My grandfather worked at the Berlin Airlift and was on the ground quickly mentally calculating how much weight each airplane could hold. The constant sound of planes taking off ruined his hearing but he always was proud of his work there.
Im American. We're an quarrelsome bunch. We argue with one another...we did this thing right...well we this this thing and it was horrible and vile...but..ive found one example that affords just about universal approval and that event is the Berlin airlift. Very few have anything negative to say about that one. It was a proud episode. We did good.

The greatest generation didn't have a choice. If they hadn't dropped bombs? if they hadn't pulled the trigger? If they hadn't stood up to the dictates of the Lord and preserved righteousness against so much evil? There would not be an acre of land on this planet that would be free! If you count up all the food and medicine and tools and manpower and all aid from free governments and religious organizations to "clothe and feed the hungry and naked" The war machine is far less costly comparatively in all accounts other than lives!
I am very proud to call Gail halvorsen a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which is the religion that I belong to and how amazing this man really is.
At the same moment, the Americans were intentionally starving the Germans in their occupation zone, even preventing the Red Cross from bringing food packages to those who desperately needed them. Please google: Famine in Germany by Walter Langer, a speech in Congress by North Dakota governor.
I've heard this story my whole life. My grandfather was a child in Berlin who remembered fondly the chocolate drops.
Very cool.

The candy part was, I’m pretty sure they were already planning on doing the sustenance part.
Mr. Halvorsen died just recently, living to be over 100 years old.

Imagine if the US spent as much money on dropping food and medicine, as they do on dropping bombs and troops.
If you would add iPhones, String Cheese, Lego sets, La-Z-Boy's and Omaha Steaks, you would have 100 year's of world peace
The greatest generation didn't have a choice.

IF YOU FOLLOW WAR STORIES YOU WOULD LIKE Stone’s War a new novel by Trevor Whately.
I firmly believe, the Allies, should have reorganized the Germans and pushed The Russians back home
I agree. But the Russians lost like 23 million in WW2 so that's why they didn't show the german people any mercy...
Stalin was not affraid. Stalin was the aggressor.
