    I split logs nowadays instead of gym :) love it. The timber jack works really well when you have a wooded lot full of mid size trees

    I think that log length marker is to be used to mark the entire length of the log with just a quick 3" cut. Then take it off the bar, out of your way. I don't think it's going to last very long using the way you are. Just a suggestion. Stay safe.

    Nice video. The $300 electric log splitter from Home Deport works great , especially on the size logs you have. Plus it takes up very little floor space.

    Pro tip on the timber jack, I helped my grandpa’s business as a tree trimmer and had the same issue.
    It’s a lot easier to stand on the other side of the log and ram the “claw” into the wood like a battering ram. Then you step over the log and try to pull it the way that you were in the video.
    If the log is on the larger side, adjust your angle to ram the claw into the wood from more on top of it.

      I tried ramming it in some large logs (33" diameter), no luck. I sharpened the point, still no luck. I now drive the point in by pounding it in with the hammer side of my hatchet, then it will get it to bite, so I can roll it.

    Your log marker might work good in a yard like you show but not so much out in the bush. Mine didn't last a day before it was lost. When you are out in the brush every little twig will be trying to grab at it and send it flying. That rod is very springy so no telling where it will end up. Also if you put it in your pocket when not on the saw and walk up to your truck it will jump right out of your pocket and attach itself to your truck. All in all I would say they are more trouble than they are worth. I went back to a stick and a spray paint can. Takes me about five minutes to mark out a sixty food log and have it all the same length.

    From what I've seen from the wranglerstar channel is that he tends to stand on the opposite side of the log from the way he wants to roll it and jams it down and then steps over the log pulling it with him. Or if the log is too big he jams it somewhat straight down then pulls it back. But either way tools are trying to become more useful and sometimes a good idea doesn't make the tool better but worse in practice lol. I had a craftsman ratchet that you push and pull down its handle parallel instead of perpendicular like normal and it was awful.

    The life of a chain saw lol plenty of chains and a spare bar at all times. It’s part of Murphy’s law when it comes to chain saws. Things always seem to happen no matter how careful you are. Enjoy the content 👍

    Maybe if you grinder the tip very sharp it might grab the log much better. Good Luck, Stay Safe‼️. Vinny 🇺🇸

    My son got one of the log things(peevey I think) and bent the handle so going to add some steel pipe to it.

    • @CountryViewAcres
      @CountryViewAcres  5 лет назад +1

      Hopefully I don't mess with anything heavy enough to bend the handle. But I am sure the handle cheaply made and will bend if I over do it.

  • @mrbilky
    @mrbilky 5 лет назад +2

    Place the log length rod on the tip of the bar you should always use the log dawgs up against the log and let the saw do the work, every time your saw pulls forward you loose cutting power not a major big deal but it is also safer

    • @CountryViewAcres
      @CountryViewAcres  5 лет назад +1

      After using it a while, find on larger logs maybe putting it on end of the saw is better, but on smaller limbs, close to the saw is better to keep it out of the way while cutting all the branches up. It is good that it is easily moved into different positions.

    On splitin the logs , set them on the concrete not the soft dirt. Should work out better.

  • @leroybullied7705

    The points on that cant hook log turner need to be twice as long and a heck of a lot sharper then it would work good.

  • @Bass2010
    @Bass2010 5 лет назад

    I think you need to grind a sharper point on it so it will grab the wood better

    • @CountryViewAcres
      @CountryViewAcres  5 лет назад

      Actually I was thinking the same thing. I was using it again today, and it just doesn't want to bite into the log. I may try sharpening a point.

    Have you considered investing in a chainsaw mill. It would be feat to mill the lumber you need around the homestead.

    • @CountryViewAcres
      @CountryViewAcres  5 лет назад +1

      I have considered buying a bandsaw mill in the future. I used to buy a lot of wood from a local sawmill for wood working. When I get a work shop built I will looking into some type of mill.

    A little English lesson from downunder. Drug is to do with snorting or pills, nothing to do with moving things. The correct word to use is dragged, 'I dragged the log' not ' I drug the log'. LOL

    "Chaps" is a Hispanic word and is pronounced with a "sh" sound. Not trying to be bossy or know-it-all, just thought you might like to know.

    • @augustreil
      @augustreil 5 лет назад +3

      Not in the Northeast it isn't, it's pronounce like Chapstick !

    • @wandaarganbright4056
      @wandaarganbright4056 5 лет назад +1

      @@augustreilThis is from the historical definition of the word (not written by me.) You may pronounce this word any way you wish. I didn't mean to offend. I think this is a word used often, which most people don't really understand. I was born and raised in the Texas panhandle around cattle and horses. I am very familiar with this word and the history of it. I even own a few pair, including my first pair from age 6. I love your channel and you have a beautiful home (and wife.) I like to see other places and people, and to see how different their life from mine. Have a truly great day! Who invented chaps?
      The concept of chaps was introduced by the Spanish to protect their legs from cactus, brush and thorns. They called it "Chaparehos" which meant leather breeches or "leg of iron". The first chaps were just large pieces of cowhide attached to the saddle and wrapped around the legs. How do you pronounce chaps?
      The traditional pronunciation of the word chaps, when referring to this garment, is with a "sh" sound (as in shave), rather than "ch" (as in chime). This reflects the similar pronunciation of chaparral. The authentic pronunciation by both the working and rodeo cowboy of the American West is "shaps."

      @@wandaarganbright4056, I don't really care but here in the Northeast, they are Chaps as in Chapped lips which is cured by using Chap Stick ! lol !!
