Great work mr.vadim M! Too sad we cannot go back to the era of great times and real games now everything is under political control and censorship it was a pity that Rockstar company got pawned because of the great hot coffee minigame concept.. god bless those people for pushing the boundaries of art, story setting and arcade sandboxing.
Almost as if they could've HIRED the modders instead and made it infinite times better than the trilogy of pure shit that was released for full retail price.
That's exactly why I won't buy this poor excuse of a cash grab and instead will be more willing to play the originals :) PS2-era GTA's are one of the reasons why I keep my trusty, old, 2008-ish hp laptop with WinXP on it
@@Elmias you should get a ps2 and get the real experience! They are cheap! There is something about the look and feel of the ps2 version, with the orange haze and motion blur, that just feels better
Same. I've had GTA:SA installed on my computer with a ragdoll mod for the last 5 years now and seeing how badly they screwed this new version up really made me appreciate the original version so much more. Even little things like weather effects are handled so much better.
In fact a group of fan developers made a great job on Unreal Engine 4 and they cancelled the project. Don't know if rockstar threatened them with a law suit.
I have finished Vice City and San Andreas Definitive Edition walkthrough and I totally agree with this video. Thanks Vadim/Badger. I don't even have a mood to start with GTA 3 Defective Edition.
I haven't even finished any of the Definitive Editions. Partly because I can't stand looking at the character models, and the visuals are overall pretty inconsistent. I'd rather just go back and play the originals!
If I remember correctly, didn't a modding community actually redo the entirety of the DE and it came out a million times better? I think I remember reading about how R* sent cease and desist notices to the modders and ended up taking them to court. When a big name company has to kill off a modding community because that community can take your money grabbing garbage and make it actually better, that should speak volumes.
It was a project that reverse-engineered the original trilogy (only 3 and VC were released, since sadly the cease and desist came before SA could be released) and made better-workng and more optimized versions of them for the PC. No graphics enhancements, it was just code. The PC ports are notorious for having shit code.
I would also mention some minor additions to the map and renewed vegetation that really look much closer to original than any mods, if only half of the new additional assets weren't inappropriate anachronisms that violate the lore. Grove Street Games either didn't care much or simply weren't competent enough, or both.
Crazy how crappy the forests look during storms or "foggy" weather in the remaster. The forests in the original game under these weather conditions were some of the most unintentionally creepy looking areas in gaming simply because of how great the weather effects were implemented in the original games lol.
All of which birthed so many "myths" and "mysteries" lol Crazy what the right atmosphere can do. Amnesia The Dark Descent capitalized on that and made a killing back in early 2010s.
Really, you thought a bunch of boring empty space filled with fog was interesting? I mean, I'm more upset that they didn't condense the map or add more areas to actually do stuff than I am about the graphics. (Don't worry, they're still definitely on blast for somehow breaking the game with Defective Edition, I'm not defending it, I'm just bringing up a different view.)
I couldn't even imagine how good the Open source project would've looked. We have extremely talented modders, but what did they get in return of fixing their games for decades? a freaking lawsuit
The moment these developers agreed to take part on this project they already accepted the consequences to carry the burden and pressure that they will receive the moment they screw up and alas they did. They knew the audience is massive and pretty sure said to themselves that it'll be an instant payday. They didn't respect the game, the audience, and the history of this masterpiece. So no, I won't give any credit whatsoever on these phony a$$ "developers". If anything they should start doubting their skills if they're really equipped to be considered game developers.
@@Maximus20778 It shows that the fanboys all need to get slapped really hard to think for themselves, instead of defending every decision R* and Take2 make even if they're bad ones.
No one gonna talk about how they ruined a very cool detail related to the gang war minigame? Now every territory is bright green/yellow/purple meaning you can't differ if a territory is weaker or stronger, because in the original a bright color meant a more dense gang presence and a light color was a weaker one, now everything is the same, very lame.
id like to say that as someone who has modded his gta sa for years, junior djjr is defintiely one of the best modders out there. most of his mods give life to gta sa and adds details that gta sa doesnt have. personally he is on par with people like dk22pac and silent with how they impacted the modding community
I believe they even used to work together, or did on a couple projects. I remember seeing [by dk22pac] a couple times while navigating MixMods. Absolute legends.
I would definitely want to mention something no-one seems to bring up; the lack of car smoke to indicate car health. After crashing a few times it's now pure guesswork as to how much health your car has before in engulfs because the smoke sprite is extremely faint!
