Morning sir thanks for food pyramid and vocabulary drills but one thing I can't understand herbs means green vegetables or including spices
If we were speaking specifically of the food pyramid, then herbs and spices would not show up as a "group" in most charts. In our lesson we were getting away from the pyramid and just talking about different ways English speakers tend to place foods in a group or category. In that case, "herbs and spices" are often talked about as a group of "foods". Foods, not so much because we would eat them by themselves, but because they are plant-based.
You are right, many of the herbs do come from vegetables, but they have usually been dried, powdered or processed in some way so that just adding small quantities to our food when cooking, they add a lot of flavor. When English speakers talk about green vegetables we usually mean picking and eating them fresh without drying or processing.
There are a few exceptions where a freshly picked vegetable has such a strong flavor that it can be added to our foods in small quantities to enhance the taste of cooking or baking, such as chives, basil, cilantro, dill, mint, parsley and tarragon.
Garlic and onions are a good example of something that could be considered a vegetable and a herb, but when talked about as herbs, they have usually been dried and powdered.
The big thing that would make a vegetable become an herb in English, would be whether or not you are using the plant as a main dish on your plate or using small quantities in cooking to add flavoring to your main dish. I hope that helps!
