- Pukol can be dated back to one of the oldest native games among children in the Visayas. Pronounced as Pokoi in Aklan, Capiz, and Pukol in other parts of Panay, it means striking or bumping against each other. The game is usually played by children at the riverside or the seashore while or after bathing.
Dancers of this folk dance use coconut shells that they strike together rhythmically in time with the music. The rolling of the body on the ground is to depict the agility and suppleness of the male dancers.
This video was produced by the Provincial Government of Capiz through the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office for the Saot Capiz: Capisnon Folk Dance Competition (Showcase Component) featuring the dances researched by Jose Balcena and Nydia Punsalan, as one of the activities lined-up for the Celebration of the Capiztahan 2022 - the 121st Founding Anniversary of the Civil Government of the Province of Capiz.
