I paid $2K for 2003 Camry a couple weeks ago with 197K on the odometer. Runs silent and smooth. Drove it 400miles already and only used half a tank of gas. This is absolutely validated in my experience. It's yet another one of those 'CarsThatLast'! Great video, sir.

I had a 1996 Toyota Camry and not only did it SURVIVE my driving, it SURVIVED an ahole semi on the freeway that had cut me off on passing lane and giving my hood a white stripe and trouble opening and closing it from then on without a lot of force, but it even GOT me 179m/288km to my destination.. and with NO OIL in it, as I found later! Hadn't worried since I had gotten the oil change at some time BEFORE this trip! It was a beast! Unfortunately, a second ahole semi totalled her, forcing me almost into the guardrail during construction when we were all prompted to change lanes away from the shoulder they were working on, and was even dragged a little in front of it, then forced into the left lanes, and Jesus He saved my life that day, I'm Grateful and Blessed! I survived and happily seen the guy ticketed mighty heavily! It was WELL OVER 321,868km/200,000m and bought it for €695.70/700$. Best vehicle ever!

I have several Panthers. They're great cars, but of course they have some things that need attention every 12-14 years like the air suspension air bladders($100 total and put them on yourself) and a new intake manifold on 1996-2011 modes every 12-13 years and you can do this yourself for $200-$250 and do the oil filter adapter gasket at this time also for $17.
Watch the oil level and Panthers can burn oil from the valve stem seals, especially on 1992-2002s.
These Panthers hold up cazy well and my 03 Grand Marquis LS Ultimate has 270,000 miles and the only things since new is 1 intake manifold, 2 new rear air suspension bladders, and a new lighting control module was free under recall.

I love and appreciate the late 90s to early 2000 cars. Now that I’m older and so are the cars I can actually afford to buy the cars I loved as a younger person. It’s a joy to now be able to afford and pay cash for a beautiful Lexus LX, GX, LS, and SC. Not to forget their Toyota sisters Land Cruiser, Sequioa, and 4Runner. The problem I’m having is picking which one to buy! I feel like the kid in the candy store. Thanks for all the great info backed up with real researched data and stats. I’m so glad you are getting so much joy doing these videos bc I am loving watching them. Congratulations on such a successful channel. Being a female I’ve been thinking about doing videos about cars geared toward the woman driver. I know so many women who never even looked under the hood of the car and they feel intimidated by all things auto related. I might try it out. I’m not a genius gear head but I’d have fun researching the topics I’m less sure of. Any tips and thought would be welcomed. Thanks so much!!!

I bought a 1998 mercedes c230. 2 owner with all service records for $2400. I would not recommend this car unless you can work on it yourself. Which I can. It’s a pretty basic benz so not super fancy. But safe and durable. Just too expensive to have a mechanic work on it For example I found a receipt for new motor mounts on the car at around 75k miles. It cost the previous owner almost $600 to have them replaced. It was time to do them again the car has 164k now. I bought them on EBay for $69 and changed them in an hrs time. Soooooo if I were you the 98 4 runners are good. Very reliable. And of course the cars in this video. Especially the Avalon.

Anecdotally, here in Maine I see an incredible number of the 3.8 Buicks,. Far more than any other American vehicle of its generation. Also, there are many many many 90's Camrys.
I think a good rule of them for figuring out what is reliable for older vehicles is to notice the ones of from the 90's that aren't surprising to see.
Or from an opposite approach....you'll certainly notice a 1995 Neon driving passed you because it's so uncommon.

I also have a 2013 with the newer 3.6 liter engine and it has 365,000 but i can tell this one may barely make it to 400,000 too much electronic stuff in it. So i highly recommend them. This was her second car, her first one was a 1990 Ford Tempo, it did the exact same thing. After the taurus broke down she got a 2004 Toyota Corolla. Had zero issues over the 6 years they had it. They had to sell it in 2010. Right now she drives a 2017 Honda Odyssey. She said she will never go back to a Ford again.

I've never been a fan of GM's Series II 3800 V6's (the newer Series III 3800's are better), I always felt they were over-hyped. They almost always need intake manifold gaskets which normally allows coolant/oil to mix internally (I've seen some leak externally too, but usually it's other way around which is worse)... Mass Air Flow Sensors, Crankshaft Position Sensors, A/C compressors, "TheftLock" engine immobilizer issues, and a few other little naggy parts of the 3800's also have high failure rates and overall make owning cars with those engines kind of miserable long-term. Best things about them are gas mileage, low end torque (when they run good), and that they're fairly easy to work on/cheap to maintain. But since the Series II 3800's are kind of needy & most of the cars wrapped around those engines were poorly built anyway, I just wouldn't recommend any of them.

In Europa Honda s , set aside their Rover adventure , that not comply to reliability either - are not known for durability. Brands like volvo and some merecedeses are. But spending only 2000 dl, i d not be 'brand oriented' Any problem can occur with very old cars, also you can be lucky, it happens. Mindset ' be prepared for problems. Handa is known for fast cars here ie. Civic type R and legend 3,5 that is very competent, where vw derivates are expensive mostly, and can be gotten longer or armored. But, well..who needs that.

My mom has a 2001 Honda Accord Ex with 250,789 with the 2.4 vtec engine and it’s still going strong nothing wrong with it but the seats are in need of replacing so I’m going to do that and she used to have a 1997 Honda Accord with 411,190 miles but the transmission finally went out she always had to shift the gears even though it was an automatic like it’s complicated 😂

@@emeyer6963 yes ive heard that but a taxi company i use, they use a lot of mid 2000 taurus 03 and up. And they are pretty dependable. One driver told me that his taurus had over 300,000 on his, at the time he told me this his transmission was going out but he was still driving it.
