The Story of the Tulips | Planting to Harvest | One year at Maliepaard Bloembollen

- This video contains a year round compilation of the tulip cultivation at Maliepaard flowerBulbs in the south west of Holland. This company has more than 130 hectares of tulips and is one of the largest tulip growers in the Netherlands and thus of the world. It uses both the cultivation method using nets and without which requires an extensive and impressive fleet machinery. All the following activities are done in-house:
- Irrigation with 6 Irrifrance irrigation reels with boom widths from 50 to 70 meters.
- Spraying using a Challenger RoGator RG 645C self propelled sprayer with 36 meters wide spraying boom.
- Topping with two New Holland T6.160 Blue Power tractors with 3m and 1.80m wide topping machines.
- Lifting bulbs using a New Holland T7.270 with Koops net harvester and Ploeger AR-4W in combination with an Earth Eater mobile washing machine.
- Planting bulbs using a New Holland T7.270 with Koops 1.80m netplanter and a 2x 1.50 Antha van Hienen planter.
These tulips are growing for the bulbs not for the flowers. The flowers are topped so that the plant is putting all his energy into the development of the bulbs. The bulbs are harvest in the summer where after they been put in storage, in the fall the small bulbs are planted back in the field and the large ones are sold to greenhouse growers where they grown to beautiful tulips for the consumer market.

Deze video bevat een compleet jaaroverzicht van de tulpenteelt bij Maliepaard Bloembollen uit Stad aan 't Haringvliet (Z-H). Dit bedrijf is met ruim 130 hectare tulpen een van de grootste tulpen telers van Nederland en daarmee ook van de wereld. Er wordt gebruik gemaakt van zowel de teelt methode met netten als zonder wat een uitgebreid en indrukwekkend machinepark met zich mee brengt. Alle volgende werkzaamheden worden in eigen beheer uitgevoerd:

@@V4zz33 tulip flowers can be only used as fertilizer and for best only on the fields that will not have the tulips grow on them the same year. ~ 32 years of experience :)

+dav snow Brilliant?? I could have sworn that they all grew up watching episodes of "Thunderbirds" and now given half a chance to make new machines are going all out. Take Earth Eater for example, go back and watch the clip of that machine at work and travelling between fields, its like a Transformer toy the way it modifies itself and then just fits under a bridge.
+Mark Fryer Yes, I get your point - Dutch engineers grew up watching Thunderbirds, whilst English engineers played with Meccano. I believe all Canadian engineers now subscribe to Matthias Wandell's RUclips channel. Where it will all end is anybody's guess!
There is one classic episode of Thinderbirds where they are building a road through the jungle. This machine is growling along tearing up the jungle and as it passes by out from the back of the machine comes this smoking hot two lane, asphalt roadway, complete with line markings. Even at the time when I first saw it I pissed myself laughing over it.

Fascinating. I love the huge Pink Innovation. The processing area at the beginning almost looked fake; even the pavement around the buildings appeared so clean.

As per video shown... Indeed i am amaze that tulip is big business in the Netherland. Now i know that tulip are grown commercially and modern machines are use cos tulip are grown in large scale. Hope this summer i would like to visit the land of the tulips

Amazing.. we farm wheat, soybeans, sugarbeets, potatoes, corn around my area but this is incredible to see. Had no idea the manpower involved in this type of operation. Similar to potatoes but even more labor intensive during planting. Keep it up! 💯
