It's so frustrating to see that in a long series like this one, the Grumps use a.) one walkthrough which is badly written and don't bother to change it, or they b.) EVENTUALLY find a good walkthrough and Dan can't seem to follow the instructions in it, or he does and Arin isn't going through each area/level with him step by step. Because we all know how Arin likes to mash buttons and rush through a level without thinking anything through. Extremely frustrating to try and watch. This is especially evident in their Skyward Sword playthrough. Shows their lack of trying to understand the game and how it works, and how Arin so badly wants to use a Sonic game like this one just for the purpose of shitting all over it. Sorry for the rant but, wow. Just wow. What has happened to Game Grumps.
Jon left and Arin was free to be rigidly corporate with the channel and used it to simultaneously make an entertainment product and shit on things he thinks shouldn’t be popular by his ADD riddled standards.
It's a shame, but it is what it is. And it always will be sadly. No mater how bad the product, they'll always have millions of subscribers and hundreds of thousands of viewers. I'm kinda convinced that Game Grumps are responsible for at least one or two million uninformed opinions on Sonic games. Including that famous "Sonic was never good" guy from IGN.
In a sense, nothing has happened to them; Arin always had this mindset for games he doesn't like. The only change is the co-host, from the independently minded foil Jon to the borderline yes man Dan. That's mainly what gives Arin almost unchecked power to ignorantly shit on any game he dislikes in an infinite echo chamber of his own design. It's disgusting, in a way.
I've never seen this series as I don't watch game grumps but, did they REALLY use a walkthrough for THIS game? That is absolutely baffling to me. Tikal literally tells you where to go everytime you are in the overworld. Didn't Erin praise Megaman X for not spelling everything out for you and letting you FIGURE THINGS OUT ON YOUR OWN?!

Speaking as a life-long Sonic fan, watching Arin play this game is about as painful as he acts like playing the game is. *Listening* to him play it is about as painful as I imagine giving birth is.
My problem with it is that, if you have played this game, you can easily see he is INTENTIONALLY trying to break the game and he constantly pretends not to know what to do and where to go.

This project of Arin's is just a self fulfilling prophecy. Plays game wishing to hate it, proceeds to have a bad time playing said game, bad time reflects in commentary and demeanor. The thing that's most infuriating is when Arin dies on purpose multiple times or purposefully glitches the game by hugging walls and spamming buttons then saying "See the game sucks." He does similar shit to Sonic and the Black Knight, Majora's Mask, Skyward Sword, etc

"I have no idea what the fuck is happening" Can't get up the *physics based* slope because you're not going fast enough? "This is so awkward to control" One can argue the validity of the pop-in comments, but the rest of the stuff is typical game shit that Arin twists into a negative light because he doesn't like Sonic. It's incredibly frustrating.
When Arin plays games he doesn't like it reminds me of how I would play games as a very small child that didn't know how anything works in games. I feel as though that means something but I genuinely don't know at this point.
Oh they tried. They tried to defend Arin being mad at stuff like the emeralds being inside enemies, but it's shit defense since both Knuckles' instructions (which Arin skipped saying "Don't need 'em!") and Tikal will say they can be inside enemies, and Arin's anger is misplaced since the game never says they _can't_ be inside enemies. He was getting mad at a completely legitimate gameplay element that was introducing itself to him, acting as if the game had betrayed him by changing up the rules, when it was *establishing* the rules to him. It's like he didn't even watch his own Sequelitis. It would be the same as if in Dark Souls he was like "Some chests can eat me!? The game never said that! Fuck you game!".

I'm glad that someone was able to make a tihydp out of this. I know that Arin hates Sonic games and everybody has the right to their opinion, but this was one of the most pretentious let's plays he's ever done. It sometimes makes me think that Arin just enjoys the gaming staples like Mario, zelda, Mega Man, and likes to bash any niche series he didn't grow up with like a boomer. I also got the same impression from him playing Spongebob: Battle For Bikini Bottom.

This is like the anti-thesis to the Runaway Guys' LP of the game. Both focused on showing as many glitches possible to show how the game has aged, but while one party used it as an excuse to whine and bitch about it more, the other took it in stride because of how hilariously bizarre it caused the game to get and it only made it more enjoyable to them. They actually focused on *gasp* having FUN with the game, and why unlike GG, even episodes where zero progress was being made in the game, it was still entertaining.
They don't bash it though do they? I haven't seen their playthrough, and I really can't picture Chuggaa bashing a game for views. He normally goes against the crowd and enjoys the more underrated/overhated stuff.
@@wanderingshadow1372 I haven’t watched it in awhile, but there’s a few points where they get stuck or frustrated, I think there was one level in particular that either Chuggaa or Jon died repeatedly, but it never came off as overly mean or like they were miserable. They made fun of the dated graphics and glitches but it was clear that they were having fun, which is what matters. I honestly cannot stand let’s plays where the person playing the game is just constantly being negative
This was back when I thought Arin's rage was for pure 'comedy'... Now I realize he's just another hypocrisy embodying specimen, with piss poor sense of judgement and most questionable logic. He genuinely believes he's making good critical points here. Arin raging at the Froggy stages isn't funny in the slightest anymore. That's how bad this playthrough has aged, IMO. EDIT: I was never an avid follower of the Grumps. I didn't watch them that often because I usually steer away from LPs of games I haven't played myself. Maybe if I did watch them on a regular basis, I would've caught on to Arin's toxicity a lot earlier.

