Really really nice please everyone try to support these releases so that they continue Pleassssse 88 or eureka pleasseeeeee make deluxe editions of fongsaiyuk and other jet li flicks he definitely deserves it
Nice to see those video games given some coverage in the book. I actually picked up three of those back in the day, at marked-down prices because they were out of date, or old stock (or something?) I was never a gamer, and never actually played them, let alone had systems to play them on. I just thought they were cool and loved the packaging designs. I never thought they retained any collectibility, but seeing them presented in that book has me almost afraid to look them up now that I don’t own them any more. 😫😄
I entirely agree!! I’m allergic to those shit blue boxes, but can semi tolerate them if they’re covered by a slipcase. Do wish 88 used clear scanavo’s for everything though and not just their Shaw Brothers titles.
Great vid! My only minor quibble with this excellent release is that the booklet doesn’t contain any writing on the film it accompanies. It does have a lot of cool stuff in it, but I’d think they could have included at least one essay on the film itself…? Otherwise, absolutely incredible job from all involved.
That’s a good point re the booklet, I’m biased massively towards the Eastern Heroes love in the book for obvious reasons. My own minor quibble is that I wish they somehow could have made an oversized slip large enough to house operation condor in there too but I know that was always a pipe dream. It’s been my fav 88 deluxe edition since The Young Master. Kinda wish they had re-released Dragons Forever in this style instead of the Steelbook version they did. But like you say, minor quibbles indeed :)
I wish these were region free. I would love to own all of them so far I've been picking up the 4k releases and that upcoming 4k triology. Very exiciting
There are so many awesome region A US, Korean and Japanese releases, I HAD to go Region Free and would always recommend folks get a multi-region player, but that being said, the more popular 88 Films get stateside, the greater the chance that they'll re-release some of their older region locked titles as 4K or region A editions too ( Dragon's Forever being re-released is a good indicator of their US intentions I feel) Exciting times indeed though mate!
Looks like a wonderful edition. Mine is coming today, can't wait! That has got to be one of the best booklets I've seen with a release. Looking forward to your review of this set. I hope you are on the mend and have a great birthday my friend.
Very nice! I've ordered one from Diabolik DVD (I think that's how you spell it!), I'm hoping to get it by the new year, looks cool! Is it okay to admit I recently got Hong Kong Rescue's version? It'll be interesting to see how that version compares with 88 Films' version (I'm particularly interested in the audio commentary tracks).
Guys, the Kung-Fu Master Jackie Chan was a total Mortal Kombat clone, a Mortal Kombat rip-off by the Japanese Video Game publisher Kaneko. Truly bizarro game... "When Jackie Chan started the production of his then-newest film Thunderbolt in late 1994, Golden Harvest decided to film in Japan for its several racing and fight scenes. As the film crew traveled to Japan they began a search for sponsors to fund the film, and as they were searching, the video game developer Kaneko was found. While Kaneko agreed to sponsor the film, they penned a mutual deal to create a Jackie Chan-based fighting game. The deal was negotiated by Chan's longtime friend and accomplice Frankie Chan, who also co-produced the game. Due to the timing and relationship between filming Thunderbolt in Japan and signing the fighting game deal, Kaneko brought Jackie Chan and some of his actors and stuntmen of Thunderbolt such as Sam Wong and Thorsten Nickel to the offices in Tokyo in order to start the motion capture work in order to convert them into playable characters. Great info! Never played the game, but Thunderbolt ( and Twin Dragons) are the two JC movies still to get decent Bluray releases (here in the U.K anyway) that I’d most love to see 88 Films or Eureka turning their attention to. Both are seriously underrated. Thanks for the excellent game info Angelos! 🙏
@@TheFanaticalDragon The fact that in the booklet of 88Films' AOG, Thunderbolt is being mentioned, does it really mean that 88 Films is paving the way for a potential Thunderbolt release? So, is Thundebolt within the reach of 88 Films or Eureka? Ever since I had been buying Hong Kong Legends DVDs back in the 2000-2010 decade, there was always the debate of those bloody Warner Bros owned film the likes of Drunken Master II, Rumble in the Bronx, Police Story 4 First Strike and Mr. Nice Guy. And people would say that "Properly remastered DVDs for the afore-said films won't come out until the cows come home...". Well, now Warner Archive Collection has added Drunken Master II and Mr. Nice Guy with excellent image quality and proper aspect ratio. But who owns Thunderbolt? Does Media Asia owned it?
@@Tsobanian not 100% sure, the last decent DvD release of it I was aware of was Miramax owned, but given Miramax also used to have DM2, I suspect Thunderbolt ( and likely Twin Dragons) may have also ended up at Warner Bros, but that’s just pure speculation on my part, if it has then maybe a decent release will come out from Warner Archive at some stage. Japan may give us a clue. They released decent versions of DM2 and Mr Nice Guy on Bluray ages before the rest of the world ( also via Warner Bros)
