Fizz's throat would have been damaged in the fire. So not only would his voice have broken as he got older, it's all raspy from the burns.
This probably plays into him learning sign language, if he had his cybernetic arms before his throat healed (not wanting a new voice box unless necessary).
The explosion might've also damaged his hearing, which would also factor into needing to learn Sign Language.
@@karlthorkildson4650 In addition, take note of the deaf imp child. Their horns are damaged too. In animation NOTHING is accidental. Horns are heavily implied to be crucial to Imp biology for hearing. you can learn to ovecome it, just like people with hearing damage to a degree, IRL.

@lyrebirb83 Well, they're definitely important for _something,_ as we could see a glowing substance inside of Fizz's horns that faded out when they were shattered -- whether that's connected to the race's senses isn't clear, but it wouldn't have been shown if it wasn't _important._ You're right in saying that, in animation, _nothing_ is accidental.

The picture where Mammon was "tying Fizz up," he was actually on a scale that said, "Heavy!" on the bottom, and Mammon was measuring Fizz's waist and height. Basically a representation of the unrealistic body standard Mammon had for him. Like when he said, "People like them skinny as fuck!" after saying he was looking a bit "chungo."
While that piece of shit is in the shape of a freaking Christmas tree...love to hate Mammon
For the dressing room scene: a headcanon I read once and instantly accepted is that Oz knew to check on Fizz because Blitzo texted him to do so, because Blitzo knew Oz could get through better than he could. Tag-teaming watching out for their boy; I love that idea.
In regard to the Shorts: watch the first one at any time, wait for the second one until after you are caught up to avoid a very minor spoiler. I enjoyed this as always, looking forward to the rest.
@morfy42 With the exception of 'Queen Bee', every episode, short and music video has apparently been released in chronological order -- so the first short should take place in between this episode and next, and the second happens after S2E9 (as will the third and fourth, I'd wager).

After this is the music video "just look my way" which is canonically next in the storyline. Then the first short, hell's belles, which has no current plot points, then episode 8, then 9, then the second short.
I agree that it's pretty impressive how Brightman can sing in-character and in-voice as Fizzarolli. There's zero chance nobody's mentioned it on at least four other episodes, but if you haven't looked up any recordings of him doing Beetlejuice on Broadway, you should do so, because it's just as impressive. Not just anybody can do that without shredding their vocal cords, but he's just got a quirk or something!
It's a particular technique! It's not involving his vocal chords so he's not risking to damage them, it's called ventricular phonation (yes I had to look it up 😂).
During convention panels he sometimes speaks like Fizz or Sir Pentious and it just cracks me up to hear him suddendly change his voice so much :'D
You're absolutely right, Klown B*tch is a banger! I've had the "full version" from Sam Haft on repeat on Spotify and I hope they'll come out with the full version with the actual singers eventually. We really need an official Helluva Boss album, the songs are just to good to "waste" them

Sir, you are plenty good enough. The commentary is exactly why I watch these videos, please for the love of god, please, keep talking. I watch these to hear your thoughts and what you have to say about a scene or the animation. It's a one sided conversation, sure, but what you have to say is interesting, and often makes these unique! You are likely your own worst critic.
Can we acknowledge how accepting Asmodeus is of Fizz?
Fizz said he needs to be perfect, and Oz doesn't placate him, he says "You're not perfect; nobody is!" During their musical number, Oz says "I think you're messy, but I'm messy too".
He keeps trying to convince Fizz that perfection isn't something to strive for. That we all have flaws. Oz has probably been trying to turn Fizz against his obsessive perfectionism for years. What a great partner.

I feel like I'm saying this on every goddamn review of this episode, but have you considered that *sometimes* people actually learn sign language *not* because they're forced to by trauma but because they want to talk with people that are deaf or hoh?

@@Razkovniche Mostly because I don't really buy that he would loose his voice and/or hearing longer than it would take for a *circus imp* (literally the second lowest class in Hell), working for a greedy asshole like Cash Buckzo, with so far no signs of having parents, to get advanced robotic prosthetics that have to be designed for him, surgically attached, integrated and *paid for.* I'm sure we'll find out more about that time in his life in later episodes, but right now I highly doubt that the advanced prosthetics he has now were just handed to him right away.
But frankly, also because it feels like a lot of fans just want to connect sign language to trauma, and happily ignore the character's canonical injuries to that end. It kinda reeks of the teenager instinct to always make everything grimdark melodrama, like that asinine theory that the hellhounds at the pound were going to be executed if they weren't adopted before turning 18. It's just angst with no traces of logic.
@@helenanilsson5666 I hope we do find out more about Fizz's life before he met Blitzø again, if not in future episodes, then maybe in a short or something. I prefer a canon answer to things, especially for characters I like. Whatever canon says about him knowing sign language, I'll accept. I'm happy to see it appearing in more media these days.
And yeah, the "hellhounds are euthanized" one IS kinda ridiculous. Sure, they're in Hell and it's awful there, but I thought it was more that they just get tossed out to fend for themselves as soon as they age out. I just roll my eyes and keep scrolling when I see it come up. It's usually not worth fighting with people over headcanon.

