Those infinite bookshelves make me think of the library of babel, which is an infinite library with an infinite number of books each with infinite pages filled with random strings of letters. Theoretically, everything that could possibly be written can be found in it. You just have to look for long enough, which could be anywhere from a few seconds to thousands of years. Time is disregarded in the Library of Babel thought experiment in favor of the concept of possibility

    • @peamutbubber

Does anyone remember seeing strange liminal spaces like these when being young? Especially when old minecraft music is playing, it- .. its hard to explain the feeling, like theres something out there that we are going to find out one day, I keep seeing this place that I saw in my dreams as a kid, and somehow feel like I am going to come back there one day. Just know that the universe is a strange place, it cant be explained to the extent that we are 100% certain of whats going on, but thats the beauty of it.
Wow I got sidetracked. Anyone else relate to this feeling?

    • @VCLegos
      @VCLegos 7 месяцев назад +18

      I do.
If you want to know about this feeling I have included some of my favorite theories on the subject, it's a long read but I think you will find it interesting to go through each one. Some are "far out there" and others are based on very well known science. I hope you enjoy reading them all :D I will start with the more "crazy" ones since I find them more interesting then go into the more scientific ones.
Option number one is that there is a singular being who has always been and always will be. This being is what most people would call "God" and it is currently creating infinite realities for the purpose of gaining understanding, something like when we run a simulation to see what happens. We are currently one of these realities but ultimately we are "God" just lesser forms of it obviously. Because we are "God" we still have all the memories but we have chosen to forget them because that is kind of the point of this reality. Because God wants to make all possible realities and experience them it is obvious that one of those realities would be one where everybody forgot where they come from. We are currently in one of those realities. However, the goal is always to rejoin the "Source"/"God" so sometimes we get some glimpses of the other realities to bring us back to the "Source"/"God". When we "die" we take our experiences back to the "Source" basically give a report and then come back to gain more experiences.
The other option is that in the past our species experienced something similar to these images in an important way (predators, mating, anything related to survival essentially). Whenever an organism interacts with the world it will edit its genes. This was demonstrated in the study by Dias and Ressler (2013), where they investigated the inheritance of parental traumatic exposure. Basically, the children inherited the parents fear of certain things. So if the parents were exposed to electric shocks whenever they entered a blue room, they will become fearful of blue rooms and after some time maybe just the color blue. This might be what is happening with weird memories that we can't remember having but still know about. This is the best scientific answer I have found so far and is a topic that can be very interesting to study. But it begs the question, "If these are inherited memories then what on earth did our ancestors experience? For a memory to be this extensive it must have happened long ago and have been so influential that we still remember it in our genes to this day."
Another option is that we are currently limited in our senses. We know that sharks and birds can sense the magnetic fields of the earth, mantis shrimps can see more bands of light than humans can and that snakes can see infrared light. The theory of limited senses is that we can feel "higher dimensions", "other colors" etc. but we have not developed the senses to sense them. This is called extrasensory perception and is a fringe science often labeled as pseudoscience by the mainstream. However, it should be noted this does not mean it is wrong. Science is a powerful tool but it cannot operate inside these fields of study. It might be that we have developed an ability to see these higher/lower dimensions without the use of our typical senses. Or that we need to activate the parts of our bodies that are able to see these places. We know that if you don't have certain chemicals in the body it becomes difficult to do certain things mentally. This is why doctors give pills to patients with mental illnesses in order to feel things like happiness or numbness. It might be that to see the higher dimensions we need a similar drug, most people say this is DMT (Not recommending taking drugs, that's just what they say). DMT is produced naturally in the body which means its concentration can vary like other chemicals in the body vary. When it is high we might be able to see into these realms. Since we have a low concentration most of the time it might just be that we can't see the higher realms very often.
The last option is the most scientific but also in my opinion the most lame. We all have seen these images before but forgot we saw them. When we see the images we remember that we saw them at some point. For example, you drove somewhere when you were a kid and saw an billboard with a specific picture on it, say a clown holding a pancake. Something abstract. Then several years later, you see a picture of a clown holding a disc. It is very similar and your brain activates a similar neural pathway. More relevant to this video is the images from Interstellar and the images of a night in Minecraft. The Interstellar images are clearly from interstellar but the images of a night in Minecraft are simply images from Minecraft that nearly everyone has experienced. Since the game has changed so much since you first experienced that moment it seems weird now. Remember it wasn't just the game that was different, it was the monitor and computer you played it on, and even you were different. This all adds to the distant feeling.
If you read all that Congrats! I hope it all made sense and hopefully you gained some entertainment and knowledge from it :)

@@VCLegos Thinking "I am (partly) God" just because of images that - let's assume - are memories from a stage before our lives on earth is a pretty big leap of logic.
Also, God setting up such a scheme to me seems to contradict that God is the perfect being (which is part of the definition of God) - why would God need to 'live' out an infinite series of experiences when he as master of all being set up these experiences (being their creator) and is aware of them and all their states across the entirety of time (omnipotence)?

