      interact with animals I make
      the effort to smile without
      showing my teeth and it
      may not be only that but I'm
      pretty damn popular with pets.

    The song Smile is Ilias theme the prevailing theory is that it was originally a lullaby her parents sang to her being corrupted and warped by Adam and his more violent point of view.
    The song All Things Must Die is described as both Cinder and Ravens theme. Cinders interpretation is the chaotic evil way of ensuring that life on Remnant is utterly exterminated. Ravens interpretation is the true neutral way of accepting that life is short and that you and your loved one will wither away and it's best to accept that and move on and forget.

    • @robertolanzone
      @robertolanzone Год назад +1

      Was it confirmed, the fact Adam currupted it? I heard that "interpretation", but I've always preferred the creepy idea that her parents instilled some twisted disturbing ideas themselves

    • @daysand123

      Given what was known about Raven then compared to now the song is more of a chaotic ensurance versus a solemn acceptance.

      @@robertolanzone While it is a creepy interesting idea, her parents as we knew them just wanted a good life for their daughter so they wanted her to hide who she was. Having them want revenge while it makes sense based on how the faunus are treated doesn't make sense for what they wanted for their daughter and kinda cheapens the journey the character went through. She took the good life her parents wanted for her and turned to the life of the white fang due to their deaths and lack of empathy from the humans around her at the time. Having her pull herself out of that life after all that is a much stronger character arc personally.

    • @robertolanzone
      @robertolanzone 6 месяцев назад

      @@swhaw I see your point. In my opinion, the lyrics don't sound necessarily akin to White Fang ideals. The idea I get from the song is, like you said "live a good life", just with the addition of "but know it's all an act to take advantages they wouldn't give you, it's all a deceit to those bastards who deserve the worst and wouldn't let you win otherwise". It's nothing like "kill them" or "do terrorism crimes", it's just "keep exploiting them with your lies since they don't deserve truth". Basically what the show canon told us (they wanted her to blend with humans and hide the fact she's a Faunus, which when you think about it isn't the best or most healthy advice and even now that Ilia turned her life around for the better she still is not hiding, she's proudly a Faunus), the lyrics add to the canin only the feeling of haste towards humans for it.

    • @swhaw
      @swhaw 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@robertolanzone I can see that and I would agree if we had any kind of hint that her parents were self referential to it being an act but for the most part while yeah it isn't healthy advice the goal was just for her to live her life in a wealthy nice school while her parents worked in the mines to afford it for her. If I had any other indication that they were more directing her as you say then I would feel better about it. But all we got of her parents wishes were their rules they gave her for fitting in about not changing color or bringing anyone home. There wasn't any more targeted instructions about it being a lie to take advantage, moreso instructions so as not to ruin the illusion so she can go to a nice school.

    I love the differences between Path of Isolation and This Life is Mine from V4. Path of Isolation took place while Weiss was still living at home and you can hear her despair in it. Once she leaves, she grows so much and you can hear that when she sang This Life is Mine.

    Volume 5 soundtrack:
    - Triumph - Easily in my top five OPs. Bit of banger.
    - Ignite - Appeared in the Yang character short. What really sells me is the trumpets, and this is probably my favorite rap Lamar has done. Also love the nods to the OG Yang trailer quote.
    - Path to Isolation (Mirror Mirror 0.5) - Appeared in the Weiss Character Short, taking place before Weiss’ OG trailer and before she got her scar or found a way from under Jacques’ thumb. Which explains why it’s asking “who am I” since it’s taking place before Weiss even went to Beacon.
    - Smile - Appeared at very end of the Blake Character Short. I think the idea was Ilia’s parents’ words getting twisted by pain and rage and grief after their death. I could be wrong. But if so it is sort of Adam's ideology twisting Ilia's thought process. Admittedly, not my favorite song. Jeff and Casey do great, as usual, it’s just not my taste.
    - All Things Must Die - Appeared during the Maiden Fight in episode 13. Uses both Cinder and Raven’s motifs so it’s sort of a duet between them. I love Casey’s voice in this, how she can go from slow and eerie to morbid rock at the drop of a hat. Fun fact: Murder, unkindness, and conspiracy are all names for groups of crows/ravens.
    - This Time - Credits song. And the fan art got this one wrong. It’s actually a duet between Ghira and Blake according to Jeff. Which makes a little more sense, since it’s talking about forming the new movement and all. Minor detail but worth mentioning I suppose. And, yeah. Never got into this one. I have a hard time getting into Blake songs for the most part, which is weird because I like Blake…
    - All That Matters - Appeared in Ep 14 during the RWBY reunion. I’m not even gonna try to cover up the fact that I listened to this on repeat for a couple hours and cried because it gave me a lot of feelings when it first released. I love that it shows a lot of complicated feelings on Yang’s part. She’s happy Blake is back but still hurt that she left in the first place. It’s just gonna take a bit for things to get back on the steady ground, you know? Also just… Bee Angst.

