DUDE! impress work my guy!! especially with having to guess, that must be nerve-wracking, especially with such a big board. And nearly an hour as well- suffice to say i am VERY impressed
Guess #3 was actually not a guess, it was a safe group (I know, this video is almost 5 years old). You only had 3 mines left which was unknown at that point, 2 had to go in the bottom right group, and the last one in the top left. Knowing this, there is only one place to put the mine to satisfy the surrounding squares. Still passed 3 guesses, two with a 50% chance and one with 67% chance of succeed.
This isn't that impressive. I solved one just as big using Simon Tatham's custom grid. Btw, as a minesweeper fan/player myself the guesswork makes it dumb. Use Simon's, and you can make it check for resolvability from your first click using logic only. There won't be a part where it is all in a corner with nothing but a random guess from 2 spots where it could be either or. And for those who think this is great talent simply because he beat it, they simply haven't got the desire to actually try minesweeper themselves on expert and learn how it works.
As an expert at Minesweeper myself, I know I could probably beat this easily. (If given enough time) I thought the impressive part was the speed of this guy, not that he could actually beat it. EDIT: I just read the description, and saw he sped it up x10. I thought it seemed a bit too fast to be true, lol. XD
Seth Wallace How exactly do you win at Minesweeper? Whenever I fill most of the board, I die because I reach a point where I have to guess, due to inadequate evidence.
Gary Lu That is mainly because windows's default minesweeper isn't like some of the custom minesweeper programs (like the one mentioned in my first post) that force games to be winnable without guesses. That said, if you really sit and think about things, going step by step like if this one has to be this or that one, it rules out 3, 4 spots, counting on how many mines are left to the maximum amount of mines possible around open areas vs unexplored ones, etc, etc. There are all kinds of weird tricks I have learned over the years. Even when guessing, there are few different things to remember. It isn't just about the highest probability of finding an open space. Often times that thinking will just get you know where. Go for the lowest probability over an area that will give the highest probability of actually unlocking more areas around you. This one is really hard to explain without making a video to show you what I am talking about specifically. On standard expert settings I find it reasonable to get about a 50-75% win ratio depending on how rushed you are. You simply have to get more experience. And yes, I do currently have about a 67% ratio on expert, no hacks, cheats, etc for almost 300 games now in my current statistics. That said, I don't really use windows much anymore for a long time, so they really aren't current results.
Wow I can't believe the number of the square means how many bombs are around it, I never got it when I was a kid :|. But I have a question, can you get the number 8?
Intel 6850k GTX1080 g.Skill TridentZ 4x8gb Samsung 850 Evo I've tried running minesweeper but it keeps on crashing, any of you more experienced gamers know how to solve this?
Máté Villányi OHHHH, RIGHT. So wait, the pro is only to get 30 fps on lowest settings? So if I get the 950 pro would that be better? What about a 950 pro raid 0 setup?
G.Skill RAM sucks, first of all. I'd recommend you download about 4 sticks of 16GB, Crucial-brand RAM. I wouldn't be surprised if you got a virus with that pos you got. It certainly wouldn't hurt to apply more thermal paste to your GPU's PCI slot either.
Kek. The 3rd guess was a mistake (left top corner). You missed to place a flag somewhere. If you knew a correct quantity of mines you would not need to guess there.
Nice! GJ! One question: why do you postpone "Guesses"? What is the point of making whole lot of work and then leave it up to luck? Doesn't it make more sense to guess once the situation appear?
It does make sense to guess immediately. However, on the guesses that I postponed, I had never made it so far in a single trial, and I at least wanted to take a screenshot of the almost-completed board before I guessed.
+Valera Kondratenko There can be one good reason to postpone a guess. The counter at the top left shows how many mines there are minus how many flags you have made. So for example at the top left corner knowing how many mines are left can actually allow you to logically deduce where they are. In that corner logically there could be 1 mine, 2 mines, or 3 mines. If it was one mine it would mean the bottom right of the 4 was the mine and the rest were safe. If it was 2 mines, it would mean it is still a guess. If it was 3 mines, then the bottom right would be safe and the other 3 would be mines. On the other hand, when there's multiple guesses, you definitely are risking a ton of wasted time by saving all the guesses until the end.
