The question is...why are we paying all these extra bogus tolls to use the freeways that our tax dollars already paid for building them. Some people might say that it's for maintenance. Ummm, ok, but what are taxes for then???
It takes years and years to pay for this construction. It’s not a one and done thing. If you knew how infrastructure is funded then you would understand better.
I only fell for it because I had used it twice back to back by mistake. So when I did pay the first 2 I thought I had used it again for the 3rd time and accidentally put my info but didn’t but bank info
@@madero-jb5ri Excuse me, but didn't Mexico file suit against the U.S. for weapons that have found their way to Mexico? You don't think something can be done that is similar even if it's to put a huge spot light on those countries? BTW, California has close relationships with china.
I got one of the scam texts. The "63" country code in the number the text was from was a dead giveaway that it was a scam. It said it was from the OC FastTrack and I hadn't driven on any of their toll roads or FastTrack lanes.
Got the same as well this week. The rough amateur grammar ("please pay for FastTrak lane", "wish you a happy holiday") and odd web address also make it obvious. 63 (Philippines) has been the source lately for other recent scam texts too.
Omg I got that text this morning!!! And I reported it as junk! I didn’t click the link and went straight to my account and saw that I had funds in my account still.
Usually the number is obviously bogus, but can't trust Caller ID. Number shown can be easily spoofed. This goes for bank, police, etc supposedly calling. Can't trust any of it. Always log in directly (not clicking links) into one's FasTrak account. Likewise for other important accounts. Also, secure email accounts. Many overlook those. Never reuse passwords.
Ha good. Hate those things. Indian style caste system for the Highways. We are already taxed to the max, now they're trying to tax us per mile. No sympathy for anyone using them
Yep they’ve tried many times. Everyone knows it’s a scam. Fast track warned everyone already. It’s a rogue employee who’s accessing customer information
Yeah, sounds more like a phishing scam, but allegedly the scammers also 'hacked' the phone of that dude's Dad (by using his keys)... So, I guess hacking may occur, _after_ any successful phishing.
I got one of those texts and immediately deleted.. If I don't know you I delete. Mu question is, if this was announced in the summer why is it that KCAL is just now doing a story on it. It's not like it was an earthquake and you didn't know it was coming. Oh you had to spend 3 hours on a car chase. I understand. Car chases have priority over everything. Perhaps you should have a conversation with the guys that hang out at that DESK.
Yeah, using information one would prefer to keep private, as identifying information, has always been a bad idea. Most of these companies should have no business knowing anything about us at all.
I got this text. From '63' (Philippines). But aren't Californians already getting scammed for paying for an interstate freeway that was already paid through their state and federal taxes? But somehow that's not considered being scammed?
Why should we be paying to use the freeway?! It’s in its name itself. It should be free. That makes it a Payway not a freeway!! My tax dollars built that!! Smh 🤦🏽♂️
They don't go after the scammers just like they don't get up after people who commit credit card fraud because it's too expensive or at least that's what I was told by my credit card company and my bank. So as long as there's no penalty for pulling off these scams they're going to keep doing it
They are probably only doing a 'broadcast' of California area codes. So, sure, if you don't have such an account, you know it's a scam, just like the Zelle scams that ask you if you just sent money from your Bank of America account. If you don't have a B of A account, you delete it. But if you do have an account, you might press the 1, 2, or 9 button to respond according to their question. Next thing you know you're getting a phone call with someone claiming to be a worker at B of A's Fraud dept and so on. Here in NYC we have EZPASS and there have been times when folks get a text claiming to be from the NY EZPASS Customer Service dept. Even if I got one, I'd log on via my computer not via the phone. Bottom line, they are sending thousands of texts. They only have to be successful a few times to make it profitable for them.
Dont give out your personal data to anyone that ask . Even if the most trustworthy Israeli in history texted me for personal info i wouldn't give it to those people.
Only convincing for someone that is not very bright. I received the message a couple of days ago. The messages do not even identify the car's license plate. And the phone number!!!!! An international text from a California, USA entity?
