Great job with your Tiamat build; looks pretty sturdy for play! I also submitted a large (black) dragon build for the Lego Ideas Dungeons & Dragons contest but unfortunately didn't get selected as one of the five finalists either. C'est la vie.
That's OK as I kept up with improving the MOC fantasy minifigures and builds for my black dragon and other D&D monsters like the owlbear, displacer beast, gelatinous cube, and mimic (treasure chest type).
I had thought about using that exact same Dr. Strange set to build a beholder (great minds think alike) but I ran out of time and figured that the Dragon's Keep set would include a beholder anyway, so that idea got sidelined. I plan to display my custom minifigs and monsters with the official set once it's released for purchase.
It was a lot of fun to participate either way and I learned lots as a MOC builder and improving my techniques.

Thank you! I definitely had a lot of fun building and am excited for the set to release.
What is the name attached to your black dragon model? I would love to see it and the other models you are working on!

@@TheNaterater Thanks for the reply! My entry is called "Skull Dragon Battle". The contest was fun, even if I didn't make it as one of the five finalists. I did win one of Brickmania's MOC contests last year though, which boosted my confidence to try my hand at the Lego Ideas D&D contest.
I've since vastly improved on the black dragon with new parts (using the larger dinosaur fin pieces in old stone gray on its back, and new 4x3 scaled pieces in tan for its belly to replace all the gray spoiler pieces).
Plus I redid the head to make it slimmer and with longer horns, and reworked the tail with bigger sections to better hold up its weight in a upright standing pose. I'll have to take photos and upload them to my Flickr account sometime soon.
The other creatures are more or less the same (except for the mimic which I reworked to make it slightly smaller for better minifig scale).
I've been putting together some custom fantasy minifigures (the new CMF series of fantasy minifigs from Lego are great). The Monkey Kid sets are good for parts, with my fave being demon horn and hair pieces to create two tiefling sisters (a fighter and a druid).
I even purchased the Adventurers 4-pack from Brickmania (their stuff is pricey but great quality), and currently building a MOC fort on a cliff with rope and stone bridge battles and a waterfall river for them to play in (I bought the Monkey Kid fruit flower mountain set to use for parts). Still a lot of work left to do on it though and probably won't be done until months from now.
      Cheers!

Honestly, if I can figure out what pieces I need & how to assemble them in BrickLink Studio, you wouldn't believe the playset I want to build! You'd love it!

Nicely done, the minifigs are pretty cool too.
I built a cool tiny dragon recently, but generally i struggle at building creatures, you did a fantastic job 👏🏼

Thank you, I had a lot of fun with this one! Between this and the Rancor, I've found that creatures are super tricky - it took awhile to finally finish this one

Thank you! I just looked up an elemental hydra, and I would have to agree! Where does that name come from, is it mainly from MTG?