This is the last bit of happiness you’re gonna get and till probably a new episode comes out. It has two episodes after this, but it’s like oh my gosh I am dead after those.
Another episode, another running train of thought as we go, I guess:
- There's definitely similarities between Mammon's vibes and Adam's, though insofar as I know, it's a coincidence. They're just both egocentric fretwankers with overt _Beetlejuice_ parallels.
- The Imp that Mammon grabbed out of the audience looked like a young Wally Wackford, the hapless 'entrepreneur' who keeps making appearances in the series working assorted jobs.
- All throughout this episode, we get to see a side of Fizz that he's kept masked for years: _he's insecure about how people see him._ His upbringing in Blitzø's family's circus, being held up as the crowd favorite and the star of the show by Blitzø's manipulative father, would've instilled in young Fizzarolli that he's only _valued_ as long as he's _popular,_ and that he needs to maintain this facade of perfection or else he'll be tossed aside like he's _nothing_ -- he was never treated with any inherent value by anyone but Blitzo growing up, so he struggles to recognize his own worth _now._ (Ozzie can clearly see how much of a challenge it is for Fizz to value himself without having concrete validation, which is probably a major factor in why he's supported Fizz's gig work for Mammon despite his personal disagreements over it -- he places more weight on being _supportive_ than being _protective,_ though considering he called Blitzø to help with the intervention, he wants to be both supportive _and_ protective if he can.)
- Both Mammon and Asmodeus are Sins, the rulers of the Rings of Greed and Lust respectively -- they're considerably more powerful than any other characters who've shown up in this series, being outranked only by the Morningstar family. That's why even Stolas treated Asmodeus with deference when they met last episode: they're Kings. Keep that in mind every time someone stands up to either of them.
- Glitz and Glam, the twins, are Deep Ones -- one of the first major examples of the race that's been given in the series. They're from two Rings down, in Envy, one of the only places in Hell we haven't seen yet. (And yes, insofar as we know, they _are_ Deep Ones in the Lovecraftian sense -- Viv has stated she's drawn inspiration from a wider range of sources than just Christian and Satanic literature when building her version of Hell, and several nods to Cosmic Horror have been made in _Helluva Boss_ so far.)
- The entire scene of Fizz interacting with his fans really drove home how much of a gap exists between the persona he presented when we first met him and who he _really_ is. The whole time, he was bouncing from one person to the next, never slowing down to engage with anyone on any meaningful level, because everyone there was only interested in Fizz _as an object of desire;_ it wasn't until he saw the little Impling who spoke to him in ASL that he made a genuine connection and gave one of the most heartfelt smiles we've ever seen in this show. *He doesn't do this for the fame or fortune: he's a Clown because he wants to make kids smile and laugh.* (The kid's name is Ollie, by the way.)
- Fizz knowing ASL (and yes, that was _actual_ signing they were using) likely ties back to the accident at the circus: the smoke and fire likely damaged his throat, resulting in his current raspy voice, and the explosion and the heat may have also affected his hearing -- between the two, learning how to sign would've been essential for him while he recovered and went through rehab with Ozzie. (It's been speculated that the damage to both their horns might be related to their shared ASL usage, but we don't know for sure.)
- Speaking as someone who has them too, Fizz's panic attack was _100% authentic._ I could feel my chest tightening just _watching_ it!
- Fizz's feelings of being _unworthy_ of the good things in his life, of struggling to _believe_ the praise and affirmation from those who care about him and seeing himself as a waste of time, of needing to be _better_ and to _prove_ that he deserves the people in his life, have a name: *Impostor Syndrome.* I deal with the same kinds of self-perceptions, and I gotta say, his breakdown *_destroyed me_* -- it's _so_ true to life that I _refuse_ to believe that it's not based in lived experiences!
- '2 Minutes' Notice' was one of those numbers that I straight-up _cheered_ at. I'm a pretty empathic guy too, and I resonated so strongly with Fizz's struggles and self-loathing that it felt like I was taking this journey with him -- and even though I'm still trying to give my _own_ abuser a "F. U.!" of his own on my way out the door, it was uplifting to see someone else manage to take that leap. But it's _more_ than that: he spent the song progressively destroying his costume, _owning_ the scars and imperfections he'd previously obsessed over _concealing_ -- and right before he burned the last bridge, he had to steel himself, taking strength from his lover, his best friend, and the crowd's support to finally tell Mammon off straight to his face.
- We're _definitely_ going to be shifting the focus back to Blitzø and Stolas, but Fizz and Ozzie aren't out of the show by a _long_ shot. They're not just a representation of the goal for the Stolitz relationship, but Blitzø's rekindled friendship with Fizz provides one of the few peer-to-peer dynamics in his life -- he hasn't really had any friends between the fire and now. (Plus, Mammon just threatened to make Asmodeus regret robbing him of his power over Fizz -- that Chekhov's gun is locked and loaded for the back half of Season 2, which might also feature a meet-up of *_all seven Sins, including Lucifer.)_*
Can we talk about Blitz calling Fizz and Oz hypocrites because how they treated him and Stolas and M&M at the club

