No problem, for mid / high tech planted aquariums I would recommend using the previous WRGB light. This light is more suitable for low tech planted tanks or general fish tanks.
Just wondering if you're still using these lights. I made something like this a few months ago and noticed a lot of diodes fail due to lack of an aluminum channel or heatsink to dissipate heat. Added some channels and now they're fine.
Nice video, but I have some doubts about the safety of this light setup. How do you take care of sealing the exposed electrical components from the water that would evaporate and then accumulate on the led strip. The user might get a shock if he touches the wet led light. Need to solve this issue. I also have a doubt that the lumens is enough to penetrate to the bed of a tank with the height of 24 inches or more..
1. This light is completely safe, there is no doubt about that. First, I've been using this light for a long time, never seen it get wet due to moisture. This light is about 6 inches above the surface of the aquarium water. Second, no sane person would touch it or its wires when the light is on. Again, the LED strips and wires are placed in such a way that there is no way it will touch the user's hands while working in the aquarium. But the main reason why these lights are absolutely safe is that these LED strip lights run on 12V DC only. So, even if someone intentionally touches these LED strips or the wires or even its connection points while the light is on, that person will never get an electric shock. 2. In this video, I have shown only the method of making such light and I have made this light according to the size of my aquarium and according to my requirements. The height of my aquarium is 30cm. Here the light is reaching the substrate bed quite well. So, naturally, the number of LED strips should be increased according to the size of the aquarium and to get the desired output. Check the description box of the video for more information. Thank you.
In that case, you need to increase the number of LED strips and also use a good quality LED strip light to provide adequate light to the plants. Also check the description for more information.
It will depend on what quality LED strip you buy, because the lumens / brightness of LED strips vary according to different brands and their quality. So, you need to tell me the lumens per foot of the LED strip light, then I can advise you how many strips you need for your tank.
Hey bro,i want a light for my 24*12*12,i want this light for my mid tech plants so how many strips do i need and how much waat and should i use the 12v adapter and is it gonna heat up? Please i want your reply please inform me asap.ty
do you expect any issues with making this on glass instead of aluminum? and is there somewhere for the heat to escape? or will the diodes eventually fail?
@@madebykm but I am from small town and i only get this organic fertilizer because of no choice. Is this organic fertilizer are harmful for my fishes and plant
The problem is I haven't used it and don't know its composition. So, by assumption I can't suggest you to use it. I have given the product links in the description box of my DIY aquarium soil video. You can check them out. It is available online and you can get it easily.
pro tip, for a planted tank add red and blue strip too! thanks for the video everyone should see this question, can you dim separate zones of a strip that's split up if it's on one power supply. such as a solid color strip being dimmable in two places separately?
Yes you are right, red, blue and even green LED strips can be used here, but I didn't use it because I wanted to make this light for general fish tanks and low tech planted tanks and also wanted to make it at a very low cost. That’s why I only used 6500K white LED strips. Low light aquarium plants will have no problem growing in this light. I want to make another LED light where I will use these color LED strips with white LED strips and use dimmers to control individual color strips. There, I will try to do what you said. Thank you 😊
@@madebykm you're awesome i can't wait to see that video. like the most cost effective way to individually dim multiple colors. do you use pwm dimmers? are there any materials that i should avoid mounting the strips onto? what backplate materials are best suited besides aluminum frame? and yeah I'd definitely put some green too on for a good balance , i like the way u roll , diy all the way those conventional overpriced lights are literally the same leds. I'm curious about the par on the lights, let me know if you get around to testing.
Let's see, I haven't decided what kind of dimmer to use yet. Aluminum is best, also metals such as copper, stainless steel etc. can be used as backplates. I will also measure the PAR when I build the light. Thank you 😊
It will depend on what quality LED strip you buy, because the lumens / brightness of LED strips vary according to different brands and their quality. So, you need to tell me the lumens per foot of the LED strip light, then I can advise you how many strips you need for your tank.
I purposely left it open so the heat would escape and the light would stay cool. Let's see what happens. If a waterproof LED strip light is used then there will be no problem.
The wire I connected to the positive terminal (copper pad) of the LED strip is the positive wire and the other wire connected to the negative terminal is the negative wire.
Well, I recommend you to watch this DIY aquarium light video of mine - ruclips.net/video/Ri5-964z4io/видео.html This LED light is more suitable for low light aquarium plants and general fish tanks. See the description box for more information.
Yes, it is too small for an adult-sized angelfish. I put the fish in that tank temporarily for the purpose of making the video and then put the fish back in its original tank which is 30 gallons.
I'm an electrician. I do led strip lights under kitchen cabinets. Same principal but I use small connectors instead of soldering. They're two sided. One side for wire then the other side has a flat opening that the LED strip goes into. Small screws secure them. Just giving an alternative to those who don't want to solder. Great job BTW!
Happy to watch your videos , your sharing the knowledge with us that's very great, thank you
