My video diary from Chicago to Santa Monica Beach in California. The Main Street of America. The mother of all roads. Route 66. Experience the entire route and its roadside attractions with me. It's a road movie and you're always there.
Roadside attractions are the places, locations or sights that line up along Route 66.
Not all of them have anything to do with the road or cars. There are also breweries, huge excavators, comic heroes, mines or underground missile positions of the US Army. The original route is 3945 kilometers. In my film I end up driving over 10,000 kilometers. You can see that I have found a lot of other roadside attractions besides Route 66. The sights that I show you can all be reached by car, in my case a Ford Mustang convertible. A 4WD, or SUV, off-road vehicle is not necessary. The route that I show you on film and drive starts, as it did in 1926, in Chicago, on Adams Street and leads to California, to the Santa Monica Pier.
I'll show you as much as I can of the original historic route from 1926. The route had changed several times up until the 1970s. Today, you can no longer drive all sections of Route 66 in the 8 states where the route runs. However, you can still easily drive around 85% in a Ford Mustang convertible, and I don't mean the shortcuts on the highway. I'll also show you deserted sections of the route that you can sometimes only drive a few kilometers but then have to turn back. There are still parts that are easy to see and some are hidden on private property. I'll drive you far more than the 3945 kilometers of Route 66. The Will Roger Highway of Route 66. I'll take on a few more kilometers and show you roadside attractions that are along the route and a little off the route. At the end I'll show you the different Route 66 end points.
