I was there for the 2019 Reno race. My first time. One of the coolest events I’ve ever been to. And Dreadnought was unreal! I was speechless at how fast that airplane was!
This is what the once awesome Reno Gold Races has become, not much more that parade laps around the pylons so sad. They should just pull the plug and call it. Did anyone have any doubt which plane would win? Winning speed Dreadnought 403mph close to 100mph slower than the highly modified planes of yesteryear. Second place 348mph third 300mph and forth 239mph the other 2 DNF glad I didn't go just watching this on YT gave me a sick "pit in stomach" feeling. Hope Reno Air Race Association can turn this around, I know it's not really up to them it's the owners of the planes.
I moved to Socal and didn't miss much. Sad deal. They did have Strega, Dreadnought, Goldfinger at the Chino planes of fame Airshow and they did a few laps .
Been attending since 1966 and this the first Unlimited Gold race run without a pace aircraft . ( the pace aircraft being the winning aircraft....what a suprise ! hahaha) Also the slowest winning speed since Lefty Gardner in the Thunderbird P-51. The whole race was a farce, better to switch to tail chases like at Chino. If you missed the showdown between Strega and Voodoo two yrs ago , you missed your last opportunity to see "real" Unlimited air racing. The end was coming and it is here now
@@nickdavis965 You mean "Sky Fire" right? I've missed 4 shows that I recall. One for a AFROTC commitment, one on 9/11 , the year of the Galloping ghost crash and of course this yr. Still have a race program from 1966, has the Silver Knolls real estate insert too. www.skyfirevideo.com/
Nice race however sad that the “heavy iron” racers are no longer competing ! Where is Rare Bear? Strega? Voodoo? The cost of fielding Gold class high performance Reno racers has become prohibitive. The cost of blowing up a classic Merlin or British radial has.drastically cut the number of seriously fast entries.
1. Voodoo was retired and donated to Planes of Fame in Chino, CA in December 2017 2. Rod Lewis bought Rare Bear shortly before Lyle Shelton died. He has the money to race it but I doubt it will see much more action. www.lewisairlegends.com/ 3. cant find anything on Strega
Wanted to post the exact same... miss these spectacular unlimited racers so much... but as an rc pliot i can build my own :o) Spring 2020 i will come up with something new...
How do these aircraft get to the races? They're so extremely dangerous they should not be allowed to operate outside the closed course. They should be trucked to the race venue like almost every other racing machine.

I KNOW THE FEELING. I WAS THERE 2013. WHEN I ENTERED THE PITS COULDENT HELP BUT SHEAD A TEAR. A LIFE TIME DREAM COME TRUE. ITS THE BALLS...👍🇺🇸
It sucks what happened to miss America. Actually me and my grandfather shad Morris worked on big red and miss America back in 2019!
Nothing compares to the 2017 race of Voodoo vs. Strega!

Turn off stabilization when your filming unless you did that with the editing software. You notice the planes jumping forward.
Impressive machines!
nice video. 🛩🛩🛩。ありがとうございます
P&W brute power!
I'm starting to understand how the sea fury's managed to shoot down migs in Korea
What's about Rare Bear and September Fury? Didn't see them since 2014.
The divorce has grounded Rare Bear I'm told.
Rare to see it off the ground
dissapointed that miss america did not finish can someone give me a timestamp on when that happened?
Was this a parade?
How come no one has ever flown BF109G or K or Ta 152 D model in the air races are actually faster than the P 51
Yeah, and why has nobody entered a Dornier DO 335 either? Or a De Havilland Hornet? Surely it can't be because no surviving examples are air worthy?

Reno gold high-performance racing is deadBut the other classes are a lot of fun
I see none of the fast planes were in this race! Only planes were the Sea Furys with P&W 4360 engines and Stock Mustangs!
WILL SOMEONE SHUT UP THE ANNOUNCER WHEN VERY LARGE AVAITION ENGINES ARE SINGING.
I’ve wanted to watch this race. It looks like great fun
Basically this pilots don’t need to be highly skilled they Just need to be fucking rich
Dreadnought didn't even need the big vertical stabilizer to win.
After the Galloping Ghost crash, was the course changed to keep the planes farther away from the crowd?
Yes, the course was changed in 2012.
I see six irreplaceable vintage airframes put at huge risk.......But OMG the RUSH!
