Just wanted to hop in the comments to say that I've been liking your videos. They are quite chill and calming, and it's lovely to see a foreigner's perspective on various Latvian things. Hope you continue making videos soon! Love from The Netherlands :)
Awww it's so cute how your Latvian husband who was raised in Latvia has a British accent. Thanks guys, interesting to see you both and to share your story.
Such a lovely couple, please do more videos and you definitely get very, very rich :) Btw, Rihards, originally is Germanic name. Latvians traditionally use a LOT of old Germanic, Scandinavian names (there was huge Scandinavic influence before written history (there're sagas, rune-stones in Sweden etc) and Germanic period from the early 13th century) spelt slightly differently, how it was pronounced by the locals. As a student of Latvian language, you know that every masculine noun (ending on a consonant) in Nominative case has -s added to the ending, so if it was John, it would be Jo(h)ns or actually Džons in Latvian. Ri(c)hard actually means "brave ruler", derived from the Old German elements rih "ruler, king" and hart "hard, firm, brave, hardy". But there are really Latvian names, such as: Līga (there used to be a goddess and you know that is the name of the Summer solicit, Līgo-masculine), Laima (Luck-female, there was a goddess Laimdota-"giving luck", masculine name Laimdots), Dzintars (Amber-male), Dzintra (Amber-female name), Saule (Sun-female), Namejs (name originates from a Semigallian (old Latvian) chieftain in the 13th century of the same name, the meaning is unknown to me, there is a famous traditional ring signifying him though), Kurbads (masculine- a particular figure from mythology), Sprīdītis (masculine-another figure from Latvian mythology), Imants (masculine-from the old Livonian (one of the tribes living in Latvia, Finnish people, they're almost gone today) language -im meaning "miracle" added to and meaning "gift"), Viesturs - masculine, derived from Latvian viesturis "hospitable" and there was a famous, near mythological chieftain in central Latvia in the 13th century etc. In general, if you google Latvian Mythology or old gods, you find quite a few really Latvian (old) names, in a few words :)
Are you coming back to youtube? Hope you and your familly are doing ok - if not still your fan base can support you in tough times. Also you dont have to if you dont want.
I'm interested to know the area / village you are living in as the outdoor shots seem quite rural. My family and I are looking at a year in Latvia in 2024 (wife is Latvian descent but grew up in Australia) and are exploring the best area to live where we can enjoy a rural feel, but be close enough to Riga to travel by bus/tram/train. Cheers.
He thinks it happened subconsciously, began doing a British accent to sound more ‘normal’ around people England 🤷♀️😂 I think it’s funny, he has a Latvian accent when he’s speaking English to other Europeans
@@mean_and_talll most latvians are embarrassing when they talk English using a lots of Z (we all know that there is almost no words in English that start with Z) i worked in ireland 14 years.but im trying talk like most Americans do. For me understand an American is just as easy as latvian.but irish.brits? I must concentrate and really listen into that one person who's talking.not to mention Scottish who i understand "maybe" 5 %😁😁🖖
You’re such a lovely couple and please guys no offence, but WHY? The rest of the world is moving from 3 world countries to Europe where the money is. I’m from Latvia and I moved to France, but who the hell does the opposite? It blows my mind haha.
I'm not sure how long ago you moved away from Latvia, but I'd say that current times make me feel optimistic about Latvia's future. I myself moved away to The Netherlands for studies, so I'm not bashing you for moving away, but still. A nice country to live in these days.
Well they probably got decent amount of money from living in the UK and since Latvia has way cheaper living than UK they decided its best to move back here. Also societies are kinda crumbling in places like UK and France where there is alot of tensions between the different cultures and ethnicities which is not that big of a problem in Latvia at least for now.

Hi there, we live In Aizkraukle’s novads, it’s about an hour and half from Riga :)
Try Tērvete or Sigulda. A lot of beautiful nature and only 40-50 min from Riga.
Thanks for the replies!
How do the locals in Aizkraukle region perceive the fact that you speak English but look like a local? :D
Vai ne? 😆 Definitely looks just like a local girl. Might be mistaken for one of those Latvians, who grew up abroad.
Me and my partner came down to a name we each liked and we flipped a silver coin to decide.
call him Pēteris. it is also an English name Peter. or some other international name.
Strange to see latvian dude having british accent 🤔🤔🤦♂️

Unless there is some serious reason…. Why tho?
