Bloodsport is in my top five for most watched movies. I've easily watched this over 100 times in the last 34 years
More than that as he say Bolo Yueng "you break my record!" "I break you!" When he see Bolo on the train had me lol spasin now before as a kid I didn't get it I get it now 😅
This, Predator, the Big Lebowski, and Platoon. These films make up a stupid percentage of my movie watching time over my last 42 years. And I would say between this and Predator, two most rewatchable movies ever. You can come into the film at any time, sit down, have a laugh, and enjoy the hell out of it.
As for Van Damme movies, I really don’t see a reason to even talk about any of the others. He could have stopped here and I would still have considered him a legend. Best martial arts movie out there. That may be taboo to say in light of every Bruce Lee movie and a bunch of Jackie Chan flicks. But I really do think it’s the best.

There will be no one like Van Damme again. He was the perfect action star. He had an incredible physic. His fight scenes are among the best I've ever seen. Those kicks look like they could take your head off! Everyone talks about Stallone and Arnie but Van Damme was always my favourite action star. I must have seen his films 1000s of times over the dacades. Bloodsport sits comfortably in my top 10 films of all time. It looks gorgeous in 4k also.

Two of my favourite RUclipsrs commentary on one of my favourite films. A magic late Christmas present!
I absolutely love this movie and I’m glad you guys did this commentary. I remember coming across this movie in Ecuador and watching it on VCD because we didn’t have a DVD player lol. I even started training because of this movie and would go on to make rice bags into punching bags with the soundtrack in the background.
As far as motivation goes, I know Chun Li messed up Jackson but I always thought in my head canon that Chun Li was the one who defeated and killed Shin-go. I don’t know if that’s true or not but I thought that was the story when I was younger. And what happens to his shidoshi? I thought he died after he saw him but it’s never explained what illness he was sick from cuz he didn’t look as old as the movie was making him out to be.
Man I literally just watched this movie two weeks ago. Good timing!

Action icon Jean-Claude Van Damme was initially cast but ultimately fired from the 1987 sci-fi film "Predator" due to passing out from dehydration. Bill Duke, who portrayed the Predator, revealed this detail.
Also, during the production of Predator, Van Damme was offered the role in Bloodsport. So he was very eager to leave the Predator set
That's odd, my copy clearly says 56 with no cut-off. Well regardless, a very fun listen! I still find this Van Damme's most watchable movie.
Fantastic commentary. The 4K disc is fantastic also I’d recommend it. In the latest Mortal Kombat what’s interesting is he’s not actually Van Damme he’s Johnny Cage as was originally intended.

A war took Senzo's first family he left for America to start again.... then he loses his second line to another war. Presumably Vietnam War. And he just is so destroyed by his legacy being lost that's when Frank says he will continue it for him

A genuinely wonderful film. No ironic enjoyment from me. I know you can point to hammy acting, or the low budget nature of it, or the fact it's based on the life of a habitual liar, but it's one of those films where everything comes together and is just so much fun.

Ironically if van damme or frank dux were legit martial artists is utterly irrelevant at this point because all the George st pierres, and other ufc champs who grew up in the 80’s/90s were all inspired by van damme movies. Blood sport basically is the genesis of creating a huge interest in martial arts in the western world(I am aware dojo’s existed, Bruce Lee already inspired the whole world) but blood sports showed the kumite and basically created that whole fascination with cage fighting. Also it hugely inspired western stuntmen like Scott Adkins to become martial artists and stuntmen themselves, remember the Jackie Chan movies and the likes were at first hard to watch in the west but blood sports certainly helped fascilitate that interest.
Imagine not being able to get in the door at Cannon and trying to make friends with Chuck Norris by climbing over his fence😂 Fair do's to him though.. he did have great balance, delusional self belief and a massive ego. Only in America right? After you've tried everywhere else for a decade obviously😂 He still seems like Gary Oldman compared to Seagal on the acting front though. Seagal is ironically a more legit fighter/bully/twat. In a parallel universe they teamed up for a second rate early 90's buddy cop movie.. like Tango and Cash but worse. How did that never happen? It would have been potentially equally awesome and horrible.