When he created "Ozzie's", and generally as the Sin of Lust himself, I suppose he never believed he, of all demons (and especially Sins as they're higher and such) would not only find love, but fall inlove that deeply and genuinely and strongly and top of that, be smitten with an Imp. Something he just tosses away here and that means so much more than it looks

I've seen this episode sooo many times at this point through different reactors, and yours is by far my favorite because you're so relatable and adorable to watch. You are golden retriever energy.

34:00 The instrumental for this bit was actually the Season 2 trailer. It was so awesome to hear it in full. That said... we actually haven't. Clown Bitch has three versus. The first is fully voiced and animated in the episode, the third is voiced in the credits, but the second only exists on the demo version.
Hellfire usually matches the color of the ring its in, but at 43:34 it's blue, meaning Ozzie lit Fizzie's ciggie.
Someone pointed out a subtle bit of design work they pulled off with Mammon a while back and I love it.
You see in Australia there's this species of spider that holds a mass migration across the country during December, so the locals nicknamed them "Christmas Spiders."
Mammon in this show is a spider with an Australian accent who's dressed like a Christmas tree, making him a literal Christmas Spider. Add that on to Christmas becoming consumed by capitalism lately and the fact he went from a polished silver coin to a tarnished green one and he's a fantastic design.
For the shorts there's only two of 'em out so far, but there's going to be another one this month and another during September. You could either do one episode now and another in a couple months reacting to two a pop, or wait for a while and then watch all four in one vid.

Best part in "Clown B*" song is when they drop water on them in the end. It is actually quite signature move for pretentious artists. What ironically do work on many levels, starting from fact that Envy is inhabited by sea creatures.

I've been waiting for you to get to this episode since you first announced you were doing Helluva Boss! This is my favorite episode, and even with two more seasons coming, I don't think anything is going to surpass it for me. I love Fizz and Ozzie so much. Especially how, at the end of the last episode we saw Fizz apologizing "for getting messy", and it ties into this episode.

I think the similiarities you're seeing between Adam and Mammon are more of a stylistic thing with Viv lmfao.
Might be a bit more than that though… The Sins are rumored to be the ones who fell with Lucifer, which might be why they’re more powerful. Mammon maybe didn’t want to change his style much from Heaven and ran with it as a clown? They’re not mortal souls and are more powerful/higher ranked than the Goetia who are considered nobles/aristocracy of hell, so it would make sense… but nothing’s been confirmed to either validate or deny this yet (that I know of) :/

I don't know how much this is true for other followers of reaction channels, but I personally only watch those that have the same enjoyment of shows that I do. The only way to watch something for the first time twice, is to watch with someone who hasn't seen it yet. For bigger shows and movies that's rare IRL, so reaction channels make that experience special and obtainable. I would never want someone to push themselves past the point of enjoying themselves, especially in a creative profession, because than the content wouldn't be worth it. It would no longer be true to the person (i.e everything in this HB episode). So of course don't think these videos need to be any "better", unless you actually enjoy the growth and change as a medium. We're here to enjoy stuff WITH you and hear how you see things, not scrutinize your every decision. The "content" isn't as important as your health.