Everytme I hear Arin or Dan saying that Sonic Boom was better it makes me churn my stomach. This is unfair to compare a broken port of a game versus a game that is already broken. Hell, I beaten the broken port back in the day and only met a few bugs and glitches while Arin tries to find them all to prove that this game sucks.
I played the PC version this year for the first time, had zero issues, and loved everything about it except Bigs part which was the only bad part of it. Saying Sonic Boom is better than this causing me to hear the Serious Sam scream.
I Beat this game when I was like 6 or 7. Meanwhile, Arin "I do gaming for a living" hanson can't beat Chaos 0. He is truly, without a doubt, BAD at video games.
I wasn't around for the jon era of game grumps, but seeing the beginning of this makes me think I missed some really good parts. I like how jon actively defends SA 1 and 2 instead of just nodding and being like, "Oh, is that right?" or just jumping on the hate train with arin because it's "cool" to hate sonic. And don't get me wrong, I know these two games have issues, but they're not a buggy, almost unplayable mess.
Jon disagreed with Arin a lot more, Dan is a fun guy but he rarely calls Arin out or firmy disagree with him (probably because he isn't a videogame guy so it's rare for him to have a strong opinion on games) This LP would have been hilarious with Jon now that I think about it, cause even as someone that doesn't like SA1&2 Arin really needed someone to point out how ridiculous some of the shit he was doing or saying was

pretty late reply but honestly i tried watching game grumps multiple times because they were so beloved and completely checked out when i looked at their playthrough of wind waker and at the final part (the one i clicked on first) they're just making fart noises because lol wind. the silent hill shattered memories is also very hard to watch. like, this is just crap, i have no idea how people can tolerate this
i remember getting the game in a steam bundle, yes the objectively worst version, and booting it up with the intention of "laughing at how bad at is." dude, this game completely fucking changed my perception on video games, made me a sonic fan, and became one of my favorite games of all time. id even go so far as to say it helped me find some identity, those cheesy ass rock songs for the character themes are my jams. not saying everyone has to love this shit, but i cant believe how much garbage nonsense they spewed out that i just believed for no reason.

Game Grumps: Put out hours upon hours of episodes slowly trudging through the game, purposely making the game look bad, having zero brain function, and cause harm to their fans and a guy who made a walkthrough as a kid. Oneyplays: Put out a few hours of episodes edited down to avoid getting stale, spend the whole time trying to make each other laugh, and decide to stop playing when they get tired and move on instead of forcing out an extra 40 episodes.

Oh my gosh guys, I finally get it. After all these years I finally get what you all went through during this series. I just played Sonic Adventure DX this year and I absolutely LOVE this game! Sure there were some spots that were a little rough but honestly it was a super enjoyable game, and this is coming from someone who doesn’t play games often for fear of getting stuck or lost. It’s a very easily manageable Sonic game that has a bunch of great music, cool moments, and surprisingly tight controls! I almost want to say it’s my favorite! So to have this absolute moron shit all over this game, for stuff that is either CLEARLY HIS FAULT or irrelevant, and convince his friend who wouldn’t be able to get his own opinion in edgewise because he can’t play the game AND ON TOP OF THAT have Sonic team praise him for it, it’s infuriating. This is the same man who called someone out on twitter for making fun of storytime animators, oh but Sonic fans who genuinely love and have a passion for a 20 year old game, now that’s fair game! I’ll admit, I used to laugh at shit like this because I didn’t know what I was missing but now, holy shit, I almost can’t even finish this. I’m sorry...I’m just so sorry.
I really hated when he shat on Sr Pelo as if he was better. Pelo's video was light-hearted and silly. Man after I finished this video I thought about why Arin hates this game so much. (It's a theory but) Maybe he hates Sonic Adventure because it reminds him of Jon and he knows he loves it. So all those mental health jokes were probably targeted at him. If he actually went out and admitted he liked certain parts and aspects he might feel like he's agreeing with Jon. Even when Jon was on the show he really went out his way to disagree with him. It clearly isn't just the fans making him hate these games it's his also his perspective on these fans. Like when he bashes on a game it feels vindictive rather than him genuinely disliking the game. He really goes out of his way to play a certain style and to say such mean comments not only about the game but the fans of it as well. Probably not from Jon but the vindictiveness is certainly a fact. Even when other LPers play game they don’t like, they act fair towards the game and only shit on the game. The Best Friend Zaibatsu with David Cage games, Adum Plaze with Life is Strange, etc. Arin meanwhile shits on the game, it’s fans, and it’s community in a way that implies he wants to influence the viewers into agreeing with him and shitting on the game and it’s fans.

