Notice how much of the time you’re just hearing the soloist and the rhythm section…or the soloist with some or all of the rhythm section dropping out. Balances out the intense charts.
The best of the best...I absolutely love the trumpet section sound and honestly the entire orchestra...its just amazing how things put together and yet Maynard on the top always. I'm not even sure if there is going to be another player to match his harizma and unmatchable performance...
And, uh, I say this, uh, with, uh, all the respect due to, uh, a great, and uh, wonderful human ... my heart, and uh, soul, always gets a chuckle, and uh, kick, out of how every sentence, and uh, phrase, ever spoken by the wonderful person, and uh, human known as, uh, Maynard Ferguson, and, uh, I forgot what I was gonna say. .. oh forget it, just enjoy the music and ... long live MF!!!! :-)
Wow! Wow! Wow! I heard him live a few times in the '70s and they were great. I absolutely cannot believe how fast they played Give It One. MF even in his silver years was just as energetic (perhaps more so!) as the youngsters that made the bulk of his band.
@BillSmith-rx9rm the tempo got a tad bit carried away for sure...on the MF Horn 2 version of Give It One, that's Maynard playing all 5 Trumpet parts and he overdubbed John Donnely's lead parts on that album, Alan Downey's lead parts on MF Horn 3 as well and certain parts, but not all of, Lin Biviano's lead on the Jimmy's album. He never overdubbed Stan Mark's lead playing though, ever.
He is the Elvis of the Jazz , and the Maynard of it all .
I love Maynard Ferguson he was I huge influence on me and many other trumpet players I grew up with. He will never be forgotten.
Great Stan Mark!!!!
RIP
Ahi veo a Stan Mark en la trompeta, también un gran lider trompeta, falleció finalizando el 2022😢
