      Just bought a new one myself, XLE. I was previously driving a 1991 Corolla which I had driven for the past 10 years and I knew that little car inside and out. The jump in technology was mind blowing even to me and I'm only 28!
      Definitely not used to having all these settings and options, my old car only had a cassette player haha. I'm able to build a computer and get it running, but my new car confused the heck out of me lol.

    After driving a Dodge truck for 15 years, I bought a 2024 Toyota Rav4 XLE. I knew I would have a learning curve, since I was so used to a vehicle where I controlled everything, and nothing was automatic. The salesperson showed me all the buttons and went through the settings quickly, but I knew I would never remember them all. I sat down with the manual, but I knew there had to be a better way to figure everything out. When I discovered the video, I was delighted. All the buttons on my 2024 seem the same on it as in this video, so I found it extremely helpful.

    Oh one thing you could go over for those of us that are new to push-button start is how to put the car in ON mode but with the engine off, and also in accessory mode. I like to sit and listen to the rest of a song sometimes when I arrive somewhere and I didn't know how to do that. But, you can put the car in neutral, push the stop button, then put it in in park and it leaves it in accessory mode.

    • @brianruperti
      @brianruperti  2 года назад +9

      No neutral needed. Just press start button one time without stepping on the brake.

    • @katietatey
      @katietatey 2 года назад +3

      @@brianruperti Ah yes for starting out in accessory mode! I meant when stopping if you want to switch from driving to accessory mode. I think the neutral then power button then put it in park is the right way, right?

    • @brianruperti
      @brianruperti  2 года назад +1

      Ahh I get what you are trying to do. Yes some of the Tacoma and 4runner people do this but I’ve never tried it because I don’t like to shut down in neutral and then park it with engine off.
      I do not know if this can over time cause any type of issue so do it at your own risk but that should do what you’re trying to do.
      However, I would consider scouring the internet for info on a software flash that might exist to keep the radio on when shut down. (I totally get it, I like to finish songs too- I just leave my engine on to finish, not efficient, but it is what it is).
      Let us know if you find any useful info on this topic! But yes for now, the neutral>off>park trick works from what I’ve heard. Never tried it.

    This is the 5th time I am watching this video. Forgot the owner's manual, I'll read it later. This is so informative and easy to understand. I do want to mention something about the keys. The keys comes with a small tiny tag with numbers on it. Take a picture or note down the numbers somewhere safe. If you ever lose your keys and need a replacement, they should be able to make a new key for your car using the numbers. Very important because I didn't know until our salesman told us. I would have tossed it somewhere and forget about it.
    I love my new rav4 if it would stop yelling at me during the lane assist tracing. Lol. It keeps telling me I tend to go to the left while driving. Opps. 😂
    Thank you Brian for the wonderful and helpful video.

    Great video. Thanks for your time and dedication. I only wanted to add one thing that I didn’t see on the video about the “- Res” functionality. You mentioned what the “-“ was for, but not the “res” part. It basically brings you back to the predefined cruise speed after hitting the breaks (I think it also works after clicking cancel, but I can’t remember) thanks again for your time, it was a great video.

    This is just what I needed to figure out my 2022 auto high beams! When I first tried them I saw tutorials about pushing stalk, turning stalk to high beams etc and people were flashing their lights at me
    😮 oops. I gave up. Actually decided to read manual which said same thing you did. Just push the A button! Really good to get confirmation on this.
    Love the Hold button esp for those long Costco gas queues.
    Rear vent is very confusing. Logically I’d think if light is on (like defrost buttons) you’d think that means it on.

    Thank you for this tutorial. I got quite a lot of useful information from watching. I just purchased my 2023 RAV4 AWD Hybrid XLE premium and I have noticed that the screen on the infotainment screen turns to dark/night mode when there is even a hint of lower outside lighting. I find this distracting. How can I adjust this so the screen stays bright until dusk and/or going thru a long dark area and doesn't keep switching back and forth between light and dark screen during daylight hours and/or when I just travel thru and overpass. Your help with this would be much appreciated. Thank you

    • @brianruperti
      @brianruperti  2 года назад +2

      Thank you. There are a couple diff reasons this might be happening:
      1.) your lights are on auto but your brightness setting to the speedo is set at the brightest setting (turn the speedo brightness down just before the locked position)
      2.) your auto headlights sensitivity needs adjustment (for some reason was adjusted too sensitive). Go to the black Toyota app, hit settings>general>vehicle>lights> *and you should see adjustment for auto headlight sensitivity in there. Turn that sensitivity down.
      3.)You actually don’t use auto headlights and you have them turned on manually and it’s confusing the sensor on your dash (not likely but a wild guess)
      4.) you keep objects like clothes, stuffed animal, book on your dash and they are sometimes covering the light sensor in your dashboard. This little light sensor is a round dark colored dome on the dash right up front on passenger side (about the size of a large marble) and that shall never be blocked.
      Let me know if any of these help! The car def shouldn’t be going bright and dark over and over again so this will get figured out.

    Do you know if there is any way to turn off the chime for someone unbuckling their seat belt (a passenger). My large dog sometimes has either stepped on to unclip the rear seatbelt which I leave clipped in because I have a small dog in a car seat, OR, he leans on the front passenger seat in such a way that the car suddenly thinks there is an unbuckled passenger there, and the chime for that is REALLY loud and goes on for maybe 2 minutes? It is very distracting while driving and I'd love if it just flashed a warning or maybe one beep, but the loud beep going on and on while I'm on the freeway is more concerning to me than the seatbelt getting unclipped. I have put in special seatbelt things that prevent him from unclipping the rear seatbelt, but I got the chime warning again after that and I think it was from him leaning on the front seat.

    Brian, I know I asked you before about the Beep after the start up. I was told to wait till I hear the beep before I put my Hybrid Rav4 into gear but you said once the screen says Ready I can put it in gear. IF that is true what is the Beep for?

    • @brianruperti
      @brianruperti  2 года назад

      That’s fine those are just the chimes that go off to let you know you’re started up. Most cars will chime 2-4 times, depending on the make, once they’re started up.
      As far as waiting for the beep I haven’t heard that. I usually start a car, buckle up, set the lights for conditions, set the AC for conditions, check my surroundings, and head out.
      The 30 seconds or so I take to do my “pre-flight checks” is plenty of time for any vehicle to be ready to roll.
      In an emergency, the second that ready symbol is on, you’re good to go. But I am not an advocate of start-and-go. I always err on the side of giving the car 15 seconds or so just to wake up and get systems moving. That’s just me!

    • @3636lk
      @3636lk 2 года назад +1

      @@brianruperti It's not the chimes it's the Beep that beeps after about 30 to 45 seconds after you push the start button. It must beep for a reason. Keep in mind its the hybrid.

    • @brianruperti
      @brianruperti  2 года назад +1

      If it’s cold out where you are, it could be the icy road warning. A snowflake symbol may pop up by the outside temp. That’s the only other thing I can think of at the moment.