It's really hard not to feel angry at what they've done with the game, not only the quality of the work, but also the lore, something that's important to the fans. They broke the game's lore with those peds with shirts and non-sense tattoos, GTA V posters, anachronism issues etc. I feel more anger about breaking the lore, as it's not simply "a job poorly done", it's also a disrespectful for all of us. I see the game and it looks like a fanmade game, but not made by fans. Anyone who "but see, this is part of the lore, because it's on GTA Trilogy" I disagree, I don't accept GTA Trilogy as part of the game's lore, GSG is not and didn't know how to get the feel of Rockstar North, I feel sorry for original devs.
Os proprios devs atuais da Rockstar estão quebrando a lore quando fizeram referencia ao GTA San Andreas no GTA Online como se ambos fossem do mesmo universo. A Rockstar antiga morreu e o que resta é os jogos em suas versões originais como legado.
The reason cars spawn when you move the camera is because in SA (contrary to VC), the game renders only what the camera looks at; as a result, it spawns cars in the area that wasn't previously rendered because the camera wasn't looking at that direction. This is also a problem in GTAIV, especially in highways. If you look behind you, there is a high chance a car will spawn in front of you.
Wanted to mention that on day one if you were on English and went to language configurations, the game would list "brazilian" as a language. We don't speak "brazilian" at Brazil, we speak portuguese lol
@@xCDF-pt8kj You think game developers implementing different language options into their games shouldn't know that Brazilians speak Portuguese? You're a spastic.
@@xCDF-pt8kj I mean, I'm pretty used to people not knowing what language is spoken in Brazil, and don't get annoyed as it's an easy mistake since Brazil isn't such a relevant country (most of the time people think we speak Spanish). That being said, my point is that they hired an entire team to translate the entire game to a language and mislabeled the name of said language, that goes to show the lack of care they put into the game. Again, no one is required to know every language spoken in every single county, but they hired a team of translators, but were so careless they didn't even knew in what they were spending their money in. Hope I cleared up the confusion!
Some of the most absurd things I've seen in the "Definitive Edition" are Yakuza members in GTA 3 having Diablo gang (enemies of the Yakuza) badges on their clothes and Vagos (a Latin American gang) in GTA SA having Africa map tattoos.
This is exactly what gaming community needs in this era. Every other reviewer, youtuber or whatever chooses their words carefully sugarcoating every inch. This is brutal honesty and i loved it.
It's honestly insane the attention to detail and love they had for the original San Andreas. They literally thought of everything. Even stuff you might never notice... It almost seems magical that they were doing stuff like separate weathers for each city all the way back on PS2. I think PS2 was the most revolutionary console ever. And the biggest leap from generation to generation.
Let's come to a conclusion. The transition to PS1/N64 to PS2/Xbox led to basic advancement graphics and design. The transition from PS2/Xbox to PS3/Xbox 360 led to a formal advancement of the prior generations graphics and design. It's been quite stagnant ever since the PS4/Xbox One aside from slight graphics with no true innovation in-between, they just made it look nicer and lowered the optimization by increasing the storage space even though they can fix that.
Grove Street Games already had a great detailed game to start with and remaster but somehow they still managed to screw it up. I still wouldn’t say that is their fault, Rockstar Games is the one who gave the green light to releasing this mess
Oh, it's both of their fault. Rockstar's part of it is explanatory. GSG on the other hand shouldn't have accepted such projects to begin with, given their awful track record with the mobile ports of the 3D Classics... Just look at their work with the GTA SA mobile port especially, such a broken a mess, yet being labelled as a "remastered". It got a deserving amount of fan backlash due to how buggy it was, which you know, should prompt GSG (or War Drum Studios back then) act to do something to fix the situation, but no, they did nothing. The new bugs present in the mobile port are still present in the Defective Edition, and this could have been avoided if GSG could have at least check out the community to see if their mobile ports were okay or not... Now, they expect the fans to be game testers to help report bugs for their patches? Yeah, screw GSG.
