The automatic stacker is called a teenage son. 😂😂😂
My oldest would pipe up about then and say.. or daughter! And believe me she'd out work my son any day plus Sundays! 😅😅
Not exactly "automatic", & certainly not inexpensive 👌
Back in the day yes, not any more
0:32 not really, they throw fits, rest too often let them minds run off course, and do funky computer stuff all day know everything but know nothing. Hard to motivate and run in snail speed all day
30 min. Then say something about mother unit needing them.
You can get more done by yourself.
@@bobbg9041 Very sad & self-defeating perspective of a group that shall determine your destiny, should the future include a living existence for you.
A sawmill makes an excellent metal detector.
Just like an excavator makes a water line/electrical conduit/phone wire finder.
always find the gas line pretty quick.
In my backyard, the shovel finds the cable drop every time.
I just need a shovel to find a line .
Pick your best guess where the line is and start digging .
When you are past the depth that you should have found the line , move the pile of dirt from the hole because it's under that pile .
Works EVERY time .
A machine to stack your lumber is called a BRUNO, and will soon be available for stacking lumber and running the lawn mower. 😁
My sons worked for a friend with a saw mill. Their job was to go over logs with a metal detector and dig out the any metal they found.
FYI, the machine that will stack your lumber is called an apprentice or a helper. I'll bet you could find some teen kid of a friend or a high school kid or some body that might work for cheap over the summer for some extra cash. you ain't getting any younger and you could pass on a lot of useful info and lessons to a younger generation. Maybe think about it.
Can’t beat a strong young back and a young mind eager to learn. Pretty hard to find in my area. I had some boys for several years but they are now men and have there own places wives girlfriends & jobs
A young strong lad would be nice, but no one wants to work.
@@johnclark5153 that’s for sure and if you find one that’s willing to help they won’t even show up for less than $20-$25 per hour cash & I sure can’t swing that on my project budget.
Great video!
You might think about painting some directional arrows on the arm next to your diverter ( 0:45 ). Just a thought.
Good advice
That’s my motto. “I should have done that a long time ago.”
Nathan, I believe I heard Mr. Kato whimper when you said the new excavator was your "new favorite machine" 😥. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee . 😅🤣😂
If you think things take longer now wait until you get my age Nathan. Just keep going forward sir and eventually you'll get there!
A "bad" day at the home sawmill is better than any day patrolling.
Got that right. Did that for 30 yrs.
@@ericwashburn2740 did it for 22 in various countries.
Amen! Did it for 44 years retired in 2020 best thing I ever did!
@@johnaddis1022 What branch? I am Army forever.
That isn't true, Nathan had good days as a LEO, toward the end he worked as detective, & in rough neighborhood. I feel truly sorry for anyone performing in a job for 20+ years who can say they never experienced a good day on the job .🇺🇸🗽🚔💡🍶
I’m 70 now, when I was just a little fella my granddad would take me to the sawmill on the lake in Post Falls Idaho. Your video brought back the smells I remembered from there, way back when.
Flip the wheel barrel upside down, there is a hole in the axle that you use to insert a rod and stop the shaft from turning. I speak from experience.
I recently found out that the difference between cedar and juniper is that true cedar does not have berries. Both are good woods that are rot resistant but Juniper has the blue berries.
KATO Skidsteer or Excavator would be a hard choice if I had to choose one over the other, after four nails that blade may be scraped. It’s been a long time since you posted your blade set & sharpening setup behind the scenes. I bet some of the new page members would enjoy a peak maybe sometime. Spring has sprung 🤠🇺🇸
A metal detector to check logs before cutting.
You can get brass bushings at ACE hardware to take up the slop that.
good idea,
Indicated a thought to another sawyer. Cut the slabs to provide rough cut on outside and saw edge on the inside. Make them up for homeowner raised beds. Great outside look for the raised beds.
Sometimes the simplest way is best. You should have emptied the cart and just flipped it over. Would have made the wheel changing job way easier, but then you wouldn't be showing off your mini-ex. To each his own. Have a blessed day.
We live in an old Northern Calif Black Walnut orchard. So I bought a mill. I just hit a nail.... not the first. $25 every time....I scoured that 13ft log but one nail was below the bark. A little nail....1/10" but the instant you touch one you know..... Thankfully it's all walnut so the loss is acceptable....
WE use a 2.37 multiiplier for time to complete tasks.
I have to add exponents to the multiplier if it needs a trip to town , and , it always takes at least 2 trips , 3-10 if it involves AutoZone .
on other sawmill sites, they have a metal detector that they scan the log before it hits the mill, it's hand held and you manually sweep the log. I don't know about price but it is probably pricey but so are saw blades. I saw one on the T. H. E. Eddie Horvath & Mark Galicic channel. Love your site, I really enjoy watching you cut lumber etc. and I really like that you explain everything,
I suspect replacing the carbide bits on that 56” circle blade would be a tad more than a Turbo 7 band blade.