I doubt it's related to Jon at all. Arin was shitting on Sonic Adventure when Jontron was still on the show. Arin has this approach to certain games that causes him to suck at them, and instead of doing any self-reflection, he just blames the game. But then he sees other people praising the game, and hates that, so he puts a bunch of energy into lying to his audience about the game, because he wants everyone else to hate it as much as he does. There were so many points in the Sonic Adventure playthrough where he HAD to be failing on purpose (so many automatic gameplay press-forward-to-succeed sections had him doing things other than that). Don't forget about the time he tried to gaslight his audience about the OoT water temple, claiming it was "so easy", and proceeded to use a walkthrough for the entire thing and tried to hide the fact that he used a walkthrough. Shoutouts to Dan for publicly foiling that plan.
@@Mariodash23 Another thing I should bring up, the classic Sonic 06 LP done by Pokecapn and friends. By the end of the game, they were actually pretty fair and tried their best to determine who was actually to blame for the bad quality, who did a good job and shouldn't get yelled at for the game being bad, and who likely did the best that they could. And all of this was fresh after suffering through the Final Story too.
I'll go ahead and say it, I never had any problems with the movement quirks in 3D Sonic games because from DX to Ow the Edge, they ALL HAD THEM. Part of getting good at these games is figuring out what types of movements will lead to stupid/cheap deaths and learning not to make those movements. Once you figure that out it's actually so easy to avoid glitch deaths it's not even something you do consciously.

So I came to this video and I have to say I wasn't disappointed with this, This is how you don't play. I'll be perfectly honest here I have been to the others and I love those two, because it shows a really clear picture of how Arin acts about certain video games that are popular. Whether they be Zelda, Sonic, or Mario games, he finds a way somehow to screw it up and blames the game like a child and says how bad the whole game is and how you should feel bad for liking the game. Its immature and disrespectful to not only to your fans to act like that, but to the people that is your fanbase that actually like these games, especially Sonic and Zelda. I know I shouldn't shove my opinions down people's throat, but for god sake's at least try to respect people's like for the game and not berate people for liking the just because you don't like it. For someone who loved this game as a kid, watching this gave me such a headache. Although, for someone who grew up with adhd, i would often get lost, HOWEVER, I wouldn’t get frustrated like arin did.
I struggled a little in the hubs, and it took me a while to pick up on the Big segments. Replaying the game a couple months ago, I found it really enjoyable with the previous knowledge I had. Yes, it’s cryptic at times, but if you explore the not very large hubs then it’s pretty easy most of the time.
I've played the Gamecube port way more than the original (my Dreamcast broke early), and by "played it", I mean I've beaten it over 100 times, doing all kinds of crazy tricks to skip chunks of the stage and using momentum tricks to go everywhere and play fast and recklessly. Never encountered these bugs myself. I knew the game had some spots to watch out for, but the ones Arin was showing required me to play very counterintuitive to how you would normally play the game in order to trigger them.
I also mostly play the DX version currently (I own the Dreamcast version, and that was my go-to way to play it before I got DX, but I just prefer playing DX for some reason), and I seldom encounter a bug when I'm not looking for one; this goes for either version, as the only things I know of that are buggier in DX are the walls, many of which can be gone through, but even then you aren't likely to go through them if you aren't trying, save for that shuttle loop glitch in Emerald Coast, but that only occours if you do something that would make Sonic stop going forward, and not only is that a problem in the Dreamcast version, but it’s very easy to avoid in either version. Point is, in my experience, whether it's the original or DX, this game is not that glitchy under normal play.

