Great car. I have a 2005. I have a hard time calling it a land yacht, simply because I grew up in the 60s and 70s. My uncle had a Cadillac Eldorado, and we had a 76 Electra. If this era Buick is a yacht, that El Dorado was an aircraft carrier.
Do these two additional things. Pull the back seat up and go to fuse panel. Take out fuse to the air ride shocks. You will now have regular ride rear shocks. Saves your battery as you will not be hauling a trunk load of luggage or weight. Also change out the plastic cooling elbows to metal ones. I have a 94 and a 2001. Take care of engine as this is one of the 10 best engines Ever made for giving great low maintenance service. Engine is bullet proof...300,000 plus miles is very common. Last year for this engine was 2006 as GM stopped making it...sad indeed.
Last year for this engine is 2008 in the Buick Lucerne that replaced this car…and I’m sure it’s in other cars of this timeframe …the 3.8 got replaced by the 3.9
Be sure to check the entire under side for surface rust. I used excellent paint product POR 15 on mine. Expensive, but worth it if you want to keep your car on the road for a long time.
These are honestly great cars especially with the bullet proof 3.8l v6 that still gets great gas mileage for a Big V6, My grandfather had one (2004) and I seriously wanted to buy it from him before he traded it in for a piece of junk 2009 Ford Taurus. Just picked up one in burgundy just like this. 2002 with 67K miles. Elderly owned in Sarasota Fl. Only thing it needed is a passenger window motor and motor mounts replaced.
Worked at a Chevy, pontiac, Buick, oldsmobile and gmc truck center as a teen when these were sold new in upstate NY. I always wanted on of these buicks in that color too! Congrats great buy!
I got a 2004 Buick LeSabre (limited model). It's my first car and every time I drive it I love it. It cost $4500 and it's in fantastic shape and had 80,500 miles on it when I got it. It truly is a hidden gem of a car and I hope someday it will be a collector's item! Good video!

I bought one about a month ago and I'm DELIGHTED with it! It's a beautiful red pearl and super clean throughout. I paid $2000 for it and was happy to get it for that. Although it has 120, 000 miles on it, it runs like new and gets 30mph hwy! They are becoming more in demand around here and bringing sometimes 5-7k! Thinking of looking for a spare, but I won't need a spare at my age...I'm 87
You lucky man.. That’s a nice one.. Those engines will go forever.. l got 400.000 miles out of one ..sold it still running ok.. Things do go wrong with them but not major ones. Good luck with this one.. it will serve you well.. 4000ml service intervals will keep it going..
An elderly neighbor of mine had one that she bought in 2004 and rarely if ever drove it, it just sat in her enclosed garage. She wound up in a nursing home and gave me the keys to her house (one relative - son - who lived on opposite side of country) and asked me to drive her LeSabre once a week. I drove it once a week to my job (1 hour round trip) for several years and had hoped I had a chance of buying the car when the inevitable happened. She passed away and the son (as was his right) arranged to have the vehicle shipped across country to him, I helped with the arrangements and he was excited to get it. He then took it to a dealership and was told that even though it had low miles, there was a myriad of issues that had to be addressed due to it being mostly garage kept for 18 years and he wound up spending more than the car was worth to get it what he was told would be - safe enough to drive.
Nice video and review, you got a real gem there. I've got a 1993 LeSabre, bought it in 2018, had 27,557 miles on it. Just turned over 35k, Same mpg listed as is yours. These are fine cars.
I sold my granddads 2004 lesabre with only 50k miles on it😫 before I went to “college” I had to look cool 😎….. bought a stupid jeep and took the car payments that went with it . Wish I never would hAve made that trade.
I've had some very reliable cars, most of them Japanese. However, none had the cache of the Buick LeSabre. Only today do we realize what a great car the LeSabre was. And I do mean GREAT. I've had Toyota's, Honda's, Mazda's, Hundai's .. you name it. But the LeSabre is in leagues above because it's adds comfort, style, and an American flair I love.

Just bought my Son one for his 1st car. Similar story, car immaculate 95 y/o lady stopped driving. $1700.00. Thing rides like a dream and he's safe! ❤ 130,000 miles curious to see how long this car will get him around. 🤔