I've got one that is 35 years old and the tires are still good and hold air. Love it. I have a Norwood hd36 sawmill purchased 2014.
It’s such a pleasure watching someone who enjoys what they do… thanks for sharing!😊
Loggers never show up on time. Already unloaded one load in the dark this week and another one was on the way when I told them I was going to be out of town for the day and and 3 other loads were days later. We get 3-7 loads a week.
The reason it took you 4 weeks to get them wheels was, it takes them awhile to float them across the ocean. Our weather is like yours here in va. I got a bunch of cedar to mill up. And I got a customer that just hired me to mill up a bunch of black walnut. I get all my blades from Joe Maine. Nails in logs it kills me. I like when there is 5/6/7/8/9 nails in a group like what the heck was they trying to hang up ???
Good job.
Hi Nathan. At 16:20 you mentioned yard trees have more sapwood. Why is that? Thank you for the wonderful videos. My daughter and I love watching your videos at night before bed.
they get more water/sunlight since they don't have to fight other trees for food,
I changed the pneumatic tires on my Rubbermaid cart to solid ones several years ago. No more leaks to patch. A big improvement!
You'll be lucky to get a 4x4 out of the cedars that grow wild around my area with the exception of ones around houses. We used to use them as Christmas trees when I was younger.
Good day at the farm Nathan. Sun up to sun down, never a dull moment!
It sure is
You probably should finish one project, the chicken coop, before you start anything new. Actually that is just like most of us. Love your weather as Mpls going to get about 6” of snow on Thursday which is more than we have had all winter. Love to see all you get into. Take care.
My mother had a 56" diameter black oak fall over because of a storm. i ended up with it and had it sawn up into 4/4. At one point, the sawyer nicked metal and digging it out, it turned out to be a 5" railroad spike. It can get worse.
The wheels may last longer than the cart this time around, Automatic stacker, "Son when you get thru with your meal go out and stack that lumber" what my Grandfather would have said... Be glad you don't have a circle mill, Mark could tell you about metal...But you said you have a metal detector called a band saw blade, guess it worked well this time. Have a great evening. John Toccoa GA
Nathan I've custom cut for 3 different guys this spring, and have hit metal on at least one of their logs, and of course ruined the blades, I'm about done cutting other people's logs. I charge them for a new blade if they're bad enough, but I don't enjoy it as much as cutting my own logs I cut and skid.
Nathan....keep those cutoffs... mulch them up and put them in your pathways between your raised beds... it will help keep bugs down.
I use to sell Amzoil Products 4o years ago as side job.
I have 2 shop sayings that prove to be true everyday. One is _ Nothing is ever easy, otherwise someone else would have already done it. And second - Every job takes every tool I own. Haha.
Cheers Nathan
It’s good to see your putting in a garden I went to raised beds in 2020 out of nessesity there great
Why doesn't Wood-Mizer add a medal sensor on the front to alert the operator of an impending problem. May save a lot of cutting blades.
Temporary delays in shipping are because ships are diverting around the Horn of Africa instead of using the Suez canal because of the Houthis. A new schedule will soon be sorted out.
Good morning Nathan. Just enjoying watching your channel. That skid steer and excavator have really made the difference for you. Along with that sawmill. Have a great day!👍❤️
The Challenge is to finish the Chicken House some time soon?????????? I Bet the Garden will be done and growing veggies before the chicken house is done!!! And maybe the next building started????? Them chicken always being treated as second hand!!!! Buck Buck Ebwak!!!!
Got a suggestion. Why don' t you get a metal detector and that way you can find metal in a log.I do enjoy watching your channel
Nothing like working around perfumes.
Love seeing the trees in bloom in the background. First day of spring.
Planter boxes made with ERC 2x6s will make nice beds and last a long time.
I love raised bed gardening. Once I tried it, I'll never go back to in ground. I got great yield on my plantings, and it was way easier to maintain. I highly recommend installing some automatic irrigation in your beds while your at it. It's simple and inexpensive.
HI N 😊😊 it has been wet here 2 the other week the yard was like a pond water 😮😮 under your feet every where U step and the low spots was even worse as dry as it was last year U would think the ground would soak up the water 💦 😮 and people years ago use 2 use red cedar and pine 4 fences it's not uncommon 2 find fence wire or nails 😮😮 OMG 3 19 2O24
Really enjoyable video Nathan. Thank you for sharing
Omg those logs you sawed at 25 minutes (cedar?) were beautiful.
Thanks 🙏
Thanks for sharing, always enjoy your videos.
you need to get the Bruno model 450 lumber stacker up to the saw mill
That cedar did have some nice color to it but you were right not much good for anything than whet you plan on using it for.
What's great about this Chanel you don't hide your short commings which are few. My wife and I started raised beds 2 years ago and our veggies turned out pretty good PEACE BOBBY.