There are 4 songs that give me emotions.
    1. A Stop at Willoughby - A Stop at Willoughby, Twilight Zone
    2. That song from that game by that Japanese person that took 10 years to make
    3. Resonance
    4. Mice On Venus - slowed
A stop at Willoughby brought me to tears because of the story. The protagonist lives a horrible life, his wife hates him, his boss sucks, and he wishes for a better time, finding it in an idealized 1890s.
That song from that game called armory(idk what it was called) - it starred a teen dealing with depression after the death of his sister, and the collapse of his old friend group. The character, called sun or something (again idk) lives in a dream world which depicts the friend group of the past as it was, with the song playing every time you enter that world (called whitespace or something). It hits hard when we encounter on the dream characters (I think called Aubrey) having a totally different demeanor, with the character fighting her.
Resonance is simple, it evokes a nostalgia for purple neon cities, the twin towers, and late 20th century America. We never got that.
Mice on Venus for me is unknown, maybe it is nostalgia that is yet to come

There is an inherent sadness associated with the concept of black hole singularities primarily because they represent the end point of a massive gravitational collapse. A black hole singularity is a region of infinite density and zero volume, where the laws of physics as we understand them break down.
When matter collapses under its own gravity, it reaches a point where its density becomes infinitely high. This point is known as the singularity. It is a location of extreme gravitational forces, where spacetime curvature becomes so severe that it curves infinitely, bending space and time to the point of being indescribable by our current understanding of physics.
The sadness arises from the fact that anything that falls into a black hole, including energy, matter, and information, is believed to be irretrievably lost. Once past the event horizon, nothing can escape the gravitational pull, and all information about the matter that fell into the black hole seems to be erased.
In the framework of general relativity, which describes gravity on a classical level, the singularity is seen as a point where our current understanding breaks down. It is often considered as a failure point of our laws of physics, as it implies that the very fabric of spacetime itself becomes infinitely warped and compressed.
This idea of an irreversible loss evokes a sense of melancholy, as it challenges our notions of preservation and retrievability. The inability to recover information from a singularity feels deeply sorrowful, especially if one considers that the lost data could contain valuable knowledge about the universe and its past.
However, it's worth noting that there are ongoing scientific discussions and investigations into the behavior of black hole singularities. The field of quantum gravity, for example, aims to unify general relativity with quantum mechanics and may provide new insights into the nature of singularities. These efforts might one day shed light on the true fate of information that enters a black hole and potentially challenge the notion of its irreversible loss.
In summary, the sadness associated with black hole singularities stems from the apparent loss of information and the extreme conditions they represent. Nevertheless, scientific exploration continues to seek a deeper understanding of these enigmatic cosmic phenomena. Certainly! The concept of black hole singularities is closely tied to our understanding of the nature of spacetime and the fundamental laws of physics. While they evoke a sense of sadness due to the apparent loss of information and the breakdown of our current theories, they also fuel curiosity and drive scientific inquiry.
The mysterious and awe-inspiring nature of black holes captures the imagination of scientists and the general public alike. They are some of the most extreme objects in the universe, governed by the forces of gravity in ways that challenge our comprehension. In a way, this sadness also inspires a sense of wonder and intrigue, as it highlights how much we have yet to discover about the universe and its workings.
In recent years, new theoretical frameworks have emerged, such as the holographic principle and black hole thermodynamics, which propose that information may not be entirely lost within black holes. These ideas suggest that the information might be encoded on the event horizon itself or stored in some form of quantum states associated with the black hole's properties.
Furthermore, the field of quantum gravity seeks to reconcile the principles of quantum mechanics with the theory of general relativity, providing a more complete understanding of gravity at microscopic scales. It is in this realm that scientists hope to find a resolution to the enigma of black hole singularities, potentially preserving the information that enters them.
The sadness associated with black hole singularities also reflects our innate desire for knowledge and understanding. It compels scientists to push the boundaries of our understanding, driven by the pursuit of unraveling the mysteries of the universe and gaining a deeper insight into its fundamental nature.
It is important to recognize that while black hole singularities are mysterious and potentially sad, they are also an integral part of the larger cosmic tapestry. Black holes play crucial roles in shaping galaxies, influencing the evolution of the universe, and providing unique testing grounds for our theories. They are reminders of the immense forces and phenomena that exist beyond our comprehension, reminding us of our own place in the vastness of the cosmos.
So, while the sadness associated with black hole singularities persists, it is accompanied by a sense of curiosity, wonder, and the steadfast pursuit of knowledge. Through scientific exploration and future breakthroughs, we may one day unlock the secrets they hold, allowing us to revise or deepen our understanding, and potentially shedding new light on the profound nature of black holes and their singularities.