The thing about Glitz and Glam is they didn't do anything wrong. They insulted and taunted Fizz a few times, but neither sabotaged him. They are just two jerks that want to win.

I actually have a theory about Fizz's voice. I think the explosion left him mute for a while until it was like the left of his body fixxed by robotics. It would also explain why he knows sign language, he had to learn it, when he couldn't speak.

The hammer thing is a scale. If you look closely at the bottom it says "heavy". Mammon has a measuring tape wrapped around Fizz's waist. Remember on the red carpet when Mammon told Fizz the fans liked him skinny af? Yea.
The pictures on the wall you stopped to look at (during Fizz’s performance) are all of Mammon treating Fizz badly. Look at his expressions and what Mammon is doing.
The one where Fizz is “tied” shows Fizz on a scale that says HEAVY. It looks like Mammon is using a cord to squeeze Fizz’s waist tiny. In another, Mammon is blind-folded and throwing knives at a clearly scared Fizz. One of the knives has already hit one of Fizz’s horns. Etc.

I just love watching everybody melt when they're reacting to this episode and Oliver's moment happens. At least I think fans / works working on the show called him Oliver.
44:20 Here Mammon is weighing and measuring Fizz, and scale is saying heavy. The thing aroung Fizz's waist looks like measuring tape.
Fizz is very skinny creature, even for imp standards, so that feels like a nod towards emotional abuse and Mammon gaslighting Fizz into believing that he's not appealing enough in terms of looks.
Which would make sense, given Fizz's reaction to his makeup coming undone a little bit

One detail of FU that's easy to miss on first watch (I certainly did!) is that Fizz is methodically tearing off pieces of his motley throughout the song, divesting himself of the mascot identity Mammon gave him. Last thing to go? The COLLAR. It's details like that that makes this franchise so friggin' neat.

The voice of Fizz is Alex Brightman, who can do some very super raspy tricks with his voice. But it is indeed the same guy doing older Fizz voice and teen Fizz voice. (You can even hear him doing it in the ending song, when he's an adult; he begins the opening number super raspy, and then switches to periods of smoothness when he hits higher notes.)
For the mammon/Adam thing as far as I know in the cannon for hazbin/helluva boss there is no relation aside from being high tier angel/demons and being dicks. However, in some versions of demon mythology the 6 sins aside from lucifer are angels who rose up with him and became the sins alongside him. So no Mammon isn't related to Adam or angels in anyway, the only sin who might be is actually Asmodeus, but that's a long, convoluted fan theory that could probably be explained better by someone else
A note that likely factors into BOTH the Fizz and Blitzo relationships: non-royal hellborn like Imps are mortal, with lifespans where they will eventually age and die. Meanwhile, the Ars Goetia, Deadly Sins, and Sinners are all functionally immortal. And I'm sure both Blitzo and Fizz are painfully aware of that.
Pour one out to Vortex, who's in a similar relationship but too chill to show if it's getting to him or if he's just enjoying the ride.

idk if anyone has said or if you know, it doesn't matter a ton BUT the standalone "Just look my way" Official music video by Stolas (not part of any episode) contains some context / lore and comes before episode 8. Either way you should DEFINITELY give it watch, weather you do it in order or not it's a great music video and song.

That one photo you were confused about was Mammon putting Fizz on a scale and measuring his weight. Basically showing all the body image issues he forced upon him
Depends on how you look at it or who you ask, you could say that technically all the Sins are former angels and the Ars Goetia are descendants from angels, if I remember correctly

Helluva short #1 is ok to watch anytime now but still will need to see season 2 episodes 8 & 9 before you watch Helluva short #2, they are mini episodes that are time stamped. So if you want to wait after those episodes to watch both shorts that would probably be best to see them both.
I wanted to point out that Ozzie’s look on the red carpet really shows us how much Valentino wants to be like him. He even has a Fizzbot companion that he’s named Kitty that’s at his side.
Speaking of looks, I thought Adam looked like Mammon since I watched Helluva Boss first, but I do think it’s crazy that Alex Brightman voiced Fizzaroli and then in Hazbin Hotel voices a character that looks like Mammon.
Glam and Glitz look fishy like water-based demons which we find out in season 1 episode 3 there’s a ring like an Ocean. After seeing Pride, Wrath, Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Sloth (with the hospitals), this leaves Envy. Makes sense, with the twins wanting to win like Fizzaroli has for years.
Time for the highlight of Season 2's first half! (I'd say it's the best of Season 2, but... well.)
