It's cute but this space is quasi-functional because it's designed more to look pretty than to be functional. The bed is folded down 24/7 because they are using the space under the bed as storage. That white bed skirt is hiding a lot of crap underneath, one thing being a floor mattress so that when guests sleep over they pull out that matt for them to sleep on. A better option would have been for them to buy a 'chair and a half' which is like a wide armchair with a built in twin bed or maybe a loveseat sofa bed. That could replace that pink chair. I'd put that in the corner by the window. It would take up no more space than a regular chair or loveseat. If they went with the chair and a half option they could buy a chest of drawers to go under that painting that she painted for more storage. They even sell compact ottomans with fold out twin beds built in. In a small space items should serve a dual purpose A few stacked wood trunks or vintage leather suitcases for storing winter clothing, etc. instead of that poof. If they remove the crap stored under the bed, then they can fold it up and out of the way. A poof is uncomfortable to sit on for any amount of time. If Grandma comes over to visit she should have a reasonable place to sit like a small loveseat. Also the open shelves in the kitchen is wasted space. 4 glasses on each shelf? She wants everyone to see her "design" skills and that the wallpaper in the kitchen matches the paper behind the Murphy bed but...

I think a small chaise lounge sofa would be perfect in that little living room. The murphy bed was a great idea but I would store it when it's not in use. Finally, there is a bunch of dead space on the contact paper wall in the kitchen. You could utilize that wall for more storage if you add a couple more shelves.

Murphy bed is great idea for tiny space. But no storage place was designed and they have to keep everything under the bed, so murphy bed doesn't work in this case.

That's not how Murphy beds work. This apartment is probably from the 1950s or 60s. That white shelving unit is one single piece, built in with an original style Murphy bed. The shelving unit cannot be moved as it's a part of the structure/walls and is not furniture. The bed frame and mattress are all permanently attached to that built in shelving by bolts and therefore cannot be moved to the corner. Without being attached to the shelving, the bed would not stand up on its own. Therefore the Murphy bed cannot be moved.

It was a very nice design, but the placement and orientation of the bed area, especially with it down, was a little awkward. Love the Murphy Bed concept, and love that they fold away more. It felt as if the bed could have been worked onto the wall with the entry door. It overpowered the entry area. The bar/counter height in the kitchen was great but too low for the stools as the sister had to sit sideways. Very bright and clean, but here I go again...definitely needed more seating/bed options for two people sharing the space.

OK so first off, it's too white. You need color. Second, where you placed that small pink chair in the corner you could have placed a loveseat for more comfort/a pillow or two or just two comfortable designer seats. In the kitchen I would have added a beautiful piece of wallpaper over the sink as a back splash with a pop of color, and I would have even added some wooden hanging shelves since you have space for it to display blue mugs, different colored plates. You need a few plants to bring in oxygen into those stuffy New York apartments. Love the tiny bathroom and the striped pattern on the shower curtain. Very nice. Very nice job Caitlin.

except for the bed it doesn't look very welcoming. looks like it's waiting to be furnished, no living or gathering space unless you sit on the floor.

Really nicely created...The Kitchen area by the fridge is to cluttered...the cutting board and spoons or just one thing there...like you just said "Less is More"...Okay the book reading nook is so great...

Nice space, but where is the washer / dryer? Where can she hang all her clothes, jackets? No TV? It doesn't seem to me that someone really is living there.....seems more like a hotel room....

WHY would you design an entrance where you open the outside door only to trip over the bed?
It's a HAZARD -- if someone tries to break in, there you are, all ready to be knifed in your sleep.
Other than that, it's nice. WAY too white & where are "personal" things?
No books? no interests or hobbies? there is NOTHING here that speaks to "personal" - it's very nice but it's horribly bland/non-specific. No personality to speak of (that contact wallpaper? THERE's an opportunity for "personal" but you use that blue stuff?)
