I know this is a joke, but it does raise a point about the hyperbolic rhetoric used by politicians and advocates. When you use apocalyptic rhetoric to describe the most ordinary nonsense, it makes hard to respected when something legitimately serious is going on since you've already used your most severe descriptions for the little stuff.
