Can you make a video about your RUclips studio setup? What stuff you have camera, light etc. I'm pretty sure a lot of people interested to buy stuff for their zoom calls etc that the stream looks better
Hi Patrick! That's a cool idea. I may make a video like that on my vlog channel (ruclips.net/channel/UCrIk3cn8T3R80BcJBz9Z-nw) You can see a summary of the gear I own at craylor.co/kit
You sir, are my 'go to' YT source for comparisons. Please do a comparison of EU, or at least European web hosts (or indeed Asian ones) and under what circumstances those might be a better choice. Also, the pros and cons of Euro privacy laws versus US First Amendment and how these different perspectives affect content control by the web host.
I've been with Bluehost since 2006 (!) and am looking to change after a series of truly awful phone support calls in 2020. They haven't updated my interface (I'm somehow on an old version they keep saying they'll update). One rep even lied to me about there being a Bluehost email for customer service complaints -- and I wasn't even asking for them, I made it clear it was for a previous rep I had a bad issue with. SO BAD Y'ALL. Don't do it
Yeah, I had a similar experience with their support. It's pretty dysfunctional and seems like they don't do nearly enough training. Best of luck as you find a new host!
Thanks for uploading this follow up video, was concerned about SiteGound but could see they made a complete overhaul since your last video on the topic
CAN YOU PLEASE DO A REVIEW ON SCALAHOSTING. THEY HAVE MANAGED CLOUD VPS PLANS STARTING AT $9. IT INCLUDES 50 GB SSD, 1 CPU CORE, AND 2 GB OF RAM. IT ALSO HAS AN SPANEL WHM CONTROL PANEL(pretty much exactly to cPanel WHM panel). THEY ALSO HAVE GREAT SUPPORT. Not only that, they also offer DigitalOcean servers and AWS servers (only cost $25 with the same specs above) all with their SPanel.
When I used SiteGround Geek plan a few years ago (twice) I kept hitting problems with running emails through the few sites, the IMAP collecting from each person's devices/computers would hit limits (inode or somesuch?) and that would crash sites out as too many processes would be running. They don't mention it on their sales pages but the detail was buried in the T&Cs. In the end, even after trying their VPS, they really failed me badly and I swore I'd never go back. Running loads of people's email accounts through alternative services was/is not really an option I or my clients can afford and it's an extra complication to set up, so via the hosting is preferred. Any experience on this issue with any of the hosting services?
Hey, thank you for sharing your experience here, and I’m sorry to here that. I’m not totally sure if you’re referring to the included email inbox hosting (email@yourdomain.com) or sending emails from your website such as a contact form submission or new comment. Regarding custom email inboxes, I did not test them at these hosts because I always prefer to use dedicated email hosting from Namecheap or Google. I don’t trust hosting email even on my own VPS because there are just too many battles to fight with spam, reliability, etc. I feel exactly the same about sending emails out. I use Sparkpost or SendInBlue’s free plan with the WPMail plugin to route email through those services for mail WordPress needs to send. In my experience, it’s just not worth it to handle mail sending yourself. Even with your own VPS, someone could have held the IP address before you and gotten it blacklisted with mail servers. It’s probably not the answer you want to hear, but I’m picky about never sending or receiving email through my web server.