@@GachaB at least Gta sa ios was playable and didnt crash meanwhile gta sa Android crashes too much, and ps3 & x360 for sure, but anyway Android & ios gta sa was playable
Exactly. Rockstar put their name on this, and the developers they USED to have would have probably laughed in GSG's face when they showed up with this tragedy
I think the most unforgivable thing still about The Definitive Trilogy after all of these other issues as well that I have.... It is the complete and utter removal of III, VC, and SA's distinctive style from each other. each of the 3 in the original had their own kind of visual style that helped to set each game apart from one another... and in this release, all 3 games look exactly the same and completely lost their visual style.
oh and dont forget the removal of the original pc versions from both steam and rockstar launcher. unless you pirate, you're stuck with definitive trilogy
there's a real lack of giving R* their more than fair share of the blame for this whole mess, I'm not gonna act like War Drum did anything amazing with this or the previous port, but I will say that R* is just as guilty for the results of this for not learning their lesson with SA Remastered. Like come on, they saw what this mobile game studio did and then proceeded to act like that was good enough to bring on to port all 3 of these games into a new engine instead of handling it themselves? Actually brain dead
The people who say this "definitive trilogy" is a "good quality release" had adopted stubborn denial as their coping mechanism to withstand the shock and disappointment of getting ripped off by Rockstar for this.
Yeah basically they cannot accept the fact that they've got shafted for being a mindless mass of consumer cattle and they want to justify the fact that they got screwed over just so that they can keep consuming.

Nowadays the industry complies with modern standards, political correctness and games make more cash if they are kid friendly. But people forget that original sa already lacked proper quality control and an awful pc port released because Rockstar got paid by Sony, even though Rockstar origin is pc platform. Too sad we cannot witness back the era of great times and real games now everything is under political control and censorship for example it was a pity that Rockstar got pawned because of the great san andreas hot coffee minigame concept.. god bless those executives for pushing the boundaries of art, story setting and arcade sandboxing.
i know someone whos kinda like this, they havent played the original gta 3d trilogy and they're gonna play the definitive edition instead, i keep telling them not to play the D.E and to play the original version instead, their excuse is "no i wanna play a modernized up to date version of the game" and then explaining that by the time they start playing it, all the problems will already be fixed and i even tried to tell them that better graphics does not equal a better game and that didnt work
This is the result of bad Software Engineering. Simply put. Bad Risk Assessment, bad evaluation of functional (functionality, features) and non-functional (performance, reliability) requirements, bad design (or lack thereof?) in certain cases. This isn't a work of amateurs, this screams like the work of people who pretty much do not know anything about software development, it's like they don't know what they are doing AT ALL. It's almost as if a bunch of people who "know" how to code, art, debug, test, whatever came together and decided to start a studio... just cause, but lacking critical skills that are REALLY important in development processes.
Most likely one of those software development companies who went from waterfall to agile without actually knowing what it really means. Have seen this shit a ton and it's absurd how easily people are fooled if you throw around some buzzwords. Or maybe they don't even have a structured development process, PM, PO, ... and just do whatever fits them.
Tbh, Also I feel like they were given a low budget and they were rushed. But yea GSG need to get their shit together because the GTA Trilogy 'Definitive' Edition absolutely stinks.
That's why it called a Disaster Edition, they literally ruined everything especially the characters looks cartoon, some details have been removed or broken and they broke the game logic itself.
the truth is: Your hardware isn´t more advanced (aka faster). But only: Well it´s complex to compare. Modern hardware is just different. It´s using different hardware having to rely on other methods to get similar results.
Сейчас всё становится хуже, в плане исполнения, из-за доступности крутых технологий. Это какой-то новый социальный эффект, явление, которое надо изучить.
The worst thing about the D.E. wasn't the game itself or its flaws; its the blind supporters. "its a remaster not a remake" "quit living in the past, it looks good" etc.
About some of the weird effects: The flickering and pixelated effects are actually a somewhat recurring problem. I believe the game renders volumetric lighting effects (such as clouds, fog and lightrays) using a 3D voxelized lightmap. These things are pretty hard to process, due to the sheer amount of data points in a lightmap like this, the resolution is lowered compared to the output, and generally the resolution also decreases as the distance from the camera increases (this is called a cascading voxelmap). This causes some of the jagged edges around lights, since there's small computational errors when calculating the lights. You can even spot this in RDR2, if you look closely! The clouds meanwhile... I'm guessing the game over-aggressively tries to cull voxels which aren't deemed to be visible? It looks like it hides a part of the voxel, if a polygon intersects more than 50% of one, which obviously leads to issues since now there's a hole nearly half the size of a voxel. Whoops. The ghosting is a side-effect of something called "temporal anti-aliasing," I think... It's a technique where the game uses image data from previous frames to filter the image and repair jagged edges and also make the image appear higher resolution. Since it samples several frames, if something changes between those frames, it tends to leave some ghostly afterimages behind.
