The point you made about fast travel's catch 22 is interesting, but Heat already fixed it. In NFS Heat, you can only fast travel between hideouts if your heat is at 0. If it's at 1 or more then you're SOL and you gotta keep driving. Fortunately for Heat, driving around is a joy. RIP Heat's dev house Ghost. 🥺
@@a.w_. I gotta disagree. I'm not saying it was perfect, but as far as racing game stories go, it was above average and I'd say Unbounds is well below average. Plus I think most of the characters were alot more relatable and realistic in Heat.
The first game that mastered the drift mechanic was Ridge Racers on PS3. Absolutely flawless. Turbo/boost filled up while drifting. The faster you were drifting, the faster your boost bar filled up. So if you knew the correct time to boost (single, double, and triple boost) such that it ended just as you hit a corner, you’d fill up your boost instantaneously drifting at top speed, ready for the next perfect moment to use it. Spent hundreds of hours mastering every corner of every track in that masterpiece.
"Split/Second" was an amazing drifting game that had same kind of mechanics in this game plus Explosions you could set off to take out cars infront of you in the race.
HOW DO YOU PRODUCE THESE VIDEOS SO QUICK!!!!! Seriously with this level of quality editing it should take a month at least to make!! Another phenomenal video Ranton.

You actually made me smile for the first time in years, you restored my faith in humanity. If I had any money after the inflation, i'd give it all to you, so you could continue making this A+++ content.
The nitro mechanic in this game is in fact very reminiscing of the Split Second Velocity gauges system when you manage two blue one and the final red one but when you have the red one unlocked you can't use the blue anymore, of course it's not about nitro but environnemental destruction, still the micro management was also soooo good.
Especially the matchmaking, it should not be limited only to your actual lobby. Because most of the time i end up being 2-3 in the race or even worse i cant even start one...
They could let you fast travel too a race if you have no heat or cash. That way you keep the risk reward of heat, But you also have a little convenience getting back into the action faster after you have just been busted or banked cash.
Honestly I'm in love with NFS Unbound tbh. The only people that seem to complain about it claim that they should've went for the same tone and style as Underground 2 when that game had its set of heavy flaws, rubber banding and a..mixed song list. As if people nowadays don't just listen to spotify while they play. That and I really like the graffiti/anime inspired art style
What?!? A Positive Review?!? Downloaded!!! Thank you Ranton, all these years. Every good for you all day, everyday, every year ... Forever. Insha'llah.
Honestly this just made me wanna play Burnout Paradise up until the moment I saw the people who made Paradise made this. They know wtf they're doing. YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY PLAY BURNOUT PARADISE YOULL KNOW WHERE ALL THESE GOOD IDEAS CAME FROM!!!
The mechanics for dual boost is present in Midnight Club series, slipstream boost and nitrous. This is not new, just not many people played any racing games from Rockstar. Do check it out, it maybe old but still fun.
The fast travel could be solved by having to go to a hideout to fast travel as it would force banking and heat levels to be important but also allow for less in between driving if necessary.
if you enjoyed unbound, you should REALLY try heat. NFS heat was the only NFS game that got me hooked on them again - you have actual things to do, especially in the END GAME. theres parts you collect like in unbound with the *upgrading your garage* shit, but in NFS Heat you get the best parts by playing so called *high heat races*, which you, like the name suggests, can only attend once you have high heat (during the night only) finishing those races gives you a (i think random?) *ULTIMATE+* part for your car - which you also have to bring back to your hideout to fully secure. the money making system is similar, just that doing races during daytime grants you money, and doing races during nighttime grants you Rep (essentially xp) - or reverse, its been a while lol you need both for new cars and parts obviously, but the night races are the more fun ones and theres much more at stake - the cops are much harder at early levels already, where as in unbound, you dont really notice the cops being difficult up until heat 4-5, where the difficulty curve suddenly skyrockets. also, one major *plus punkt* for heat is : you can essentially play the singleplayer campaign stuff within multiplayer. everything you do in SP can also be done within the MP - meaning you see other people driving around, partcipating in your races (or you choose to do them alone vs AI), and you have actual cops in the multiplayer unlike in unbound (which is one major MINUS PUNKT alter) - although ive heard they may add that feature in a later patch. so yeah, you can just do high heat goofing around with your friends which makes the game a lot more fun and opens up so many more possibilites to enjoy the game fully. the grinding for ultimate+ parts is a good addition to finally have a proper endgame, which also make your car just so much better in every way possibly, that its really a good, challenging and not boring thing to go for once you feel comfortable to do so. would really enjoy seeing you play that game and trying it out for a couple of days, maybe not even as a review - i just think you would enjoy it (:
Agreed. It's an S tier game. The best (in my opinion) Need For Speed game ever. Most Wanted, Underground 2, Carbon, etc didn't have post game things to do. The city dies afterwards
Most innovations you mentioned were all included in many 00s racing games already, many of them being NFS games themselves. The burst boost is just a combination of the draft boost from Midnight Club LA and style points based nitro of the NFS Underground games. Of course this doesn't stop Unbound from being a better game for including these features, in fact it just show how much the arcade sub-genre of racing games have regressed since the 00s.
Dude, if you know youtube policies (which im sure Ranton does), you know he got demonetized in the first minute and a half (more than once), and my man still goes on like a chiwawa on crack, 0 filters, pure joy and entertainment, does NOT give a fuuuuck. They should have made the whole game cell shaded. I felt like they couldn’t commit fully to the art style and did a combo of style and realism and I wish they just went all style IMO
That burst meter was in need for speed nitro, glad they bought it back. swapping between the two depending on if it's a straight or i need to get back up to speed in a hurry, feels really nice.
I like how a casual racer figures out the yellow boost mechanics and not the sweaty racers lmfao. you're like the only reviewer that mentions the mechanics. Also I think the entire story is a satirical take on streetracing in general. thats why it seems so pro Street racing. Imo
The fast travel thing could be fixed I think, mind you I haven't played this game. If you have no money at risk every fast travel point is unlocked, you can immediately travel to an event. Then at 20k or more you can't fast travel to those event but you can fast travel to let's say some major and minor land marks. At 50k you can only fast travel to major land marks. At 80k there's only like 5 fast travel points and they're very far in between. Last one at 100k you can't fast travel anymore. Pair this system with money multipliers, the more money you got the bigger the multiplier percentage, and it's golden.
7:20. Catch 22 is extremely easily solved. Many games that have fast travel just simply doesn't allow you to when you're in combat or enemies are near you. Have a system that doesn't allow you to fast travel when you have heat and are being chased. Just one that teleports you near missions (when there is no heat) simple solution.
I love the effects of the game. if anything i was sad they didnt go all out and make the whole game a schellshaded style. it would have made the game look really unique.
devs need to test the waters and see how the community would react to it, and judging by their reactions, a full-on cell-shaded game is unlikely. Unless Criterion went f### it and make whatever they want.
