I would recommend the legacy ships for you - Magic, Wonder, Dream, Fantasy. They are much more adult friendly in that the adult spaces are bigger and there are more of them. I don’t have children and love DCL but only the legacy ships.

I appreciate the honesty! We’re going on our first Disney cruise in May. We do have a little so I feel like may be the saving grace. Worst case I will look at everything through his eyes and it’ll be magical. But we’ll see if it’s a repeat thing for us…

We went on a Disney cruise for the first time with our two kids last year and had the best time. We went on the Disney Dream during Christmas time and we found many areas in the ship and on the decks very easily and quickly that were not packed or crowded.

We are childless in our late 20s and have gone on DCL every year since covid reopening. We never cruise in the summer, always while school is in session, since military rates and other special offers are typically offered during those times and are kind of more of a last minute deal. We did go on one Pixar Day at Sea, and it was extremely crowded with lots more kids despite it being in February. But we still had a great time. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We haven’t been on the Wish yet, we are actually going on it Monday. The Dream class ships have the best adult only areas and pools in my opinion, because I’ve already lowered my expectations on the Wish pools.

I appreciate your honestly. I know a couple who have one child (a total unleashed wild child). They go on a Disney cruise at least once a year. I think the biggest problem is over crowding. You should have enough room for everyone to enjoy the activities or to have advanced sign ups for a set number. Honestly there are so so many adult Disney lovers. They really need to offer adult only cruises if they don’t already.

My retirement age parents had a similar review when they returned from their Disney cruise. They complained that the boat was overrun with many more kids than they expected, and there were screaming children running around everywhere they went. Their room was in between two rooms where the people knew each other, and those people screamed around the balconies at each other all day and night. They complained about this but there weren't any other rooms available so they just had to deal with these people screaming the entire time. They also felt that the food was too fussy for them and that there weren't enough simpler options (they don't enjoy fine dining so this probably wasn't a problem with Disney but just their preferences). They've done other cruises that were a third the cost that they enjoyed much, much more.

I believe many of the vloggers are on the Disney media list or trying to get on it. They really seem to highlight the positives and downplay the negatives. We went on a Bahamian cruise many years ago that was just ok and a 2 week cruise to Hawaii; both on the Wonder which is a much smaller ship. There were many days at sea for the Hawaii cruise but the ship wasn't sold out so it didn't feel overly crowded. Have been to the parks many times and much prefer those trips.

I agree with your comment about vloggers playing up specific things to stay on the media list. Which I understand it’s their full time job to sell the dream for Disney. A lot of it is definitely over hyped I’ve noticed that for myself at some of the restaurants in the parks.

I’m so sorry you guys didn’t have a fun time! I just got back from a Disney cruise and Disney world trip. This was my husband and I’s second Disney cruise. We went on the Disney Dream the first time and this last time the Disney Fantasy. I would recommend going on a Disney cruise that’s not the newest ship because I’m sure it’ll be way less crowded and go during the off season (January and February). It’s a lot cheaper too! We’re hoping to go on another Disney cruise next year and do one of the Alaskan cruises! I’m sad you didn’t enjoy your Disney cruise, but cruises aren’t for everyone! I can’t wait for the Disneyland Tokyo vlogs! I’d LOVE to go there! It’s on my bucket list for sure!

I’m so glad for your honest opinion. My husband is not at all a Disney or parks in general person. I dragged him to Disney a very few times, and Universal once. He is like no I’m good you go with the kids. I was thinking ok maybe this is a good medium for him but after this I do not think so and honestly my kids are a bit older and no offense I love my kids but I’m not a huge love being around other kids. Sorry if that’s a mean weird thing to say. Plus they are just so expensive that it’s just not justifiable. I think my kids too would rather just a Disney park vacation. Thank you for being real and honest!

I love how honest you are being in this video!!! I’m sad your experience wasn’t better because you two certainly deserved a better vacation. I know my personality would not enjoy any parts of a cruise. I do wonder if you would enjoy one of those enormous ships with whole shopping centers and parks and casinos 😁(we got your back sir) I think with your motions sickness and dislike of the loudness…. I think an all inclusive resort might be more fun for you. I think there are ones that don’t allow kids… might be more relaxing. I hope you will get to try some other kinds of vacations because since I cannot travel, it’s sure fun to go with you 🥰This kind of video is so important for people planning, thank you for taking the time to make it. 🧡🖤🧡🥰

Hi, there. First time watching you, I agree with a lot of the disney things, and i'm a huge disney fan and sometimes it feels like everything is packed with disney people who've done it a million times
.You should try a MSC Ship in the yaht club, it actually is a ship within a ship feel , so there's only three hundred people rather than three thousand people.
Don't give up on cruising yet. I would try that first and they have a casino.

