Not true. Randle was given the most money possible for an extension. In order to get more money, he would have had to wait. The difference between Randle and Brunson is tha Randle couldn't do better on the open market so he wasn't actually leaving any money on the table. For Brunson, the extension was a sacrifice. For Randle, the extension was the best financial move.

Julius doesn't have to sign the extension exactly on Aug. 3. Julius gives us toughness, physicality, and intimidation that KAT doesn't come close to. Brunson signing for dirt cheap puts Julius in a corner to take less. If not, they will leverage that to trade him.... stay tuned.

Extending Randle guarantees the Knicks don't win a championship with Brunson. You don't win championships with high volume, high turnover, low efficiency players who don't play defense. Randle isn't elite at anything but padding his stats.

No way should they trade Julius Randle for Karl Anthony Towns. The only thing that KAT does better than Randle is shoot 3 pointers. Meanwhile Randle can do multiple things that KAT can't such as: rebound the ball at a high rate, do wizard spins in the mid-range area to get the ball in the hoop like Jalen Brunson does, finish at the rim on ally oops, finish at the rim on pick n' rolls, drive to the rim, pass at a high level and get out in transition. Randle averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds and his assists were going up as an all star player. KAT wasn't anywhere close to that.
If KAT was that good, he wouldn't be in trade rumors. Some of these teams just want Randle for peanuts which the Knicks aren't getting. We saw them do the same thing so that those other teams could get: Jamal Crawford, Zach Randolph, David Lee and Nate Robinson. The media put them down so that the Knicks would give them away cheaply to other teams for next to nothing in return. Let's not make that mistake again. If we want a center, the Knicks could use their remaining picks, Mitchell Robinson and / or the bench and get: Wendell Carter or Walker Kessler.
It's obvious that the media is trying to help Minnesota by gifting them Julius Randle so that the Timberwolves can pair him with Anthony Edwards. It's funny how the team seems to not think much of Randle while all the other teams are trying to use clever moves to steal him.
If Randall doesn’t extend his contract. Trade 3x Allstar Randall w/2 first round picks for Kessler and Markkanen. We come out ahead money wise Kessler 2.8 mil Markkanen 17.2 Mil Randall 28.2 Mil Knicks would save 8 million.

Smart organizations think ahead and not wait until last minute like what you are saying and like Clippers and lose someone for nothing. They explore all options or they already know some data.
