could you shed some light on as to why Vic tends to use loco hauled passenger sets and NSW has the XPT and Xplorer it just seems odd that the victorian trains are loco hauled yet here in this vid we also see DMUs (i think) any knowledge is helpful
Victoria uses primarily the N class for loco hauled longer distance trains. The N class is also used for some of the heavier commuter trains in the AM and PM peaks. The DMU's are used for services that operate on tracks with active protection at level crossings. Ballarat - Maryborough being the exception where they run at reduced speed . The DMU's in this are the "Sprinter" which has the flat front and the Vlocity which has some semblance of aerodynamics. Sprinters are allowed 130km/h and Vlocitys 160 km/h where the track permits. There are no DMU's on standard gauge because (a) there are no commuter services and (b) many of the level crossings have no active protection and these shit box death traps do not do well in arguments with trucks.
Rod Williams so just curious do the N class hauled trains come in both broad and standard gauge ?? and the N classes that do run on standard gauge do they use the interstate gauge up to albury ?
Great compilation mate. A like from me.
I love the steel train. No wonder it's a triple header. It would make a great model but could I find a layout long enough to run it on ?
Great non stop action Rod, and good variety of locos and traffic. I'd bet your rain is a lot warmer than ours this time of the year!! Cheers. Ken
LOL yeah but it's still wet mate.
Nice the 2nd version had a little less, but still fun to watch, Thank you for sharing both, Mate!
A definite winner of a video, nice work in blending in and out, you are really good at filming, Thank you for your great work.
The 'modals are quite some length and really get hustled along. Nice horn sound at 4.58 as well. K
Nice quality!
Nice!