    Your dream discussion reminded me of a lesson I was given at one point. There are four types of dreams, the dreams you achieve, the dreams you delay, the dreams you let go, and the dreams that were never meant to be. The last one sounds like a downer, but it's meant to acknowledge that there are dreams that are unhealthy and unrealistic. It's okay to let them go or fail at them.

    Something to keep in mind with these RWBY songs is to try to remember when and where the song was featured like for example "The Path To Isolation" played during the Weiss character short which takes place before Volume 1 so the song is from the perspective of who Weiss was back then

  • @StarcraftSquall
    @StarcraftSquall Год назад +64

    There’s a few things that confused you, so here’s the lowdown -
    “The Path to Isolation,” the Weiss song is played during her character short, which is a prequel. So this song reflects her inner feelings about herself before Volume 1 starts.
    “Smile” is actually voiced by both of Ilia’s parents to her, before she heads to Atlas and has to disguise herself to avoid their prejudice.
    “All Things Must Die” is played during the Raven/Cinder fight - it could be about both of them, but the explanation that makes the most sense is to view it as Raven to Cinder as she takes her out.
    “This Time” can be confusing as the male lines were interpreted by the artist as being Sun lines, but they’re actually Ghira’s, Blake’s father.
    Hope that helps!

    12:46 Path to Isolation is a prequel to the rest pif Weiss's songs. Remember that it played during her volume 5 trailer, which was a flashback. This song goes to before she went to Beacon, before she met Ruby, Blake, and Yang, before she got away from Atlas and her father. I can't blame you for missing that, a lot of people do, especially considering Yang's song, also in a flashback trailer, _does_ fit her current state more than her past.

    I don't think you guys understood "Smile" at all. It's not a Blake song, it's an Ilia song. I mean, she's right there on screen. The lyrics are about her hiding in plain sight until it's the right time for her to strike and get revenge. It's pretty dark and shows her formerly twisted view of the world.
    Also, for context, the Weiss song "Path to Isolation" is from the flashback character short. It's a Wiess before she went to beacon and had 5 seasons of growth.
    "All Things Must Die", Ravens song, is from the Raven vs Cinder fight. It's Raven singing, directly TO Cinder (gleefully voicing this eulogy) and basically smacking her down verbally as she beats her physically. Embers extinguished in effigy (Cinder is killed by being frozen). Also "Murder, Unkindness, Conspiracy" are all names for groups of corvidae.
    "This Time" is the sequel to Blakes first song, "From Shadows" and has lyrics that are literally the direct opposite of those from the first.

    so smile is actually an ilia song and your right the song is corrupted as it goes on but its corrupted by ilia the beginning messages is referring to to the rules ilia had when she was studying at atlas it then turns into ilia corrupting that message out of hate and fear to justify her part in the white fang its a really tragic song when you look at it this way also all things must die is a raven song it plays in the fight between raven and cinder but it might make more since if the person raven is singing to is meant to be Salem as they refer to her as not being able to die and the song turns into a song about accepting that that cant be the case and all things must be able to die somehow but you are still correct that raven is a hypocrite that she's scared and broken by her own logic she uses to express her strength she is weak but she tries so hard to hide it to seem strong making her such a beautiful foil to yang