TAA was my first thought when he said, "ghosting effect." A poorly implemented TAA will do that, and given the fact that framerates seems to affect the taa too... Well, that's just lazy programming...
wish i could understand which problem you were talking about have to watch the video again understanding the explanation would be manageable if i know the reference even though i don't know the basics of game dev
Funny thing, that ghosting is almost disappearing when DLSS is active. You know, that DLSS, which adds ghosting effect in Death Stranding, Cyberpunk 2077 etc.
Vadim M + BadgerGoodger = perfection his voice is soooo good to do the narrator! great video as always 💪🏻 i was waiting so much this video about the Definitive Edition, it's embarrassing and disrispectful seeing the poor effort and laziness by Grove Street Games honestly
We give GSG a lot of shit for making a lousy product but personally I blame R* for not taking the time to remaster the games themselves. Instead of them doing it, they gave the job to a games studio with a really poor track record and expected them to make the "definitive editions" of some of the most important games of the 21st century, it's wild.
Not only dumping San Andreas on GSG's doorstep, but III, Vice City, and apparently more than ten others they were expected to "remaster" under deadlines. Maybe given enough time, they could've done the bare minimum.
Yeah apparently GSG consists of 20 people only… which is crazy cus recently I heard that rockstar hired a group of 20 people to work on the water physics for the next gta.
Remember the times when gamedevs had to test each aspect of their games before release? Because patching literally meant issuing a recall for thousands of copies? Yeah, those days are forever gone now.
Yep. Nowadays it's normal for companies to release lazy, broken, halfassed games and if you're really *REALLY* lucky... they might make at least one or two updates to try and fix *some* of the issues.
@@Dave_Albright Even in the 90's patches for PC games were a thing, and plenty of console games would have later versions with certain bugs fixed, earliest I can think of is Death crashing your game in the first Castlevania.
If there was a system in place for holding these companies accountable for putting out clearly sub par garbage and charging full price that would change it, but how that would ever happen I don't know. The only mechanism we have is to not buy their products, but people are too desperate to do that. I bet in a few years they'll start testing their games again and use it as an excuse to charge us more by claiming they need to make up the money they spent on testers "This game was tested! +$20"
18:48 Ah yes , Hidden Interiors Universe, one of the greatest mysteries of San Andreas.. The game had so well coding in original version to run it at the PS2 hardware , which wasn't very good compared to PC or Xbox at that time , so they had to make a big map , without too many loading screens but also extremely detailed.. Making interiors seperate was a really well though idea..
I remember playing the Xbox 360 version of gta sa (the bad mobile port version) and going into the hidden interiors area, and my disc literally breaking in half 😂
@@thelibertyking6735 I know. that was the point of my comment. there are so many issues that even just talking about weather problems takes almost 30min
This video would be even more destructive for Rockstar if he used the PS2 version of San Andreas as the 'original version' - the 2005 PC port was in some ways already watered down.
@@thelibertyking6735 you are delusional if u think the problems with this release were anywhere close to cp2077 lol this is still the best games ever made about 2 decades back save for the shitty remaster
This Definitive Edition Collection is the first game(s) I've bought where I shortly afterwards was like: "Dear God, what have I done? Did I really pay for THIS?" I paid full price for it too on release for about $65 (Xbox One Digital). I still have these original games on PC when I got the bundle of III, VC, SA & GTA4 for, I kid you not, $6-7. So why I even paid so much for this... What was I thinking? Was I high? Who really knows... Love this kind of videos. They are always a treat and so well made! P.S: To everyone and anyone who've created mods for these games for all these years, even though I've never tried any mods, thanks for keeping these games alive! (Yes, this is a really random shoutout.) Please excuse my rambling, that's just me.
I wouldn't blame them too much. 21 Dev's working on 3 massive games under a short time in a pandemic with low budget, would obviously lead to a shitty product. They should have hired a studio with at least 100 Dev's and work on it till it was an actual overhaul, like the Saints Row 3 remaster
It's funny to think that Rockstar and Take-2, with all the billions they make, didn't want to spend an extra penny more on remastering their game so they went for the cheap option and hired a tiny company with almost nobody in it, lol. It's fascinating. If I were rich and I wanted to become more rich, I'd hire the best company to see my old work shine through in a new age, not hire some nickel and dime store.
Good timing uploading this after Rockshit announced that GTA+ garbage. Never forget that they cracked down on mods and removed the groundbreaking originals for this fucking travesty.
@@killman369547 RDR2s single player was old Rockstars Swan song. All the OGs like Dan Houser, Lazlow and Leslie Benzies are gone. It got hooked on that easy money and it's completely corrupted them inside and out.
