  • Before you add any manure to your garden, watch this video. Manure, the once gold standard for garden fertilizer, is no longer safe. Much of today’s manure is riddled with persistent herbicides such as Grazon. You MUST test manure before adding it to your garden. Learn from my mistake so you don’t make it yourself.

It's not just the manure that is poisoned. It is the STRAW that is poisoned too.
I have 4 bales sitting outside since last October. It STILL has not broken down and when I plant things, they either grow for a few weeks then die or not sprout at all.
The big box stores either don't know or REFUSE to tell you the source of their products.

Gosh. I’ve heard so many people with the same story. We have to be investigators now of everything we bring on our farms/gardens.

@@DI-Ry Best to grow your own straw. That way you know what you got.
I read that grazon lasts up to THREE YEARS....
Roundup can last from a few weeks to a whopping ELEVEN YEARS.
Since carrots are not broad leaf, they should grow in that straw, right?
      Heck NO they won't.
      Not even sprout.
Stuck using chemical fertilizers for the time being... And regular soil.

    Great advice
I do not trust bagged either, manure or compost !
Also bulk compost is derived from municipal yard waste , I have seen what ignorant people have put on their garden/yards

So Grazon doesn't poison monocots (grass) which includes onions, garlic, corn, and palm trees. If I was trying to pull it out of the area, I would plant a bunch of corn and burn as opposed to compost the stalks. I feel for you. Grazon is pure evil.@@DI-Ry

I have stopped altogether using manure in my garden, even amino pyralid is not very used here in Norway. I have heard that a good hot composting will break down the chemical, but with the amount you got it would be hard work getting it hot.

I live in Ocala and get free manure from my neighbor. I have been using it heavily for 8 years and my food forest is thriving. Her hay is shipped in from Idaho. I have never noticed a problem with my plants. Perhaps she gets her hay from an organic grower.