Isn't it funny how when Arin bashes a game that honestly doesn't deserve it (Sonic Adventure), everyone is so quick to jump on that hatred bandwagon and claim this game is somehow worse than the worst of Sonic? Yet when Arin says he doesn't like Super Mario 64 for arguably the same reasons, everyone is like "Ohhh welll.....Shucks...That's just what he thinks! The game is a 3D masterpiece!"
Honestly, it's annoying cause it feels like it's just an excuse to use the series as a punching bag, and some of these people haven't even given the game a try themselves, so it's basically an uninformed opinion.
My favorite part of Game Grumps is when both Arin and Dan constantly talk over cutscenes making jokes that are really not that funny and then question what the hell is going on and are confused afterwards. *Same applies when they look at tutorial stuff, skip it, then not know what they're doing*

Even though I'm almost 2 years late to this, I recently realized just how toxic the Game Grumps are to the entire Sonic series, fandom, games, everything. Video games are probably the first artistic medium out there in which you have to have a certain level of skill in order to actually form a respectable opinion. I'm not sure if this even boils down to skill, though, every clip I've seen of them playing SA 1/2 and Heroes is just Arin blaming everyone but himself for everything.
These examples feel like the epitome of reason why Dan doesn’t go well with Arin, game wise. My own take is that Arin gives all the wrong points on games, with Dan, imo, have to follow along with Arin’s opinions because he’s his friend. It’s cringy to see Arin throw so much out the window, not thinking twice about literally ANYTHING, and takes everything as time gives them, living in the moment, no, the SECOND. Honestly, Dan could go off better, in terms of games, over someone with hypocrisy as loud and ignorant as this one. I don’t hate Arin, I pity him. Nothing can ever make me recover from what his mouth spews. A pattern grown overused.

I used to try and cut them some slack because i struggled a lot like they did when i first played Sonic Adventure. But i recently had the realization that i was 4 when i first played it. The reason i struggled so much was because i couldn't read or fully comprehend what i was being told. And these grown men somehow struggled MORE than a literal 4 year old that didn't have any guidance or walkthrough Like, i get that it's hard to focus on a game while trying to be entertaining, especially since they do little to no cuts in their playthrough's. Arin's problem with every game ever is that he *always* makes it out to be that the fanbase is a bunch of rabid people who will attack others. It always impresses me when I see full grown adults who use video games as a vehicle to be relevant are not only awful at playing video games but can't even hold their attention at the game enough to know where to go. The game is so generous with hints or even straight up showing you what you need to do in such a small hub world that you'd think you'd never need a walkthrough just to find objectives that are a few steps away that even the literal 8 year olds that played this game when it first came out could find on their own. It's a bit anecdotal of me to say but I'm pretty sure people have been playing and beating Sonic Adventure before everyone had easy access to the internet. Probably helps that most of people and especially young children that play video games want to actually beat the game they got with their allowance or as a gift instead of making unfunny pee-pee poo-poo jokes or ribbing on the game being played mercilessly in an incessant manner with whaky voices as 'commentary' while having no clue what to do next. And hey, if it seems like I'm being overly petty or mocking about how Arin handled this playthrough, it's okay. I'm just exaggerating to be funny. You had a happy fun time reading this, right? Yeah? Good! Now I can continue to say whatever I want and feel so validated for it with only slight pushback now. :) ~
His unrelenting negativity towards this game is so obnoxious. It’s like he actively ignores the fact that this game is pretty old and of course was a relic of its time. I have never played this game before but even despite the glitches, story, and goofy animations, I think it looks really fun and charming and kind of want to play it now. And I’ve never been a Sonic fan. I’m totally on Dan’s side here.
I've played it since shortly after Adventure 2 came out for the Dreamcast, and have been playing it on Gamecube and X Box 360 from time to time since. It's a very easy game. You can do all kinds of momentum tricks with the spin dash and even with other characters, and use it to reach crazy places or skip chunks of a level. You can play very recklessly and still not come across these bugs/glitches because they require you to play VERY particularly to trigger them (such as rubbing up against walls like Arin was doing, or not continuing to simply hold Forward while going through loops). It's so incredibly hard to trigger these glitches that, in my 100+ times playing this game, I didn't even know about a lot of these because they never happened to me while playing normally or while being reckless. Sonic also controls REALLY tight. He can stop/turn on a dime, so you have full control over yourself and don't feel slippery. When Arin kept dying during the platforming sections of Final Egg, I knew he was doing it on purpose, because you can do a low fast homing attack onto those platforms and have Sonic stop IMMEDIATELY where he lands on the platform by just tapping the stick in the opposite direction as he lands. And while the game doesn't blatantly hold your hand, it has those hint orbs that will hold your hand if you want, so there's never a reason to not know where to go. The DX version is a bit less stable than the Dreamcast version, but you shouldn't have much trouble still. If you have a PS3 or X Box 360, you can still get a hold of this game for pretty cheap. Unlike with Sonic Heroes and onward, I never once felt like I was walking on egg shells with the mechanics/controls of this game or Adventure 2. I was always in complete control. It didn't feel slippery.

It obviously isn’t the same tho, because with Sonic ‘06 the game was poorly made and rushed onto more current hardware. With this the game was made with love and care and was made on older hardware sure, but still is pretty fun.