Good video to watch Nathan, just a great pity about the nails. They must be a source of GREAT frustration to all you guys milling lumber. Cheers, Don from South Australia.
We had a yard tree with a bad crotch in it. I put a 1/2” threaded rod through it to hold it together, and the tree grew around it. When we finally took the tree out I planned to tell the arborist about the steel, but they came and removed it while I was at work. I always imagined the cussing that must have followed after a sawyer hit that rod.
Thanks for sharing with us Nathan, hope you get all the boards out of you cedar for the raised beds you wand to build. Can't wait to see your garden growing. Stay safe and keep up the fun around there. Fred.
From what I was told amsoil is one of the oldest lubricant companies. I've never fact checked that. But 3 of my jobs over 20 years have told me that
I can smell the cedar watching this video. Loved cutting cedar.
I love equipment, but probably would have just turned the wheel barrel upside down to change the tires.
OOPS ANOTHER BUNCH OF NAILS....But part of it as you say.....Thanks my friend Nathan.....
Old man in my 80's Shoe🇺🇸
Not sure what a blade costs, but you can buy a handheld metal detector for between $39 and $170. It would also save you the time needed to change & resharpen and reset that damaged blade.
How is Dad doing, I haven't heard you say much lately about him.
Good 👍
Can’t believe you are going to bury that beautiful wood under the dirt. 😂
Carbide sawblades add time to the resource I cannot change my hours as I change blades five to ten times less and most nails and small bolts do not ruin blade. Carbide cost much more but I gain time by not changing as often and am able to saw through most iron without wrecking blade. When blade life is factored into costs and lower stress on sawmill as blade stays sharp cutting as if new until damaged carbide is a no-brainer and I never need spend time or money re-sharpening.
Nice clean walnut Nathan if they were here in Ireland they more than likely have ivy grown on them
Wow Nathan blacked out wheels cool option!
You’re a brave man removing the wheelbarrow wheels before opening the replacement… my luck it would have been a bicycle tire
That's pretty wood. Smells really good too.
That’s some pretty wood we never have juniper looking like that. If ours had color in it I wouldn’t use it for firewood.
MM77 Approved 👍🏻👍🏻
machines to stack your lumber are called "employees"
Ignoring a problem for 5 years. No big deal.
I've been in my house for 40 years and am Still finding
problems I have been stepping around, for all that time.
You just get used to stepping around things and don't see them anymore. 😁✌🖖
hello Nathan & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool & Thanks Nathan & Friends Randy
Wouldn’t a handheld metal detector and 1 min of time prevent these nail problems?
why didn't you just flip that cart over?
What fun would that be. Gotta add some joy to every job you do, whenever you can.
@@frankvucolo6249 .. LOL.. yeah, sticking your face in chicken poop, that might be fun for you, I'd rather just flip that cart over and make an easy job of it.
Funny !!
Which would you rather have if you could only get one, the excavator or skidsteer.
Sounds like Nova Scotia weather in the Spring, RB.
Thank you so much put the link for Anchorseal so helpful
Sure thing!
Use the excess cedar wood for closet sashets to keep pantry moths out of your closets
Evening 👋 big 35 working nice. Thanks for good video 👍
Thanks for sharing.
27:01 with just a bit more patience, you’ll have a machine to stack your lumber…named Bruno. 😉😆
Agreed 👍
Love those flowering trees!
Don’t feel bad. My train of thought derails at the drop of a hat also. Ever watch Lumber Capital Log Yard? Small family operation in north central PA. They have a LT 70 Wide due to show up this week after running a LT 40 for the past 4 years. Maybe you could offer Emerald and Jade some operating suggestions.
Nathan, another informative video. The reason is your wheelbarrow tires were on that slow boat from China. I quess if you wanted those tires quicker you should have asked one of those immigrants, entering across our Southern border, to bring them along. What about those racing rims?
Does the log grapple for the skid steer work on the excavator?
No really, build those raise beds as triangles. 🤣
Maybe it was the price, but new wheels for that cart are available at Tractor Supply in TN.
Just turn the cart upside down..............................easy
Nice skies out there yup yup
Nathan, hopefully soon, they will come out with a C3PO,
to stack you lumber, for you. Also hopefully, one not as
obnoxiously talkative as the original. 😁✌🖖
Grease the shaft… got it. I blame Farmcraft forvthat
you cou put a copper sleeve on the axle
That's funny a load of logs comes in with painted ends ONE day after Robert Milton's video about Not painting your logs. Lol.
Might be why he pointed it out, I saw the show too!
That is a beautiful color on that cedar, as small as those trees are I was surprised to see nails that deep in the wood, the tree would have been even smaller when someone nailed into them. Sorry about the blade.
Can't you grab two of the smaller cedar at one time?
Very pretty tree in bloom. What is it?
Ouch 😓 !!
