This song makes me so proud not only to be Canadian, but a caper from Cape Breton, they were born only a few hours away from me on the other side of the island ,I’ve grown up listening to them as a child such good memories around the camp fire with a bottle of rum or whiskey 🥃 I’ve never had the chance to ever see them live unfortunately as I’m only 30 ! If you want to see a bunch of Cape Bretoners go crazy at a pub just play this song and the rest will be a memory!!!
Gotta love the cape. I grew up there like mostly everyone else who commented. I'm from mabou and "mr MacNeil is my grandfather who just passed away 3 weeks ago. He was a legendary man if you heard everything about him
I've grown up listening them, on tapes and CD's and now on iTunes... My parents have actually seen them live a few times. I love the Rankin Family, they bring so much pride and happiness not only to several people but to all of Canada. I think they should blast this on Canada Day!
I saw the Rankin Family live years ago, and after all these years I still think it was pretty much the best concert I ever went to, and this was the best song of the whole night! So great to see live!
@KrayzieCMB it is a shortened name for Whycocomagh a nearby community to where the Rankins grew up, it borders a lake on one side hence "the shores" reference.
@KrayzieCMB you are referring to Ottawa 1995 on Parliament Hill and the vid was removed by the poster 'lbrankinfiles' because the person closed his/her youtube account. The Rankins have a FaceBook account the link is posted there too but does not work.
I'm from the US, and grew up listening to this song... Still love it to this day! ❤
