It's funny when you realise Ryuk is an Allegory for the audience. He is a detached observer, who only came for entertainment. We, as he does, WANT Light to get in trouble and we WANT to see him solve his problem in an entertaining way. We enjoy the story as one enjoys, well, a story. And at the end of the series, we let Light die and leave to seek other entertainment.

As you said, he is a detached observer granting Death Note-related requests yet never outright helping for the sake of help. It's like the author wrote Death Note as a thought experiment on how humans would react and decide if a weapon of mass murder would ever exist on Earth. As such, it makes sense that the author could self-insert as Ryuk.

He was compliant in being used as a tool in Light's schemes to add to the fun, even when he killed another shinigami. Ryuk did what little bits he needed to keep the game going until Light either won or lost, and Light lost when he basically admitted he was out of options, and cried out for Ryuk's help. End of the line.

One mistake people make I’ve seen is thinking light has a god of death on his side. He hardly acknowledges ryuk. Ryuk is not helping light. He sees light exactly as we do, egotistical brat that he is. Amusing but when Lights dead and it’s over we can move onto something else.

death note isn't about anyone: it's about the nature of morality and human nature as a whole when given the power of a god. ryuk was bored so he dropped the death note with the intent of simply observing whatever happens. light picked it up with the intention of using it to rid the world of evil but was soon corrupted (arguably to insanity). L wanted to catch the world's best serial killer but was willing to do very questionable things to do it. misa did everything out of love for,again a serial killer but in the end it destroyed her when she took her own life. and even after all that,it leaves you with the question: what would you do if given that kind of power? this series is all one,big think piece dressed as a simple anime/manga about a guy who gains the power to kill anyone he want's.
I actually like Ryuk's voice too, and his monologue at the end is one of my favorite parts. Just what Ryuk says and how he says it, I love it. Thanks for watching!
That perspective of life wouldn't even work for us humans because, we all have a moral standard we live by in our heads. Ryuk in this case, he's not inherently evil because he's a shinigami. In our reality, I might find something morally wrong with something you don't find morally wrong. We all live with our own individualistic morals whether we try to deny it or not.

I noticed a difference between Misa, Light, and Higuchi 1. Light treats Ryuk like he's the better of the two, other Shinigami even call Ryuk a "pet" 2. Misa saw Rem as a maternal figure or her equal 3. Higuchi saw Rem as his servant only talking to her when he needs her
I find the topic of oblivion, hell and heaven interesting in Death Note. It’s actually similar to the real world. According to God, all animals go to oblivion, after death they stop existing. Angels who didn’t sin stay in heaven. Angels who sinned go to hell, there is no forgiveness for them. humans who sinned go to hell, there is forgiveness for them. They have to believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ who is God and who is also the son of God. If a human being manages to to do that, God will spare him and he goes to heaven. If he doesn’t care, he will go to hell. Fun fact: In the real world God, also called Love, is an omnipotent creature who has infinite wrath and hate towards sin, and who has infinite grace for everyone who wants his grace. He is a just judge who rules over everything, every evil angel and every good angel is under his command. Depending on the actions of a living creation, God is the worst nightmare or the best dream of that living creation

I feel like death note was about Ryuk not Light. If you think about it he did this because he was bored. None of this chaos would happen if he dropped the death note. Also he killed Light, this anime was about Ryuk I guess?
death note isn't about anyone: it's about the nature of morality and human nature as a whole when given the power of a god. ryuk was bored so he dropped the death note with the intent of simply observing whatever happens. light picked it up with the intention of using it to rid the world of evil but was soon corrupted (arguably to insanity). L wanted to catch the world's best serial killer but was willing to do very questionable things to do it. misa did everything out of love for,again a serial killer but in the end it destroyed her when she took her own life. and even after all that,it leaves you with the question: what would you do if given that kind of power? this series is all one,big think piece dressed as a simple anime/manga about a guy who gains the power to kill anyone he want's.

That perspective of life wouldn't even work for us humans because, we all have a moral standard we live by in our heads. Ryuk in this case, he's not inherently evil because he's a shinigami. In our reality, I might find something morally wrong with something you don't find morally wrong. We all live with our own individualistic morals whether we try to deny it or not.
Imagine a literal death god that flies, has a large mouth of sharp teeth and elongated limbs being creeped out by a stranger following you from the shadows..
