  • Today, we're going to take a look at a big old knife from Olamic Cutlery, which is both weird and weirdly customizable, the Soloist.

    Ugh, I've recently been sucked into the Olamic tornado. I'm having such a hard time finding a good reason not to get one of everything.
    The customization is just bonkers, and is the one thing that prevents me from scoffing at the price.
    As a matter of fact, it has set the BAR for what I expect at this price.
    If you're charging me over $600, I should have SOME say in what's going on there. The fact that I get ALL the say is astounding.

    I can appreciate the time and level of design in these, but I'm honestly not into them. They seem more on the "display knife" side more than a usable knife. The thumb studs are a cool idea though. Maybe if they did a hexagon instead of a square maybe? IDK, I love the thought of being able to adjust that to your hand and not have to retrain your hand's muscle memory.

    @18:40 -- Or better yet, use a slot-head screw--either a single slot or two at right angles--that will fit the edge of a coin, a slot-head screwdriver, or any flat piece of metal. If you lose your torx bit, or forget to carry one, your out of luck. With this design, you could improvise with a piece of wire bent to fit the holes. These improvised tools might not be good for getting the screw properly torqued, but at least you could tighten it enough to make it usable.

  • @Ice_Berg
    @Ice_Berg 5 лет назад +2

    I think the thumbstud could be improved if the shaft was cut into an octagon(or decagon or something); especially for the slanted thumbstud like on the Mountain King's knife. It would let you hone in on that perfect position a little more without letting it unscrew itself. It even sounds like the kind of customization they could do for people.

  • @johnburns748

    I've never understood why the whole knife industry uses torx, or flat heads for Emerson, when Allen screws and wrenches never burn out or tweak. Two hole security screws always seem so useless on a knife.
