Katie Ledecky Just Can't Stop Making HISTORY

  • Katie Ledecky has had an INCREDIBLE 2025 season even by HER lofty standards, in the long course pool she not only broke her own world record in the 800 freestyle 9 years after she last set it, but she also went on to swim some of her fast times ever in the 400 and 1500. Then at the 2025 swimming world championships she came out on top in THE MOST cutthroat field of ALL TIME in the women’s 800 freestyle as she won gold over Summer McIntosh and Lani Pallister, the two fastest swimmers in history not named Katie Ledecky. Ledecky’s most recent achievement is a little less prestigious coming in the America exclusive short course yards format but it’s yet another INSANE performance out of Ledecky as she becomes the first woman to break a MASSIVE barrier while swimming in a meet named after herself.

She keeps proving why she’s not only the most impressive swimmer or athlete of all time, but one of the most impressive humans, period.

I would say that the only real question is how long is she going to keep doing this? Amazing, and nothing short of miraculous....

Her pace is frightening not many men could keep up with her over this distance. She would destroy most of them and leave them shattered by her speed

People in the competitive swimming community should demand that Ledecky PUBLICLY DENY she uses fludrocortisone to manage hers POTS with or without a TUE. Her silence on this question speaks volumes. Her saying she manages her POTS primarily through "lifestyle changes" is NOT to say she does not use fludrocortisone for the same purpose. To my knowledge Ledecky has made no public denial. That her use is a matter of medical confidentiality provides an obvious veil of secrecy. If she has a TUE, and believes in its legitimacy then why doesn't she just admit it? One might speculate that she fears it would TAINT her record. And, that would probably be right! As it SHOULD.

Do you think her 1650 record is the most untouchable SCY record? I know her sub 9 min 1000 record is also insane, so is Gretchen’s 100 FL and Dressel’s 50 FR. But there isn’t a lot of young talent in distance right now so I feel like the 1650 might be most untouchable - thoughts?

I think there are actually 2 answers to this question. If you ask, it anybody else can touch this record, then the answer is a very clear no, not anytime soon. The thing is, there is always Katie herself there and she might be able to lower it again.

Soo... 1650 yards is 1508.76 meters. Straight up translation of this time into a 1500 meter race (which I don't know if you can really do, considering there are fewer turns in a 1500 m race) would result in a time of about 14:54.4. That's almost 14 seconds faster than her current WR on that distance.

You CANNOT equate distances without considering the effect of the flip-turn. The flip-turns make the short course (25-yard pool) times MUCH faster than an equivalent distance in a long course (50 meter) pool. Thus, your distance conversion factor does not "hold water." 🙂

She better keep lowering the records now because Summers coming for them fast, the 1500 is probably safe for awhile but I can see Summer taking the 800 WR as early as this year. 🤔