The weird thing is, when Arin played through 06, he was ACTUALLY HAVING FUN with it. Now, his frustration and hatred towards the series feels on purpose. Even when watching the first episode of mania, critically the best sonic game in years, you can still feel the hatred towards the series being forced despite the fact that he’s most likely having fun. If he has any minor inconvenience in a sonic game, it’s bad design. But if another franchise does it, he just blames himself for the mistake.
it’s just so frustrating how unfair arin is to this game (and a lot of other older games they play of this same ilk) by refusing to accept the context of its release. this game was released as the first true 3D sonic experience, at a time when 3D games were still getting their proper footing. not many devs knew how to make a game work in 3D, especially when it came to things like mapping controls to accommodate for quickly changing camera angles and the camera itself. when you think about it like that, it’s so much easier to appreciate this game for what it did at the time. it’s not as great as mario 64 or OoT, but it still is a fun and functional game, despite some jank due to aforementioned factors

Yeah, this is a textbook example of why the Game Grumps are a terrible Let's Play company. If you want a good Sonic Adventure playthrough, there's no better man than TearOfGrace. Plays it all the way through, treats it fairly, and he clearly and concisely explains the criticisms he has. Plus, his playthrough's only fourteen episodes, so you can tell he wasn't trying to milk the game dry like these bastards were.
This game didn't exactly age well compared to other classics that had already existed at the time like Mario 64 or Diablo, but they really do a good job of making it look bad.

It's so frustrating to see that in a long series like this one, the Grumps use a.) one walkthrough which is badly written and don't bother to change it, or they b.) EVENTUALLY find a good walkthrough and Dan can't seem to follow the instructions in it, or he does and Arin isn't going through each area/level with him step by step. Because we all know how Arin likes to mash buttons and rush through a level without thinking anything through.
Extremely frustrating to try and watch. This is especially evident in their Skyward Sword playthrough. Oh they tried. They tried to defend Arin being mad at stuff like the emeralds being inside enemies, but it's shit defense since both Knuckles' instructions (which Arin skipped saying "Don't need 'em!") and Tikal will say they can be inside enemies, and Arin's anger is misplaced since the game never says they _can't_ be inside enemies. He was getting mad at a completely legitimate gameplay element that was introducing itself to him, acting as if the game had betrayed him by changing up the rules, when it was *establishing* the rules to him.
It's like he didn't even watch his own Sequelitis. It would be the same as if in Dark Souls he was like "Some chests can eat me!? The game never said that! Fuck you game!".

This is like the anti-thesis to the Runaway Guys' LP of the game. Both focused on showing as many glitches possible to show how the game has aged, but while one party used it as an excuse to whine and bitch about it more, the other took it in stride because of how hilariously bizarre it caused the game to get and it only made it more enjoyable to them. They actually focused on *gasp* having FUN with the game, and why unlike GG, even episodes where zero progress was being made in the game, it was still entertaining.
They made Big the Cat one of the best parts of the playthrough.

They don't bash it though do they? I haven't seen their playthrough, and I really can't picture Chuggaa bashing a game for views. He normally goes against the crowd and enjoys the more underrated/overhated stuff.
@@wanderingshadow1372 I haven’t watched it in awhile, but there’s a few points where they get stuck or frustrated, I think there was one level in particular that either Chuggaa or Jon died repeatedly, but it never came off as overly mean or like they were miserable. They made fun of the dated graphics and glitches but it was clear that they were having fun, which is what matters. I honestly cannot stand let’s plays where the person playing the game is just constantly being negative
I remember my dad hated this game, but he still did a better job than Arin and Dan here.
This was back when I thought Arin's rage was for pure 'comedy'... Now I realize he's just another hypocrisy embodying specimen, with piss poor sense of judgement and most questionable logic. He genuinely believes he's making good critical points here. Arin raging at the Froggy stages isn't funny in the slightest anymore. That's how bad this playthrough has aged, IMO.
EDIT: I was never an avid follower of the Grumps. I didn't watch them that often because I usually steer away from LPs of games I haven't played myself. Maybe if I did watch them on a regular basis, I would've caught on to Arin's toxicity a lot earlier.
I don't watch Grumps hardly at all. Yet I was made aware of Arin's Sequelitis on Ocarina of Time and...well... Its so clear he is a 16-bit hipster. Anything 3D is considered shit to him.

Like, maybe he would take his 'critical' points into consideration during his Grumps LP of OoT? When I first watched the OoT LP, I wasn't able to draw my own conclusion of Arin's view of the game at that point. I was at such a loss, so I just let it be and moved on. Then... came MM, SS and even TP. This caused me to do some more research on Arin's activity and behavior, and... He has most definitely taken a turn for the worse 5 years later since Zelda Sequelitis. The TIHYDPs really put things into perspective for me in a memory refreshing manner, too.