I have a 2000 Park Avenue Ultra in excellent condition. It too is the ultimate knock around town car, or know I around freeways, back roads, and long trips. People loved these back in the day. I’m sad they went out of production in favor of these spaceship like cars that’s don’t come close to the space and comfort of these.
I have one too. I bought mine from an old lady 8 years ago. The window regulators are an easy fix. It's notorious for these cars to replace them. I've done all but my passenger window (knock on wood)..
Hee Matt. I have a big smile on my face, because of you mentioning me in your movie😁 I believe there is some more damage an inch above the spot you pointed at??? Seems like a 4 by 4 inch spot being damaged?? Nevertheless I love the car. Please do offer it some new engine oil, it can degrade over time. Might be a few dollars, but it will pay off. Maybe the same for transmission oil. Check the spark plugs leads, them being probably 20 years old, I'd replace them as well. Will not to be too expensive in the USA i guess. Talking of expensive, our gas prices here are 9 dollar per gallon, enjoy the Tennessee tarifs😉😜😀 last but not least check the inside of the oil filler cap. If there is no "mayonaise" on it, you might have a real winner at hand. Enjoy the holidays🙂
When a car has been sitting like that for a long time, even if the oil looks clean you should still change it because the different detergents in the oil break down over time and more importantly there's likely some moisture that's accumulated in it because the engine is not sealed. There's always a few intake and exhaust valved open and moisture still gets in and accumulates.
Replacing those lower intake manifold gaskets with medal ones and go with the Dorman upper intake and aluminum coolant elbows should be an immediate upgrade
@@BIGPURM1 Wow, great find! Keep in mind, low mileage doesn't guarantee an excellent car. I did EXTENSIVE work on my 2005 Custom with 72K miles to sand, clean, prep and coat the under side steel parts with POR 15 paint. It's expensive but is proven to work the best to stop rust. I hate rust!!!
Mine has 150,00 and it’s fix weekly. Window motors, rear body module, it’s had the intake manifolds done twice, oil leaks up the butt, and now trans mounts. And it gets if we’re lucky 14mpg in town. It is comfortable though.
You unfortunately probably got one that's not been taken care of...I have a 93 Buick Lasabre that just kicked over 150k miles. Its amazing!!!! It's got red transmission fluid, great engine, leather seats etc. I love it sooooo much....sorry you got one that's not been taken care of before you.
Funny thing about this exhaust system is it's like four different sizes, put my exhaust project on pause right now because the pipe size where the resonator at is supposed to be two and a half inches but it's literally a smidge larger than 2 and 1/2 in so none of the exhaust pipe adapters at the auto parts stores fit it. So yeah unfortunately I have to take the time to bring it to an exhaust shop to swell the pipe up just a smidge so it'll fit. Kind of annoying but hey that's part of working on cars.

I have an '05 Custom model with just under 72K miles and I HIGHLY recommend flushing the entire cooling system with industrial grade vinegar and replacing the orange coolant with the green. Dex-cool orange will eat alum. engine parts, including the heads! I was shocked when I pulled my intake manifold ( due to leaking gaskets) to see what the Dex-cool was doing to the coolant intake runners! Best driving car I ever owned. No regrets.
@@michaelscofield2444 Back before used car prices went crazy high, I paid $3800 for mine back in December of 2020 ( they wanted $4000). Things to check are the top of the engine next to the valve covers for leaks, the top of the dash (inside where the vinyl cover can pull away from the dash board) and especially look underneath the entire car for rust. Also look over the body real well looking for rusted through areas. Go on RUclips and pull up Buick LeSabre 2000-2005 problems for more info. A sagging headliner material is also common. Of course test drive it too. Good luck.

I was thinking about swapping out the Dex-Cool on my 2004 LeSabre for green coolant, but after watching several videos on RUclips and reading articles online, I decided to just drain and refill the existing coolant with O'Reilly Auto's version of Dex-Cool after the upper intake manifold was replaced. People run into problems with Dex-Cool because they leave it in the engine too long (don't fall for that crap about it lasting 150k miles), or they add another type of coolant to it which causes it to gel up. As long as you change it out regularly (every 2 -3 years), it shouldn't cause any problems with your engine.
@@242HP I can only report the damage the orange coolant did to my engine as I personally did the work. The corrosion caused by the Dex-Cool was substantial! Luckily I caught it in time. Good luck with your aftermarket orange coolant, I'll never have it in any of my vehicles from now on after seeing the damage it caused.
How times have changed lol just bought a 2003 LeSabre 83k for $5500 but Florida car no rust and clean so was worth it. Selling my 21 kis Sportage getting out of 18k of debt and no more car payments! So I don't mind paying a premium for what we're getting

I drive a 2016 ram with 5.7. So definitely feel about the gas issue. Lately been thinking of getting a smaller commuter car. Initially thought of a 4 cylinder old Honda or Toyota. But maybe one of these ? Or a town car like I used to have , even tho that's a bigger engine lol
I was seriously thinking of trying to find some kind of hybrid before I got this. But for what this cost me compared to like a Prius or Corolla hybrid. It would have take a LOOOOONG time to make up the savings in gas.
I retired my 2007 Silverado as my daily for one of these. I already drove it out of town and these will get you 30mpg highway under the right conditions. Hands down one of the best daily drivers I've owned.
@@TennesseeMatt A few years back I was making many weekday runs from western NC to LI, NY. I despise heavy traffic, so I would leave very early in the AM and drive until rush hour traffic started. I would park it in a truck stop and park at the back of the lot. I had the limited with the split bench and 6-way power seats. I would flatten them out and have a nice big bed to sleep on while traffic sorted itself out. After 3 or 4 hours of restful sleep I would finish the trip feeling great. The handling is also fantastic, especially after I changed to the heavy duty front OEM struts (Rock auto. $105 for the pair with the updated alignment bolts, delivered). I knew I needed new rear air struts, but decided to change them after the trip north and put them in the trunk. Bad move. I was just 2 hours into the trip when the left side shock blew out while doing 80+ in a gentle right curve. The car fishtailed violently, but held on while I gathered it up thru a couple of over corrections. I continued to a truck stop at slower speeds and changed out both in less than an hour. Those were OEM and $68 for the pair with new air lines and hardware. The Bosch ABS was amazing too. What a car.
Can I ask what you paid for your '02 LeSabre? I bought a 2004 Custom with the Best Seller Package in January with just over 127K miles on it from a used car dealer for $3300. I talked him down from his asking price of $3900 because the gas gauge isn't working (a common issue on these cars). Mine has the same grey cloth seats as yours, but the upper part of the doors and the dashboard are black, exterior is white. I've got some scuffs on both corners of the front bumper. Why can't old people park their cars without hitting things?

