YES!! Hoss seed starting trays are the absolute best! I started with one 162 cell - I now have 6 of them with bottom trays. The Saran Wrap trick works like a charm, too. Very economical!

Always learn so much from you & your beautiful wife ..... Oh , I will be giving plants to loved ones , my sister n law wants to start gardening, but doesnt have the Heating mats. I really like the 162 cell design. I purchased 2 but it's unfortunately too big for my needs. I wish you all would release a scaled down version of it. Keep the cell size and design the same but maybe cut it into 3rds for us home gardeners that don't need that many cells. Just a thought. Right now I use hard plastic watering trays and cheap 6 cell standard containers. Love your company and as always.... Go Dawgs!
I got 5 of those 12ct trays from you guys this year. Just started my Bell Peppers today. I will start the tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli, etc soon. I cannot wait! Build my dream seed starting station this weekend actually. May use it to do some lettuce growing during the winter and summer as well.
i got my trays all the way from Hoss Tools, across the big pond. they're much better than other commercial trays i could get my hands on. even the local chapter of the company that makes Hoss Tools trays couldnt supply me with those same trays. not trying to suck up, as international delivery is not cheap. you'd think all commercial trays are same. they're not

It was hinted at in a previous seed starting video. my previous/other commercial trays require me to use a thin tool on all sides of cell to dislodge seedling and doesnt pull out that clean. just that more pronounced taper on the Hoss Tools tray cells makes it so much easier, that it's a big deal when dealing with dozens of seedlings.
No rocket science in the cost analysis! Last year, I bought five of the 162's and all the seeds for the season. Spent less for the trays and seeds together than I would have spent buying plants at the store, and the trays should last for many more seasons. Plus, got the varieties I wanted instead of whatever was on the store shelf. Started it all in my greenhouse, and got awesome germination and plenty of nice, healthy plants for the garden!
You guys have the best stuff around, when you use 20-20-20 on your newly sprouted seeds should you use it full strength, or should it be diluted. Take care and be well.
I'm almost too embarrassed to say this but i bought one of these today and now I'm trying to figure out how to use it properly. When do i open vents? Do i fill the tray with water at the bottom or do i just water the tray with seedlings in or both? Is my greenhouse too hot to keep the tray in? 😅 I'm not expecting you to answer me though, it's a lot of information in one comment.
Quick question, I typically plant all my seeds in 3 x 3 square planting pots and this year I ordered your 162 trey, I normally plant seeds end of December in my current setup to plant outside end of Feb in zone 9B, question is do I need to wait to plant my seeds like the end of January since I’m going to the smaller holes and not much room for root development?
I ended up with the 338 last season because that was all in stock an I also tried to get a bottom tray that was out of stock, an everything I tried to get seem to be out of stock for a while, an after repeated attempts about them I had no choice but ro get a the 338. they are well made but it also put me off on ordering, if I decide to try to ever order something from you guys again how early do orders have to be placed an how long of a back order is there?
We have the majority of our inventory in stock. Last year was a different story and did have issues as well as many other suppliers. Still having issues with transportation and getting items here. If you see it in stock, better go ahead and get it.
Greg, how about a technical discussion on the options of type of grow lights work best? There is alot of misleading info out there and it would be nice to get good info from experts.
I get confused when we talk about N-P and then there's the K!... N is for Nitrogen, which is Blood Meal, and is good for growing LEAVES, like lettuce, cabbage, spinach, kale, etc. P is for Phosphorus, which is Bone Meal, and is good for ROOTS, like carrots, beets, potatoes, radishes. etc. But K is for what, which is what, and is good for WHAT, like what?
potassium strengthens disease resistance in plants. It is important in photosynthesis, in the regulation of plants responses to light through opening and closing of stomata. Potassium is also important in the biochemical reactions in plants. Basically, potassium (K) is responsible for many other vital processes such as water and nutrient transportation, protein, and starch synthesis.

I was talking with a wholesaler at my garden center and he said many types of trays are on months long backorder.
Specifically the 50 cell, 4.5" deep trays I like to use for cuttings. Otherwise, the 162 and 338 trays are gold.

dilute it half strength for the new sprouts.

You do not need light for germination so if you have the larger cells put another bottom tray on top to keep in humidity

I would not fill the tray with water. You should water from top of tray. Leave vents closed till the plants emerge, then give the plants some air.

It really depends on the plant. Some need more space than others. Typically you would plant 6-8 weeks before date to plant outside.

Our 338 Cell Seed Starting Tray is 1 inch on all four sides of the cell while our 162 is 1 ½ inches.

I use white trash bags as humidity domes. Just be sure to take the bag off once a day. For an hour or two