This is unfair to compare a broken port of a game versus a game that is already broken.
Hell, I beaten the broken port back in the day and only met a few bugs and glitches while Arin tries to find them all to prove that this game sucks.
I played the PC version this year for the first time, had zero issues, and loved everything about it except Bigs part which was the only bad part of it.

I wasn't around for the jon era of game grumps, but seeing the beginning of this makes me think I missed some really good parts. I like how jon actively defends SA 1 and 2 instead of just nodding and being like, "Oh, is that right?" or just jumping on the hate train with arin because it's "cool" to hate sonic. And don't get me wrong, I know these two games have issues, but they're not a buggy, almost unplayable mess.

i remember getting the game in a steam bundle, yes the objectively worst version, and booting it up with the intention of "laughing at how bad at is." dude, this game completely fucking changed my perception on video games, made me a sonic fan, and became one of my favorite games of all time. id even go so far as to say it helped me find some identity, those cheesy ass rock songs for the character themes are my jams. not saying everyone has to love this shit, but i cant believe how much garbage nonsense they spewed out that i just believed for no reason.

Something I never really noticed until now: do the Grumps search for walkthroughs in order of worst to best and choose the top option? It seems like that's what they do. I'm now tempted to make a walkthrough for SA2 where I describe every level and action 100% wrong. With any luck they'd use it and never figure it out.

Oh my gosh guys, I finally get it. After all these years I finally get what you all went through during this series. I just played Sonic Adventure DX this year and I absolutely LOVE this game! Sure there were some spots that were a little rough but honestly it was a super enjoyable game, and this is coming from someone who doesn’t play games often for fear of getting stuck or lost. It’s a very easily manageable Sonic game that has a bunch of great music, cool moments, and surprisingly tight controls! I almost want to say it’s my favorite! So to have this absolute moron shit all over this game, for stuff that is either CLEARLY HIS FAULT or irrelevant, and convince his friend who wouldn’t be able to get his own opinion in edgewise because he can’t play the game AND ON TOP OF THAT have Sonic team praise him for it, it’s infuriating. This is the same man who called someone out on twitter for making fun of storytime animators, oh but Sonic fans who genuinely love and have a passion for a 20 year old game, now that’s fair game! I’ll admit, I used to laugh at shit like this because I didn’t know what I was missing but now, holy shit, I almost can’t even finish this. I’m sorry...I’m just so sorry.

I really hated when he shat on Sr Pelo as if he was better. Pelo's video was light-hearted and silly. Man after I finished this video I thought about why Arin hates this game so much. (It's a theory but) Maybe he hates Sonic Adventure because it reminds him of Jon and he knows he loves it. So all those mental health jokes were probably targeted at him. If he actually went out and admitted he liked certain parts and aspects he might feel like he's agreeing with Jon. Even when Jon was on the show he really went out his way to disagree with him. It clearly isn't just the fans making him hate these games it's his also his perspective on these fans. Like when he bashes on a game it feels vindictive rather than him genuinely disliking the game. He really goes out of his way to play a certain style and to say such mean comments not only about the game but the fans of it as well. So I think Arin has some unresolved issues manifesting through his perspective on video games probably because it stems from someone else who also likes video games. Jon.

I doubt it's related to Jon at all. Arin was shitting on Sonic Adventure when Jontron was still on the show. Arin has this approach to certain games that causes him to suck at them, and instead of doing any self-reflection, he just blames the game. But then he sees other people praising the game, and hates that, so he puts a bunch of energy into lying to his audience about the game, because he wants everyone else to hate it as much as he does. There were so many points in the Sonic Adventure playthrough where he HAD to be failing on purpose (so many automatic gameplay press-forward-to-succeed sections had him doing things other than that). Don't forget about the time he tried to gaslight his audience about the OoT water temple, claiming it was "so easy", and proceeded to use a walkthrough for the entire thing and tried to hide the fact that he used a walkthrough. Shoutouts to Dan for publicly foiling that plan.
@@Mariodash23 Another thing I should bring up, the classic Sonic 06 LP done by Pokecapn and friends. By the end of the game, they were actually pretty fair and tried their best to determine who was actually to blame for the bad quality, who did a good job and shouldn't get yelled at for the game being bad, and who likely did the best that they could. And all of this was fresh after suffering through the Final Story too.

I'll go ahead and say it, I never had any problems with the movement quirks in 3D Sonic games because from DX to Ow the Edge, they ALL HAD THEM. Part of getting good at these games is figuring out what types of movements will lead to stupid/cheap deaths and learning not to make those movements. Once you figure that out it's actually so easy to avoid glitch deaths it's not even something you do consciously.