I love it!!!!! Technology is a wonderful scam. Never have we had so many worldwide tech scams since the internet 👍 Keep up the good work because there's a sucker born ever minute.
First off, KCAL, these are not hackers, these are scammers. LEARN THE TERMINOLOGY. Reading the title, I would have thought HACKERS changed the signage. This is what we get with California DEI hire quotas.
I got the text yesterday with the link and thought about it for a moment and went online to see if there was anything online about a scam and there was 😂 😅
To save all innocent people Look It’s best to ignore those text messages if it’s that serious They will call you or send a letter Someone tried calling me that they are irs and they sounded legit , but me careless I didn’t give a damm and cursed them out said racist things ( for fun ) trust you will know when it’s a scammer
I need to be honest and fair about this whole article... Yeah it sucks at hackers are doing this... But at the same time in this day and age there is absolutely no excuse for a person to not see through the scam... All these agencies blatantly tell you they never contact you for information... So if you're giving up personal information because you got spooked by a text message like this then you kind of deserve what's coming your way at that point... Because you should have been smarter.
It was a scam before it was a scam !
Someone who gets it. 💯
There’s a lot of gullible and stupid people out there folks you have to realize that
That’s is absolutely true 😂
The question is...why are we paying all these extra bogus tolls to use the freeways that our tax dollars already paid for building them. Some people might say that it's for maintenance. Ummm, ok, but what are taxes for then???
The exact question I have had for years! We're getting effed as usual!
It takes years and years to pay for this construction. It’s not a one and done thing. If you knew how infrastructure is funded then you would understand better.
Yeah, that's not how it works.
Because California is too damn overcrowded already and not enough people are leaving that's why it's good to have fast track
Hmmm..maybe a big class action lawsuit brewing.
people, they will send you an official letter, not a text message
I only fell for it because I had used it twice back to back by mistake. So when I did pay the first 2 I thought I had used it again for the 3rd time and accidentally put my info but didn’t but bank info
The real scam is paying these tolls to private corporation. Particularly the 405 freeway toll.
oh shush
I got 2 of these texts this morning and I don't even live in Los Angeles. 💀
Your contact details got sold. 😅
Same
Funny how California isn't quick to pass legislation increasing penalties and sentencing for these types of crimes
Most of these hackers are from China or Russia.
They gotta catch the hackers first 🤣 and they don't want to spend the extra money/resources to "hunt" them down because CA is still in deep debt
Please Google before commenting. Yes there are. And no, CHP has no jurisdiction outside of country, state.
California is a fetching free for all. I feel sorry for people who are trapped there.
@@madero-jb5ri Excuse me, but didn't Mexico file suit against the U.S. for weapons that have found their way to Mexico? You don't think something can be done that is similar even if it's to put a huge spot light on those countries? BTW, California has close relationships with china.
*Now please report on the myriad things that make FasTrak itself a scam.*
I don’t even have a car, yet I received a text!
I got one of the scam texts. The "63" country code in the number the text was from was a dead giveaway that it was a scam. It said it was from the OC FastTrack and I hadn't driven on any of their toll roads or FastTrack lanes.

Same here
I received the same text.
USPS postal scam is from the same number
ISNT FASTRAK A SCAM IN AND OF ITSELF ?
Paying to use a PUBLIC ROAD is a Scam.
Get rid of tolls on bridges and "rich people lanes". Problem solved.
🎯yup
Bottom line, it's 2024 beef up ur common sense skills 😂
It's not "rich people lanes". it's for people who don't want to sit in traffic all day. 😅
Mean all those electric cars that get to drive in it
Let’s all tell Newsom how tolls disproportionately affect blacks and minorities. Special legislation incoming!
fastrak and all paid turnabouts etc should be illegal
So basically they’re being scammed twice.
🎯
Exactly!
FasTrak is itself a scam upon taxpayers
These are scammers not hackers
..yes they are..