very nice car. But 3 years of midwest gravels roads, ice, snow and rain and that underneath will be very rusty. Have 2004 with 330,000 and still running strong. Few minor problems but if you can fix yourself and not get taken by dealers' labor costs will last forever. It could be handed down to your kids' kids.
Well, thankfully as my channel name states, I live in Tennessee and not the Midwest. So this car should be good for at least another 25-30 years. With just regular maintenance.

those items were the first things I checked when I popped the hood. I've got them on my list of things to do eventually.

Ive had my 01' for 9 years now. Paid $3500 for it with 43k miles from the original owner I'm now at 151k and still going strong!

Just as much room and as comfortable as a Town car, a little less horsepower but lighter and a more fuel efficient.
Sold my town car (gas hog) and bought a 2000 Le Sabre. Getting 20 city & 30 hwy! Steers much better than the TC!

How times have changed lol just bought a 2003 LeSabre 83k for $5500 but Florida car no rust and clean so was worth it. Selling my 21 kis Sportage getting out of 18k of debt and no more car payments! So I don't mind paying a premium for what we're getting

I had a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix with the 3800 series II engine and it was great. I'd rather have a LeSabre because that's more comfortable.

We have owned our 2000 limited since 2005. Put 100,000 miles on it. only problem we had was an ignition module went out. $75.00 fix.

I drive a 2016 ram with 5.7. So definitely feel about the gas issue. Lately been thinking of getting a smaller commuter car. Initially thought of a 4 cylinder old Honda or Toyota. But maybe one of these ? Or a town car like I used to have , even tho that's a bigger engine lol
I was seriously thinking of trying to find some kind of hybrid before I got this. But for what this cost me compared to like a Prius or Corolla hybrid. It would have take a LOOOOONG time to make up the savings in gas.
I retired my 2007 Silverado as my daily for one of these. I already drove it out of town and these will get you 30mpg highway under the right conditions. Hands down one of the best daily drivers I've owned.
The LeSabre is a fantastic highway cruiser.

@@TennesseeMatt A few years back I was making many weekday runs from western NC to LI, NY. I despise heavy traffic, so I would leave very early in the AM and drive until rush hour traffic started. I would park it in a truck stop and park at the back of the lot. I had the limited with the split bench and 6-way power seats. I would flatten them out and have a nice big bed to sleep on while traffic sorted itself out. After 3 or 4 hours of restful sleep I would finish the trip feeling great.
The handling is also fantastic, especially after I changed to the heavy duty front OEM struts (Rock auto. $105 for the pair with the updated alignment bolts, delivered). I knew I needed new rear air struts, but decided to change them after the trip north and put them in the trunk. Bad move. I was just 2 hours into the trip when the left side shock blew out while doing 80+ in a gentle right curve. The car fishtailed violently, but held on while I gathered it up thru a couple of over corrections. I continued to a truck stop at slower speeds and changed out both in less than an hour. Those were OEM and $68 for the pair with new air lines and hardware. The Bosch ABS was amazing too. What a car.
With cruise control on I-95, got 32 mpg. Better than some newer 4 cylinder sedans.

Up until I got it, this car had been garage kept its entire life. The undercarriage was beyond pristine for sure!

Can I ask what you paid for your '02 LeSabre? I bought a 2004 Custom with the Best Seller Package in January with just over 127K miles on it from a used car dealer for $3300. I talked him down from his asking price of $3900 because the gas gauge isn't working (a common issue on these cars). Mine has the same grey cloth seats as yours, but the upper part of the doors and the dashboard are black, exterior is white. I've got some scuffs on both corners of the front bumper. Why can't old people park their cars without hitting things?

Yep, this car gets better gas mileage, rides smoother, and has far fewer tech things to go wrong with it. And much easier to work on.
Have a 2001buick lesabre custom can't figure out why the interior lights or visor lights don't come on.

very nice car. But 3 years of midwest gravels roads, ice, snow and rain and that underneath will be very rusty. Have 2004 with 330,000 and still running strong. Few minor problems but if you can fix yourself and not get taken by dealers' labor costs will last forever. It could be handed down to your kids' kids.
Well, thankfully as my channel name states, I live in Tennessee and not the Midwest. So this car should be good for at least another 25-30 years. With just regular maintenance.