I'll be perfectly honest here I have been to the others and I love those two, because it shows a really clear picture of how Arin acts about certain video games that are popular.
Whether they be Zelda, Sonic, or Mario games, he finds a way somehow to screw it up and blames the game like a child and says how bad the whole game is and how you should feel bad for liking the game. Its immature and disrespectful to not only to your fans to act like that, but to the people that is your fanbase that actually like these games, especially Sonic and Zelda.
I know I shouldn't shove my opinions down people's throat, but for god sake's at least try to respect people's like for the game and not berate people for liking the just because you don't like it.

this is the problem i have with most youtubers.
For someone who loved this game as a kid, watching this gave me such a headache. Although, for someone who grew up with adhd, i would often get lost, HOWEVER, I wouldn’t get frustrated like arin did.
I struggled a little in the hubs, and it took me a while to pick up on the Big segments.
Replaying the game a couple months ago, I found it really enjoyable with the previous knowledge I had.
Yes, it’s cryptic at times, but if you explore the not very large hubs then it’s pretty easy most of the time.

It’s the GameCube port, at 1:38:32 it shows GameCube controller buttons. You must’ve just gotten lucky I suppose.
I've played the Gamecube port way more than the original (my Dreamcast broke early), and by "played it", I mean I've beaten it over 100 times, doing all kinds of crazy tricks to skip chunks of the stage and using momentum tricks to go everywhere and play fast and recklessly.
Never encountered these bugs myself. I knew the game had some spots to watch out for, but the ones Arin was showing required me to play very counterintuitive to how you would normally play the game in order to trigger them.
I also mostly play the DX version currently (I own the Dreamcast version, and that was my go-to way to play it before I got DX, but I just prefer playing DX for some reason), and I seldom encounter a bug when I'm not looking for one; this goes for either version, as the only things I know of that are buggier in DX are the walls, many of which can be gone through, but even then you aren't likely to go through them if you aren't trying, save for that shuttle loop glitch in Emerald Coast, but that only occours if you do something that would make Sonic stop going forward, and not only is that a problem in the Dreamcast version, but it’s very easy to avoid in either version. Point is, in my experience, whether it's the original or DX, this game is not that glitchy under normal play.

Isn't it funny how when Arin bashes a game that honestly doesn't deserve it (Sonic Adventure), everyone is so quick to jump on that hatred bandwagon and claim this game is somehow worse than the worst of Sonic? Yet when Arin says he doesn't like Super Mario 64 for arguably the same reasons, everyone is like "Ohhh welll.....Shucks...That's just what he thinks! The game is a 3D masterpiece!"

Even though I'm almost 2 years late to this, I recently realized just how toxic the Game Grumps are to the entire Sonic series, fandom, games, everything.
Video games are probably the first artistic medium out there in which you have to have a certain level of skill in order to actually form a respectable opinion. I'm not sure if this even boils down to skill, though, every clip I've seen of them playing SA 1/2 and Heroes is just Arin blaming everyone but himself for everything.
These examples feel like the epitome of reason why Dan doesn’t go well with Arin, game wise. My own take is that Arin gives all the wrong points on games, with Dan, imo, have to follow along with Arin’s opinions because he’s his friend.
It’s cringy to see Arin throw so much out the window, not thinking twice about literally ANYTHING, and takes everything as time gives them, living in the moment, no, the SECOND.
Honestly, Dan could go off better, in terms of games, over someone with hypocrisy as loud and ignorant as this one. I don’t hate Arin, I pity him. Nothing can ever make me recover from what his mouth spews. A pattern grown overused.

I used to try and cut them some slack because i struggled a lot like they did when i first played Sonic Adventure. But i recently had the realization that i was 4 when i first played it. The reason i struggled so much was because i couldn't read or fully comprehend what i was being told. And these grown men somehow struggled MORE than a literal 4 year old that didn't have any guidance or walkthrough
Like, i get that it's hard to focus on a game while trying to be entertaining, especially since they do little to no cuts in their playthrough's. But come on man...

