Oh Robyn..it's you mate. You're the one whose songs we wish we wrote
Amen to that, mate
I wish I wrote any song by Robyn. They're ALL nothing short of superb. Thanks for posting.
I remember discovering Robyn in the early nineties. His lyrics are excellent. Invisible Hitchcock was the album that reeled me in.
"none of which brought happiness, but all of which brought pleasure"
Going to see Hitchcock in a few hours! He'll be performing at a Chesapeake library.
I wish this went on for another hour! Crystal Ship was always one of my fave Doors tunes, it's just so evocative, but also gentle, not one of their rockers, it just steams
slowly full ahead to Avalon or whatever. And Ray's keyboards! So fantastic. C'mon Ray helped cement that goddamned band, as much as JIm, etc. and Robbie.
I feel smarter just listening to this man speak!
The King of the Polka Dot shirt.
Great talent with great taste...
".... love the lights, don't you?". The opening lyrics of 'To turn you on' are sublime... like some sensual cities' night-time lights. Bravo Robyn!!
To Turn You On is one of my favorite Ferry songs and very romantic indeed.
I'm surprised he didn't pick at least one Syd Barrett song.
I havent even finished the video, i was expecting a syd song too haha, now im sad
There is an interview with Robyn Hitchcock this coming Saturday 10th November 2018 on Cambridge 105 Radio 9 to 11 pm (uk time).Kimberly Rew will also be the studio guest on a show called Rock of Ages.
Genius
Great! Thanks for this.
I saw Tommy Stinson (Replacements) cover Ghost in You last year at a private party. The song broken-down to just chords and lyrics will tell you how grand it is....
And I wish I'd written Airscape and Trams of Old London.
Robyn (yes, we're on first name basis ; ) ) has great taste in music. And I love his covers of the Psychedelic Furs and others.
The Crystal Ship - well YES.
Grande, imenso Robyn!
And what about 'Long Gone,' 'Dark Globe', 'Effervescing Elephant,' 'Lets Split' and 'Lankey?'
Oh yeah, that Acid Garrett guy, right.... 😏 wonder if he's influenced him somehow
@@Gogettor u nobhead
The song he mentions is by the band I Was a King and is named "Ferries".
Yup... they reversed them on the video... I Was A King is damn good.
Grant Lee Phillips IS a great songwriter. Check out Grant Lee Buffalo - Mighty Joe Moon for proof. Of course so is Robyn!!
My favorite cover band, Crystal Ship
Wow
Yeah, they do a Doors show, you'd be really impressed, in fact, it goes a little like this
Love me two times, baby
Love me twice today
Love me two times, girl
'Cause I got AIDS
Love me two times, baby
Once for tomorrow
Once cause I got AIDS
Uh, pretty good Jim Morrison impersonation there
I hope those guys have a good sense of humor and don't take us into court
The Dead Milkmen are so good
Big Lizard in my Backyard....can't afford to feed it anymore. LOL
Good Robyn Hitchcock
Reading the comments I came to the conclusion; it's not only me who knows robyn for being a barret's fan, it's everyone
All these songs sound like Robyn wrote them!
I saw you in Deep Ellum Dallas Texas around 1990.
I took a leak in the Texas Student Union in Austin and glanced up and Robyn was wizzing away next to me. I was at the Cactus Cafe to see him and this was between sets. I was speechless.
Meg. My bestfriend, listen to him talking about it all. I love you, girl.
What ! No syd. Barrett songs ?
Shocking
The Crystal Ship is the best Doors song by far
Sometimes I think so too. I've been enthralled by it since the first day I heard it.
@@9750939 So succinct.. Truly beautiful to me.
The End isn't none too shabby, neither, and also L.A. Woman is up there for me.
My two are Desperado and Who put the bomp
Almost completely convinced that Robyn Hitchcock is actually George Harrison in disguise. He's more of a kid brother then the boys in Badfinger
I know Robyn wrote at least one Beatles song. He only performed "Dr. Lucy" once (I recorded it!) because he says he realized it was actually Lennon's "There's A Place".
I wish I had written _Swirling._
Jimmy Saville, plays with Tots!
heres his face
Agree with him on Psychedelic Furs, Bryan Ferry (but not that song), and the Doors' Crystal Ship. Still can't find a great song by Robyn.
You're right. Perhaps not great. But still-- witty, clever, evocative
You are clueless.....
He has dozens of them--top knotch lyrics and melodies.
apart from doors average songs he seems to be overthinking simple songs
You seem fun.
Artists tho
The Doors are the worst of that bunch.Weirdo.
GL Phillips nod is pretty kewl
