Best interview with Pete Waterman I've heard where he talks about music composition, use of pedal, importance of melody and passion in the performance.. Thank you Richard for bringing this out.

Pete Waterman is a great music producer. I wished he produced music for me. I would make him proud and stick with him until he retired.

Love hearing the French Horn mentioned! (A little biased as an amatuer player of the instrument) Lots of other interesting things in there too.

His comment on Donna Summer was interesting. This Time I Know It’s For Real is one of the best SAW records. I wonder to what extent she wrote it?

Great interview, thanks for bringing him, please try to ask Matt Aitken and or Mike Stock on an interview because as I read Waterman didnt play a single note on any reocrd neither put a finger on a desk, he did a WONDERFUL and unique work as a manager, getting those tunes out and ready. Without him there wouldnt be SAW but the writers and producers were always Stock and Aitken. Peter reminds me of a manager I knew that phoned you up, sung the first thing that cross his mind and you have to do a whole song from a vague idea that he never recall hahaha but genious anyway, his gift is in making everyone around falling in love of an idea. Wish I had that !!

@Oscar I read that too albeit SAW aka Stock Aitken and Waterman it was really Mike Stock and Matt Aikten whom worked very hard on writing and struckuring all those songs and melody's as they were musicians even before they met Pete Waterman! The 3 of them would go into a room and shorty after Waterman would walk out and Mike and Matt would compose the track or tracks!

@@SuperMarioBrosIII The thing is Waterman drove them along and usually set a direction and provided the artists for Stock/Aitken to work with. Without Waterman I doubt there would have been the hits and having all these artists and record labels come and knock on their door. Plus Waterman provided the remix teams and other infrastructure to enable the hit process.

Super interview Richard, thanks for bringing this to us. I wonder, do you agree that melody is most important, lyric second?

See my series WHAT IS MELODY? on my channel. I think your question is maybe asking the wrong thing. A song is a work of art. A song is not melody + lyric. It is the SONG. It's like asking about your body - do you agree that your arms are more important than your legs? Thanks, an please subscribe to see more great interviews!

The parts of the song and the parts of our bodies are indeed similar. A 2000 year old quote:
"The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I don’t need you!’ And the head cannot say to the feet, ‘I don’t need you!’"