I went on my first Disney cruise in 2023. A short Mexican cruise on the Wonder. I live in Southern California, so it was way more affordable because I was saved from buying airfare, renting a car, or even having to leave my own car there (got a ride from family).
So, I also watched a lot of videos prior to going. I feel similarly to you in that vloggers and youtubers are truly not honest about the real cruise experience. For example, in the many videos I watched, no one talked about how the Wonder is super shaky. Like your bed in your stateroom vibrates from the ship and jiggles you, lol. The Wonder is super old and small (compared to newer ships), so that was probably it. I still would have gone, but I was irritated no one said anything? Lol.
Otherwise, it was mostly fantastic. I went in May, it was still a bit chilly, so no lines for anything in the pool area and the adult area was not crowded at all. The activities like trivia, arts, crafts, bingo, animation academy were never full. Some of the excursions were sold out, but a lot of them weren’t. I had been to Cabo before, so I stayed on the ship and it was mostly empty.
I will say that you can feel a lot of movement on the Wonder, especially in the front of the ship where the gym, show theater and gift shop are. There were times when it was really going up and down 😅
The elevators are tiny and extremely slow. I mostly took the stairs because I wasn’t patient enough for the elevators, but I’d imagine this would very sad and disappointing for someone with mobility issues who is unable to do stairs. You’d spend half the cruise waiting for the elevators and then when half of them do arrive, they’re full.
The sail away party was so loud and crowded. I didn’t like that one. Pirate night was also super loud and crowded, but I planned ahead and got a good spot for it, so enjoyed it more. The stage shows were great! We also had Frozen on our ship and it was very good and very fun!
The staff was excellent. The housekeeping made the room really fun and silly every day in the sweetest possible way. I bought some Chip and Dale cruise plushies and they were up to new hijinks in the room every day 😂
Weighing the pros and cons, I’d probably go on another one. Big thanks as well to you and Jesse for making this honest video because I would really like to experience Castaway Cay and this info will help me choose a ship if/when I decide to try and go and help me set my expectations accordingly. That being sad, I’m so sorry for your poor experience. Everything you’re saying is valid and also would have bothered and frustrated me.

My husband and I took a 4 day cruise when the Wish first started sailing. We went on a Merry Time Cruise. I 💯 agree that this is not a cruise for couples. My husband and I do have kids but they are all grown so we are pretty much empty nesters except for our 2 cats and dog. We have become accustomed to not having small kids around. So we enjoy our peace and quiet now 😂. Your husband sounds like mine; he was looking for a casino too. Oh and he got yelled out by a lifeguard at Castaway Cay because he took off his life jacket to swim to the bottom of the ocean to get me the most perfect seashell 😂.

Thank you for your honest review. My husband is not a huge Disney fan, but we do love cruising, so I'm trying to prepare him for how different it will be. We booked a Disney cruise out of SoCal for spring next year with my SILs and their families. So we will have kids to "justify" us being there (even though I resent having to feel that way). I'm a little worried since it's going to be their first cruising experiences too. Normally, I'd say don't give up on cruising, but if you struggle with motion sickness, maybe not. Just like in the parks, I wish there were adults-only days or cruises; I would totally pay extra for that. I do think cruising is most fun with groups, so maybe if you ever give it a shot again (doesn't sound like you will), go on a non-Disney cruise, maybe Virgin (adults only), and enjoy the casino and drink package. Not letting newbies make reservations ahead of time is no bueno and really a dumb move on their part.

Ive done a lot of cruising and finally couple years ago we did our first disney cruise and i had some fun but i do agree at the prices it cost with these disney cruises and the fact that you dont get the perks that of people who have cruised several times before get to do makes it a bit unfair. that cruise cost me just as much as them and although i understand they should get some perks its not fair that they get ALL the perks. so at the pricing point id probably take my money elsewhere on a trip, but i am glad i got to experience it

