Mashiba's wider stance let's him shift his weight from his front foot to his back foot, combined with his lanky frame, makes him seem like he has moved back a great distance. His feet don't move, but his body does. He then shifts his weight back forward and uses that to throw a counter. Ippo never looked up to see what he was doing, lol. I see two options for him. Ippo always built a strategy for an opponent and stuck to it and never changed it (if anything he would listen to the Coach orders). Ippo saying "I think I understand" is (literally) the result of all the experience he has gotten while retired, that now is allowing him to evolve physically and mentally during a match.
Loved this chapter, but i think they keep highlighting that ippo has the same style as roasiro but ippo is not a dirty fighter so when mashiba has his title fight it will be so different as he will be doing all typed of dirty tactics.
Ippo's focus in this sparring is to emulate Rosário to be able to help Mashiba as much as possible, I believe there will be situations like in this current chapter where Ippo will throw himself against Mashiba's strategy to see if it will work in the main fight against Rosário, but I also believe that Ippo will try to combat Mashiba's strategies to create a certain difficulty for him.