Arin's problem with every game ever is that he *always* makes it out to be that the fanbase is a bunch of rabid people who will attack others. When in reality, it's him purposely doing poorly to bitch and moan about "This game sucks!" and when people say "Actually, that's your fault" he then takes it to the other extreme. He's such a toxic shitheel that no wonder Jon left him
It always impresses me when I see full grown adults who use video games as a vehicle to be relevant are not only awful at playing video games but can't even hold their attention at the game enough to know where to go. The game is so generous with hints or even straight up showing you what you need to do in such a small hub world that you'd think you'd never need a walkthrough just to find objectives that are a few steps away that even the literal 8 year olds that played this game when it first came out could find on their own. It's a bit anecdotal of me to say but I'm pretty sure people have been playing and beating Sonic Adventure before everyone had easy access to the internet. Probably helps that most of people and especially young children that play video games want to actually beat the game they got with their allowance or as a gift instead of making unfunny pee-pee poo-poo jokes or ribbing on the game being played mercilessly in an incessant manner with whaky voices as 'commentary' while having no clue what to do next.
And hey, if it seems like I'm being overly petty or mocking about how Arin handled this playthrough, it's okay. I'm just exaggerating to be funny. You had a happy fun time reading this, right? Yeah? Good! Now I can continue to say whatever I want and feel so validated for it with only slight pushback now. :) ~
His unrelenting negativity towards this game is so obnoxious. It’s like he actively ignores the fact that this game is pretty old and of course was a relic of its time. I have never played this game before but even despite the glitches, story, and goofy animations, I think it looks really fun and charming and kind of want to play it now. And I’ve never been a Sonic fan. I’m totally on Dan’s side here.
I've played it since shortly after Adventure 2 came out for the Dreamcast, and have been playing it on Gamecube and X Box 360 from time to time since. It's a very easy game. You can do all kinds of momentum tricks with the spin dash and even with other characters, and use it to reach crazy places or skip chunks of a level. You can play very recklessly and still not come across these bugs/glitches because they require you to play VERY particularly to trigger them (such as rubbing up against walls like Arin was doing, or not continuing to simply hold Forward while going through loops).
It's so incredibly hard to trigger these glitches that, in my 100+ times playing this game, I didn't even know about a lot of these because they never happened to me while playing normally or while being reckless. Sonic also controls REALLY tight. He can stop/turn on a dime, so you have full control over yourself and don't feel slippery. When Arin kept dying during the platforming sections of Final Egg, I knew he was doing it on purpose, because you can do a low fast homing attack onto those platforms and have Sonic stop IMMEDIATELY where he lands on the platform by just tapping the stick in the opposite direction as he lands.
And while the game doesn't blatantly hold your hand, it has those hint orbs that will hold your hand if you want, so there's never a reason to not know where to go. The DX version is a bit less stable than the Dreamcast version, but you shouldn't have much trouble still. If you have a PS3 or X Box 360, you can still get a hold of this game for pretty cheap. Unlike with Sonic Heroes and onward, I never once felt like I was walking on egg shells with the mechanics/controls of this game or Adventure 2. I was always in complete control. It didn't feel slippery.

I think Arin is still trying to recreate the magic of the Sonic ‘06 playthrough with JonTron and trying to recreate those wacky glitches that made everyone die laughing in that run. It obviously isn’t the same tho, because with Sonic ‘06 the game was poorly made and rushed onto more current hardware. With this the game was made with love and care and was made on older hardware sure, but still is pretty fun.

The weird thing is, when Arin played through 06, he was ACTUALLY HAVING FUN with it. Now, his frustration and hatred towards the series feels on purpose. Even when watching the first episode of mania, critically the best sonic game in years, you can still feel the hatred towards the series being forced despite the fact that he’s most likely having fun. If he has any minor inconvenience in a sonic game, it’s bad design. But if another franchise does it, he just blames himself for the mistake.

it’s just so frustrating how unfair arin is to this game (and a lot of other older games they play of this same ilk) by refusing to accept the context of its release. this game was released as the first true 3D sonic experience, at a time when 3D games were still getting their proper footing. not many devs knew how to make a game work in 3D, especially when it came to things like mapping controls to accommodate for quickly changing camera angles and the camera itself. when you think about it like that, it’s so much easier to appreciate this game for what it did at the time. it’s not as great as mario 64 or OoT, but it still is a fun and functional game, despite some jank due to aforementioned factors

All jokes aside, I'm finding myself siding with these compilations more, showcasing how much Arin just deliberately shames games for his own stupidity. I've barely been watching them for the last couple years. The last series I can remember being invested in was their DDLC series, but that was just because of Dan bein' a lil' fraidy bitch from the crazy shit the game pulled. 😆 But Arin is an individual I never want to meet and talk about games with, because after seeing a few of these compilations from others, I can never take his word seriously.

Yeah, this is a textbook example of why the Game Grumps are a terrible Let's Play company. If you want a good Sonic Adventure playthrough, there's no better man than TearOfGrace. Plays it all the way through, treats it fairly, and he clearly and concisely explains the criticisms he has. Plus, his playthrough's only fourteen episodes, so you can tell he wasn't trying to milk the game dry like these bastards were.
And at least ToG has his moments of fun with these games. Even if I’m not a fan of his content anymore, at least his playthrough of SA1 was enjoyable.
This game didn't exactly age well compared to other classics that had already existed at the time like Mario 64 or Diablo, but they really do a good job of making it look bad.