I did my first cruise in Europe this year. In general I would say it was "okay." I am mid-50s with no kids and no spouse so I was on my own. I felt the same about the adults only area. Any time I walked into that area it just felt too crowded for me. I never ended up putting on my swimsuit at all because the pool is so small and i am not a hot tub girl. The dining was uncomfortable for me too. I was seating with another single lady as well as a pair of other ladies. Those two ladies didn't speak to us (fine) and the other lady was so soft spoken I could barely hear her when she was talking to me and she spent a lot of time staring at me while we ate. I ended up eating in my room or at the buffet the rest of the time. It was just awkward. Palo was one night and it was FANTASTIC. I would do that one every time if I ever went again. I didn't have trouble getting excursions but I did pretty basic ones, mostly just walking tours of the towns we were docked in. I went to a couple of the "activities" and agree they were pretty crowded and the arts & crafts weren't things I actually would ever want to do (I say this as I am sitting in my craft room crafting... I was a disappointed crafter on the boat. lol) The kids on the ship didn't really overwhelm me thankfully. I am likely never going to do it again. I won't go to Florida right now so options for cruises are a little hard and I think I just like going to the parks better.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't have a magical time. If you ever do give it another try I would recommend their classic ships, The Magic or The Wonder. Or even The Fantasy that has larger adult areas. But The Magic and The Wonder are both charming and typically don't see the crowds that their newer ships do. Part of this is just because it was new for you and I think you fell into some basic "first time cruisers" mistakes. We love a snorkel and bike ride on Castaway Cay too. While the Cabanas are lovely (and expensive) they are Not easy to get unless you're either a top tier cruiser or staying in one of their super Deluxe or concierge level suites as they always hold back a number of them for those cruisers. While I liked the cruises we've taken, I have to say I'm a park girl at heart. ❤

I was very on the fence about a Disney cruise but I feel you guys have pushed me off! Thank you! I adore Disney but I don’t think this would work for me at all as the crowds wouldn’t work for me and I am not used to children so I think the noise would really bother me
I have been on one cruise before, it was a Royal Caribbean from NYC to Bermuda - I loved Bermuda - so beautiful! But I was on the cruise on my own, I feel it would’ve been more fun with someone else. I did meet the American people every evening for dinner which was nice but I think it general I would think twice about doing another cruise
I’d fly directly to Bermuda from the U.K., or via NYC or wherever
I’d personally not do a Bahamas/ Castaway Cay combo as I can’t swim and I think that would be a major disadvantage at the Cay - so thanks for going to see the Eric statue so I could see!

Oh yeah, it was a very, very loud ship. If you don’t like crowds and don’t like being around so many people go on a river cruise where there is only 100 people or so versus a massive Disney cruise. Disney cruises are truly massive and very popular and so many people want to go on the ships and will be on the ships. The ships are made and meant to carry and have thousands of people on it not 100 people on it.

I've always thought it strange that first time cruisers are basically bottom of the barrel. I understand that they want to reward loyalty, but don't they also want to make first time cruisers repeat cruisers? The way to do that is to set them up to be able to experience the things they're most excited about. Maybe what they could do is to have a booking window for 1st timers before everyone else, but limited to 1 or 2 booked experiences per day. Anything else they want to book is done after the other Castaway Club groups have their booking windows open.

He didn't like dressing up, but he was the first to tell me that, So i guess i'm not going on a cruise. I'd rather go to Tokyo for the first time, or back to Italy, or Universal (again) for simular price... I hate people who are like "yea it's our 20th time ba ba ba....I did go on a Royal Carabian cruise, and that DID have a casino if that's what your into, also RC does tend to be more adult then the others. It felt like i was the youngest one there at age 21
You might have a better time on RC or Vergian you will need to be 21+ so that helps with the "No kids allowed" problem And Ik how much you love drag, they do have a drag show! I think your husband would like the latter more....because it IS 21+ and would help with the crowds. The one and only time i ever went on a cruise was RC I'm itching to go on a nother one, but maybe not Disney....I dont like the "people soup" feel

As season older adults, childless, not from FL DCL cruisers, you made a lot of rookie mistakes 😢 In my opinion you picked the wrong ship class and itinerary. Nassau is always considered a sea day then that makes the ship crowded😢 The Wish class ships has a lot of unpopular changes compared to the classic/Dream classic ships. Unfortunately we all have went thru the pain of being new/silver level, even as gold level we also have trouble booking extras😢 For room service again has changed alot since Covid👎🏻, but can drinks or fountain drinks was never included in room service. Sorry you didn't have a good experience but remember when you first did Disney you probably made a lot of mistakes then and have learned from them. Thanks for sharing 😃🚢

It’s nice to hear that you enjoy Disney Cruising as childless adults! Yeah, we made so many mistakes. That’s why I was frustrated at the vloggers I watched as usually I can use their advice and make more educated decisions, but we really floundered this trip. It’s unfortunate to hear that even you all have difficulty with booking extras and you’re seasoned Disney Cruisers. Wish that system was a bit different to allow others to experience more things. For us when we started going to Disney and we made lots of mistakes it still felt like a fun experience and a place we want to go back to. I don’t know if cruising is worth another try for us.
