Vaux-le-Vicomte is my favorite place to visit in France. The scale is human and perfect. Versailles, while beautiful is cold and impersonal

The Hercules detail appears in front of the chapel of Chateau de Versailles too. I think Hercules was the symbol of Louis XIV himself. I'm not sure if he might be possibly Cretan origin, or he found himself from some parts of the character? It is certainly interesting that his chapel in Versailles is called Herculaneum. I also wonder about the golden apple he hides in his hand, is it something to do with the myth of Paris and his judgment on the most beautiful among the three goddesses? The king had a lot of beautiful women around, perhaps it tells us his particular taste/preferences for the beauty and his aesthetics.

HORROR... IT NEVER EVER WAS MEANT TO LOOK LIKE THIS, BUT LIGHTLY GILT AND SURFACE SCRATCHED TO ACCENTUATE THE SHADOWS AND FEATURES ...ALL STATUES FROM ANTIQUITY ARE LIKE THAT, FOR GOOD REASON, OTHERWISE YOU ONLY SEE REFLECTIONS...

You really have to laugh at rich people problems... 99% of the people on the planet, are forced to choose if they will buy food for their kids this month or pay the electric bill.

@@sebastientremblay1834...oh, is that why. All this time I thought it was all about social STATUS and showing off to the world how rich and powerful you were and constantly competing with other insanely rich people, to have to most expensive art collection, the biggest palace and gardens designed by the latest designer, etc., etc., but according to you, all this time these self entitled, decadent aristocrats, were only interested in trying to make people smile. (Thanks for sharing your incredibly profound and insightful comment.)
