Same happened with me as the option 1 you explained ,I thought he's the one & I've went through all that hurt and all. Later , I learnt to let everything go & forgive myself for being so hard on myself. And that gave me fresh & positive outlook, like a layer have been shed . And same happened with him , but what I noticed that I'm not attracted towards him anymore. His appearance or disappearance doesn't bother me. I'm an empath , so I might have been needed to rise him from his own darkness.