@@Craylor Hi, thanks for the reply, yes, I was referring mainly to hosting the email accounts/inboxes via the web-hosting package which people such as SiteGround under their all-inclusive plans advertise as "unlimited email accounts", but in fact are often limited or crippled by some other limitation such as the number of underlying processes allowed on the (shared) servers. Personally, in over 10 years of using various hosting services (usually via cPanel/WHM), I (and my few clients) haven't had any issues with security, spam or site corruption/hacking and it's so much more convenient configuring things all in one place (at no extra cost). There is usually enough space on the server for GBs of email storage and I can setup as many email addresses for me and my clients as I like within the limits of the space available. After many years of trying various hosting companies/services and being quite dissatisfied with promises vs actuality, I finally found and settled for one that I've used for a few years now (not a VPS, in the UK where I'm also based) that seems to run without any problems, keeps each domain/web-account securely separated/isolated and doesn't have stupid limitations and 'gotchas' or cost me a fortune (well, until the unwelcome money-grabbing pricing changes that cPanel imposed last year). I solved that by bringing the number of domains/sites hosted below the new price/tier limit by deleting a few demo/test domains I was using so no big deal (or I could change to an alternative hosting control system that they now also use but I haven't got around to that yet and in any case I'm used to cPanel). I also pay a small extra fee for a dedicated IP address that is mine alone and that prevents all sorts of blacklisting issues that shared servers are often susceptible to. I also use Namecheap for purchasing domains and just point them entirely to my hosting provider but have never tried Namecheap's email options, I wonder if they provide free space to store and retrieve emails via IMAP? As for Gmail/Google service - well, I'm not sure I would want to keep my email stuff up there in their cloud - doesn't sound particularly secure or private being held by them in any case and then there's also the extra cost for the Google Suite (if wanted/needed) or whatever it's now called? Interesting points you make though - if I did keep email separate then maybe things on the server are more secure/faster for web use only but for a lot of users on a budget, the 'inclusive' email account extras that are not unreasonably offered by (some/most) web hosting services makes all the difference and I find lack of mention about these extras (in many people's reviews) doesn't always paint the full picture and makes choosing a 'good' service difficult. A while ago I did explore using secure email services separate from the hosting, and the only true secure ones (away from government/cloud/google services etc) were things like ProtonMail or Kolab, based in places like Switzerland (or similar privacy-based world regions) but I never got around to fully trying them out and then there's cost again (per email address/inbox) that usually makes them a deal breaker especially when I have quite a few inboxes just for myself (for the various things I do for work/clients and testing etc) whereas cPanel email hosting makes it a no-brainer/no-cost option for me.
Hello! The limit to which you are referring is called "simultaneous server processes". It is listed in our plan comparison page, at the bottom, in the section SERVER RESOURCES. In most cases, whenever our clients hit this limit, this is caused by the use of email clients keeping a high number of Idle IMAP connections open at the same time. What we usually recommend is limiting these simultaneous mail connections in the mail client settings, which seems to resolve the matter for all types of email software but one (that simply lacks this restricting functionality.) As to your VPS account, we are not sure why it failed your expectations. Still, we wish you the best of luck with any ongoing and future projects!
@@siteground The limitations of server resources may be mentioned better these days but it was quite hidden a while ago and it took quite a bit of digging and support tickets to uncover what was actually happening. In any case, the Idle IMAP connections is/was the big problem. If say for just one of my email inboxes running through the system is providing with me live/active IMAP email, and say I'm running it on my phone, a tablet and/or one of my computers, I am instantly using up several simultaneous server processes, and that's just me using one of my email addresses. Then there are the other inboxes I use and also those of my clients who all want a few as well, in the end all that just kept my hosted sites crashing out of existence and email became flaky. I never had that sort of issue with other hosting services and in view of the fact that the plan I was on was designed for people wanting to offer hosting for multiple (unlimited) sites and emails, I found it just wasn't fit for purpose or as described. Fine maybe just for websites but that's not what is being sold or promised, adding email hosting into the equation and it all goes belly up. As for the VPS issues, that was all something entirely different and even with long chains of support tickets, each offering different advice, fixes and obtuse answers and suggestions from a different person each time I tried to resolve things. The problem was never resolved and everything collapsed really badly during a non-demanding presentation of a newly developed education resource site that was about to go mainstream, whereas on the previous GoGeek plan it had worked acceptably okay but on SG's suggestion (in preparation for the main site demo) I had moved it up a notch to VPS in good time beforehand. Needless to say, with the failed client demo, the project didn't go any further.
@@mrartist.studio Thank you for sharing your perspective on this issue. As I mentioned in my video, I did not evaluate the included email hosting at Bluehost or SiteGround. I may have to consider this in future reviews.
Personally, I find Bluehost cheaper than most. I was actually using it for a while before I decide to move to Cloudways. Just takes care of all my problems. It's too easy.
Bluehost definitely has the best pricing if you're on a budget. Cloudways is great! Not cheap, but great for advanced users who know what they need and why.
DreamHost/DreamPress does not offer native reselling plans. You can absolutely setup hosting on DreamHost on behalf of your client and make sure they have their own separate account, but it's not the best platform if you're looking for reseller hosting. If you're seeking high quality reseller hosting, check out Flywheel. Their solution is pricey, but depending on the tier of your clients, it may work out to be a great option.
Are you now using cloudways anymore? I was trying to register an account with your link but they wanted a full verification that I send a passport copy without censored parts and stuff so I decided to get the VPS somewhere else
Yes, I am still using Cloudways for most everything. I’ve heard people say that before about a passport - that’s concerning and I was never asked that. Do you live in the US?
