I had an opportunity to see and hear this man in Baltimore one time and was just blown away with what I heard. People were swooning like they were in a club. I don't think God needs to borrow from the world for any love songs. Those secular songs were written with a certain spirit behind it and it wasn't to glorify God. That's why we have to be careful what we sing and do all in the name of Jesus. Satan is cunning and lets not forget he was in charge of the music so don't think he won't try to deceive the people of God through song. I can think of so many love songs that I can sing to the Lord and if for some reason some of those great worship songs just don't come to mind, I can always sing my own song to the Lord. I believe He would appreciate that more than me borrowing anything the world has to offer. The Bible says old things are past away and behold all things are become new so "I Love you Lord and I lift my voice to worship you Oh my soul rejoice! Take joy my King in what you hear and let it be a sweet sweet sound in your ear".

Things like this really surprise me sometimes, people act as though God has to take everything we come up with. The whole point of the Bible is to bring us up To his level of holiness. A local Caribbean artist converted to Christianity and now produces his music from political and other West Indian genre to reach a wider audience and he too have been criticized for the same reason. The R&B groups of the `60`s did the same thing to change our views and they came mostly from the Church. Let is go and support this Minister. I have been sending the link to my family and friends.

You are so right about how some church people can be judgemental. I was a pastor for 18 years and like Bishop Lester and some of the officers of all ppl-the officers supposed to hold me up and hold them up was so judgemental about the Kingdom of God I would sing songs from jonathan butler from Cape Town, South Africa praise and worship to reach the God's ppl where they were and and then bring them back to church that moma sung. Some of them didn't know who George Duke was he done gospel songs every so often. Well God moved me out of that environment because I needed to grow more as a leader/musician/singer and now I'm in a place where I can have a platform not to show off or be arrogant; but as Bishop Lester would say there's nothing like having fun in church enjoying life and and God is the overall minister of music who gave us men and women gifts like in the performing arts to reach the lost, broken hearted and the destitute homeless. Although I play other genres of music I never forget my solid foundation of Jesus Christ because he is my Saviour, my Rock, and my Salvation.

I had a season where I was growing in the ways of Lord God, and all my soul could bear to worship to was love songs. It really helped me lock in on Lord and not religions version of him. You look at this video, and EVERYONE is worshipping. EVERYONE knows the songs young and old. He went old school church, and the young AND YOUNG old were still singing. He is flowing exactly how it should be 💥🙌🙏
I get the point he was trying to make but at the gist of it all the thought going through people's minds is where they used to be in their prior life before they came to the knowledge of God, even though he changed the words my mind still wondered on those songs. The words need to be different as it is a different kind of love, we WORSHIP God. We don't worship man so we can't give God these songs when the initial intent was not for God. I will not call them devil songs but I would not give God seconds or leftovers. My God is waaaaay toooo good for that! God doesn't needs songs to reach young people, that is a lie from Satan!
I feel that there is s time and place, for all things. Now if you want to hold on to the song s of the world, then you don't want to grow spiritual, and worship in spirit and trust that God will take away the ungodly things.
Sometimes you have to meet people where they are. Not everyone is ready at the level Bishop Love is. So he has to meet them where they're at to reach them. If it takes changing the songs of the world into a gospel then so be it. All that matters is that he saves a life or lives.
A lot of the best hymns and carols were originally songs of the world and now are only remembered as spiritual songs. And this is a good thing. Besides, a lot of these "worldly" songs were influenced originally by Gospel and other popular spiritual themes over the centuries. Think of it as taking back what is God's and rededicating it to him.
I agree 100%. I enjoy the way he presents the message. That's why I said sometimes you have to meet people where they are. Although some won't agree but I feel he will reach a lot of people this way.

Just received this link from a friend. Hope this church has just kept the R&B lyrics as is. No need to reinvent classics. If the pastor just wanted to sing love songs, he didn't need to use Christ as an outlet for wanting to showcase his singing abilities. These songs conjure up feelings that typically have nothing to do with God! Yeah, he lost me. But I'm sure many of the parishioners found what they needed or wanted: even if it was a stroll back down immorality lane. Nice voice, though.

Can't get any more love than that...it was because of His dying that we have a right to be called children of God. Give God something that was initially intended to him. Do not give him strange fire in your worship. This is GOD we are talking about! Give him your best. CL Franklin (for those who do not know, the father of Aretha Franklin, and the equivalent of TD Jakes back in the 50s and 60s before he was shot and years later died from a botched robbery) used to take secular songs and made them into gospel songs also... I agree with what you said but the flaw in your postulation is saying because James Cleveland did it therefore it is okay for someone else to do it. I'm sure you have heard the saying "two wrongs don't make a right". Even the Bible says don't return evil for evil. Not in this case, however in certain circumstances, both actions could be wrong. One actions doesn't always justify another. Allow them to pass the scrutiny of the Word of God. It is He who sets right or wrong not us. Also Romans chapter 14 and 1 Corinthians chapter 8, Paul instructs how everything we do should be done in view of how it effects the weaker members of the body. If we being strong causes another to stumble we have failed. Now those chapters in their context were about eating food which weaker member might believe to be a sin to eat, but I think you can probably add doing certain acts that won't lead or direct to weaker member to Christ. I'm glad he is taking the time out to explain before after he sings. Explaining that it's about Jesus and the words should direct to the Lord. Additionally I don't think it was the center of his worship. We must keep in mind that some in the congregation is still too connected with their old life in the world and the song might still be just about the beat and old memories when we were living in opposition to God's will for us. But personally I loved it! God bless

The bible say let the weet and the tie grow up today he will do the separtion. How spiritual are you you can let a little R&B song disturb your spirit. It may take the Men of God singing R&B and changing it to GOSPEL to get that lost soul.You should be spiritual enough to stay in the right mind and still be saved.