WEVE BEEN PAYING AN ADDITIONAL 9/10 OF A CENT TO MAINTAIN OUR ROADWAYS FOR DECADES
THEN THEY INTRODUCED FASTRAK, HOWS THAT NOT A SCAM
They don't just want your $8 they want your information so they can take it all...
LOL, wife and a friend got this same email few days ago. Too easy to spot. I'm amazed people fall for this.
The Joys of being highly educated. You don't fall for low level stuff like this.
or being just a little street smart, so you can spot a janky finesse attempt
Hahaha but you fell for the college scam
I got one yesterday and I deleted it. Real citation comes in form of official letter mailed to you with photo of your car and driver face.
Ha good. Hate those things. Indian style caste system for the Highways. We are already taxed to the max, now they're trying to tax us per mile. No sympathy for anyone using them
Just say you're poor, bro... 🤣
Yep they’ve tried many times. Everyone knows it’s a scam.
Fast track warned everyone already. It’s a rogue employee who’s accessing customer information
the state of governor need to do something
'Hackers???'
Yeah, sounds more like a phishing scam, but allegedly the scammers also 'hacked' the phone of that dude's Dad (by using his keys)... So, I guess hacking may occur, _after_ any successful phishing.
There should be a law that all boomers should get a flip phone with no texting after a certain age. Problem solved
I don't even pay my real toll fees, so I'm safe from this scam.
The legal action should be a red flag..because metro dont do that right away
It’s happening in Northern California also,i got one of those messages but didn’t fall for it luckily
Paying a toll to use a road itself is a scam
I think we all need to just throw our fricken phones away. I
My gf got one, told her to ignore it cause it says FastTrack but it’s actually FasTrack!
I got one of those texts and immediately deleted.. If I don't know you I delete. Mu question is, if this was announced in the summer why is it that KCAL is just now doing a story on it. Those in charge of these systems have not done a good job with users' personal information.
Yeah, using information one would prefer to keep private, as identifying information, has always been a bad idea.
Most of these companies should have no business knowing anything about us at all.
The real scam is charging to drive on public roads.
Got the text this morning. Why can’t the authorities find out who these criminals are?
Wow! Who is that?? 👀🔥💥
These fast track lanes are unlawful.
They should get RID OFF
FAT TRAK RIPP TRAK
SO drivers dont get ripped 2x
Twice
😅 I just got that txt msg just a few mins ago. I just blocked and deleted to junk.
One day it said 16.95. That’s more than the bus
I got this text. From '63' (Philippines). But aren't Californians already getting scammed for paying for an interstate freeway that was already paid through their state and federal taxes? But somehow that's not considered being scammed?
Who is stupid enough to give any information just because they got a text message
BUT ISNT FASTRAK A SCAM IN AND OF ITSELF
...SO WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE ?
🎯
Fasttrak is a crime itself..
funny I got at text this morning and crazy I am watching this now.
Why should we be paying to use the freeway?! It’s in its name itself. It should be free. That makes it a Payway not a freeway!! My tax dollars built that!! Smh 🤦🏽♂️

But customer information HAS been compromised if they are targeting users of FasTrak 😂
Yeah, how would they even know who to text at what numbers, otherwise? They clearly got some level of customer info
They are probably only doing a 'broadcast' of California area codes. Maybe we should go back to landlines and human toll collectors!?
👀 at the sister..

Dont give out your personal data to anyone that ask . Even if the most trustworthy Israeli in history texted me for personal info i wouldn't give it to those people.
I got this text message…and I moved out of Ca 4 years ago. 😂😂
I got one of these bogus texts.
Gaaaaaaah damn who is that female reporter at the beginning
First off, KCAL, these are not hackers, these are scammers. LEARN THE TERMINOLOGY.
Reading the title, I would have thought HACKERS changed the signage. This is what we get with California DEI hire quotas.
Not hackers, Scammers..
Yep I don’t use it and got a text which I immediately deleted and reported junk
I got the text yesterday with the link and thought about it for a moment and went online to see if there was anything online about a scam and there was 😂 😅