    Great reaction, looking forwards to the next one! =)
    Couple of notes to reiterate from other commenters: all of the character shorts were set pre-Red trailer, so "Ignite", "Path to Isolation", and "Smile" are all snapshots of the characters before the show even started. "Smile" is a bit interesting because it's both about Ilya but because the short it's attached to is intercut between scenes of pre-show Ilya and Blake talking and current time Ilya and Blake fighting means it does double duty showing you where Ilya coming from both then and now.
    And of course, have to reinforce that "All Things Must Die" is Raven _to_ Cinder, rather than just being about Raven. It is illustrative of Raven's outlook on the world, for certain, but is more about telling Cinder to just die already than anything else.

    Late, but All Things Must Die is both a Raven AND Cinder song. It's basically them monologuing to each other.
    Verse 1 is Raven, hence the bridge "Murder, Unkindness, Conspiracy" (all terms for a flock of ravens), as well as some Edger Allen Poet references.
    Verse 2 is Cinder, hence lines like "All things conclude, all things resolve. It wouldn't matter - we're always involved." Plus the "Be glad you existed, and draw your last breath" mirrors her words to Pyrrha.

    Yeah the lyric video of All that Matters Somehow seems to be very opposite of whom it's meant to be representing. The similar seems to be with a similar lyric track in Volume 6, im assuming by the same guy. Clearly the lyrics for the priorly mentioned song is meant to be from Yang's perspective cause yeah Blake kinda fucked her over emotionally in a time of need and given Yang's past shes had a lot of people that seem to just leave her to cope and find her own way to get better. Tai especially didnt even submit to telling Yang anything about Raven until after permanent damage was already done to her. This was aside the fact Qrow saved her early on because of her own desire to know about Raven and even up until the point he talks about Raven he states Qrow told her about Raven even though he said no.
    My own pwrsonal grievances aside on Tai being a terrible dad to gis first born it puts into perspective how much Yang was forced to grow on her own and not have a literal childhood. Something that actually comes up in the Yang central Volume of the RWBY side manga where she literally screams and cries at Qrow that she never had a childhood because she had to step up and it just makes her overall character sadder because she still loves and respects so many people and undyingly loves her sister for better or worse but its also left a toll on her. Even if her recover was really rushed which in my opinion it didnt get nearly any time compared to what it shpuld have in V4 in fact the comics actually have her interract with a character that gives her amazing insight in forgiveness despite being played harshly and it works because it helps develope what she is now and honestly V4 cpuld have used her interracting with that character a lot because of how it plays into her growth.
    Later on if somebody tells you Yang is a hippocrite. Please tell them to board a bus to insaneoland because shes never gone against her own ways.

    I have always felt like Vol 5 is the weakest musically. 7 Tracks - 3 from trailers = 4 Tracks in the volume - 2 for opening and closing which leaves only All Things Must Die and All that Matters to be in the actual Volume. Only Vol 1 has as little music in it and I feel like the Vol 1 songs as a whole are just stronger. Not to say there aren't a few outstanding tracks but others are just okay in my opinion.

    Volume 4 and 5 are not my favourite story-wise, but definitely make my top list when it comes to soundtrack. In fact, it feels like there's more story in the OST than in the volumes itself, at least for these 2. Every song is a character progression or a character description, showing us into their minds and making us understand what they go through mentally. And they're beautifully written and composed. Jeff Williams really is talented.

    If you want some more RWBY stuff, there's a fan series called Fixing RWBY by Celtic Phoenix. It goes through Volume 6 currently ,and there's new lore and scenes (both through pictures and some animated scenes, all made by a collaborative effort by many different artists). If you're interested, the first 2 videos cover the new lore and history of the world of Remnant, and he's recently released a remastered version of Volume 1