@godchaser736 The songs are love songs. They were intended for a horizontal love. The love song to God is of a different kind. The words need to be different as it is a different kind of love, we WORSHIP God. We don't worship man so we can't give God these songs when the initial intent was not for God. I will not call them devil songs but I would not give God seconds or leftovers. My God is waaaaay toooo good for that! God doesn't needs songs to reach young people, that is a lie from Satan!

I feel that there is s time and place, for all things. Now if you want to hold on to the song s of the world, then you don't want to grow spiritual, and worship in spirit and trust that God will take away the ungodly things.
Sometimes you have to meet people where they are. Not everyone is ready at the level Bishop Love is. So he has to meet them where they're at to reach them. If it takes changing the songs of the world into a gospel then so be it. All that matters is that he saves a life or lives.
A lot of the best hymns and carols were originally songs of the world and now are only remembered as spiritual songs.
And this is a good thing.
Besides, a lot of these "worldly" songs were influenced originally by Gospel and other popular spiritual themes over the centuries. Think of it as taking back what is God's and rededicating it to him.
I agree 100%. I enjoy the way he presents the message. That's why I said sometimes you have to meet people where they are. Although some won't agree but I feel he will reach a lot of people this way.
Well I am in a seemingly contradictory conundrum here. I love Christian hip hop, but do not like when he changes secular songs and try to make them Gospel Songs.
Just received this link from a friend. Hope this church has just kept the R&B lyrics as is. No need to reinvent classics. If the pastor just wanted to sing love songs, he didn't need to use Christ as an outlet for wanting to showcase his singing abilities. These songs conjure up feelings that typically have nothing to do with God! Yeah, he lost me. But I'm sure many of the parishioners found what they needed or wanted: even if it was a stroll back down immorality lane. Nice voice, though.

I he was singing this to a woman we would call it romantic, if he sung this to a man we would call him homosexual, but he sings this to God and we call it of the devil? come on now.. am i wrong by saying that even Jesus touched people where they were.. It's time to take back that was stolen from us and a lot of that is music. Cause Satan new the impact that music can have. We are in the world, but not of the world. God is a holy God and we must worship Him in spirit and in truth. He sang one love song - Near the Cross. Can't get any more love than that...it was because of His dying that we have a right to be called children of God. All that other stuff took me right back to when I was partying and clubbing and my mind surely wasn't stayed on Jesus. We don't need the gimicks of the world to show our love to Him. This made me so very sad.

@lorenzo24711 taking back music is what we do when we worship. That doesn't mean we take a song intended for love horizontally and change it for love vertically. Give God something from you. Give God something that was initially intended to him. Do not give him strange fire in your worship. This is GOD we are talking about! Give him your best. This kind of stuff could not have happened in the holy of holies with the arc...we'd be dead! Thank God for mercy! We need to challenge ourselves!

you know you can tell the non educated folks when it comes to gospel music, number one nobody said anything wrong when a "white" preacher sung the entire Mariah Carey song as a worship song. By the way it is on youtube also. Number two, the most respected psalmist of my generation Rev. James Cleveland took a number one hit by the name Your the Best Thing that ever happened to me, made famous by Miss Gladys Knight and the Pips and made it famous.... and not one person ever said that was wrong, so how is this preacher wrong?? again, listen to the whole song, he said Jesus, not women... so please ladies and gentlemen people who just got saved, and just accepted your calling, please know your history... ohhh I forgot just so you think I do not know what I am talking about, the great Rev. CL Franklin (for those who do not know, the father of Aretha Franklin, and the equivalent of TD Jakes back in the 50s and 60s before he was shot and years later died from a botched robbery) used to take secular songs and made them into gospel songs also... IJS

I agree with what you said but the flaw in your postulation is saying because James Cleveland did it therefore it is okay for someone else to do it. I'm sure you have heard the saying "two wrongs don't make a right". Even the Bible says don't return evil for evil.
Not in this case, however in certain circumstances, both actions could be wrong. One actions doesn't always justify another.
Allow them to pass the scrutiny of the Word of God. It is He who sets right or wrong not us.
Also Romans chapter 14 and 1 Corinthians chapter 8, Paul instructs how everything we do should be done in view of how it effects the weaker members of the body. If we being strong causes another to stumble we have failed. Now those chapters in their context were about eating food which weaker member might believe to be a sin to eat, but I think you can probably add doing certain acts that won't lead or direct to weaker member to Christ.
I'm glad he is taking the time out to explain before after he sings. Explaining that it's about Jesus and the words should direct to the Lord. Additionally I don't think it was the center of his worship. We must keep in mind that some in the congregation is still too connected with their old life in the world and the song might still be just about the beat and old memories when we were living in opposition to God's will for us.
But personally I loved it!

I beleive it is all how and who you sing it too. What state of mind you are singing in. You don't know that could get that lost boy or girl attention. Whom am I to judge. The bible say let the weet and the tie grow up today he will do the separtion. How spiritual are you you can let a little R&B song disturb your spirit. It may take the Men of God singing R&B and changing it to GOSPEL to get that lost soul.You should be spiritual enough to stay in the right mind and still be saved.