I feel like the automatic turnaround could've actually worked, if the distant fog was enabled in all weathers (like it should've been). Imagine flying out endlessly in a straight line only to suddenly come back upon San Andreas from the other side of the map, could've been cool imo
As you mentioned the broken Carl model in remastered version, I'll like to hear you talk about it in this version too. Carl's model is even more broken in definitive than in remastered, insane
Calling it water is an insult to actual water... it's more like sludge. Other than that I wholly agree that UE4 does fantastic things, if only they bothered actually tweaking values. That AO is plain awful!
What did we learn? Let's not let ourselves be blinded by the shader and see what mediocre phone studio was in charge by the stinginess of Rockstar Games xD
Thank you for clarifying that GSG are not the ones to thank for the eye candy effects as they're just provided by the engine. I keep telling people that too.
Honestly, you're right. It seems to be a problem of GTA specifically though. GTA 1, London and 2 play best on PC. The PS1 ports are sloppy. GTA 3, VC & SA were at their prime on PS2 and got worse with every re-release. LCS lags like hell on PS2 but VCS on PS2 fixed some minor bugs from the PSP release, it just has this awful blur/ghosting effect, so this one is a mixed bag. Chinatown Wars lost some of its art style going from the DS to the PSP but I feel like this is more subjective. GTA IV & EFLC were built for the Xbox 360, downgraded on PS3 and one of the worse PC ports in history. PC version without patches doesn't even launch. GTA V imo improved a lot going from the PS3/360 to the PS4/Xbone/PC. So, only GTA V was upgraded with a re-release.
@@Manic_Panic LCS runs fine on PS2, on PSP it runs at locked 20 fps and looks a bit choppy. However it has a lot of frame drops on PS3 digital. VCS trails effect on PS2 can be turned off for a cleaner image and it includes some extra content such as a few more side missions and more buyable vehicles. Other than the Stories games, however, nearly every other GTA is at its prime in their initial releases and get worse with each new release
Yeah, but that takes integrity, something that most developers don't have nowadays. Besides, they can just keep patching it, pretending to care, and a lot of people will forgive them regardless.
It’s really quite sad how the definitive edition is now used to show how just much better the original trilogy is and that a “Definitive Edition” was never really needed. This video greatly showcases the differences of when a company cares about their products vs when they’re just looking for a cash grab. I really looked forward to seeing how these games would look and perform on much newer hardware and graphics engines yet what we have is a product that looks better and gets out performed by 20+ year old hardware. When RockStar puts love and care into their products they’re one of the best in the gaming industry. Unfortunately that RockStar is the original and the RockStar we have today is the Definitive Edition.
@@waledilson2757 What do you mean by “petty things”? Also you are insane to think rockstar will ever be normal again considering how the three most important people in the company are no longer there lol
Keep the original engine but update it with the newer rage engine on all the original games hell can do this for the original og trilogy 1 and 2 and london and could add 1964 with it.
It's sad to see that many people since the beginning defended this "Defective Edition". Saying that problems don't affect normal gameplay, and even outright calling us people "liars". They say we're blinded by nostalgia. Well, we can say the same to them, blinded by them "shiny graphics".
Thing is that the gameplay is mostly unchanged. The controls feel a lot better especially when first person aiming imo but thats all that was changed from gameplay. The same bugs and glitches that existed on the original versions are still there. Despite extensive documentation on the gta wiki, they did nothing about it. The real thing we wanted was a significant graphic improvement, so that the games were updated for modern gamers. The game still looks awful to me and I'm shocked at how many people say that it looks good.
@@floatinghamstick it looks good on GTA 3 and GTA Vice City because it fit the look and artstyle of the environments... it only looks off in San Andreas because of the characters models being vastly different from the previous 2 entries
Of course they didn't. To get anything past their adamantium/unobtanium alloy skulls you essentially need to go down there to their studios with an angry mob full of pitchforks and torches and hammer it into them.
Yeah no, they learned, they just don't care. They're going to keep farming out old games to small, understaffed studios with a shoestring budget and no time to actually do the games justice, unless that studio is Bluepoint. Bluepoint is amazing.
It depends on the studio/game. When it comes to Rockstar, the majority of the fanbase is just too nostalgic over them. Same goes with Nintendo where both studios can do no wrong at all. I feel like I've wasted money on Switch Expansion Pack and yet the fanbase tells people like me that we are poor and ungrateful, lmao. Yeah $50 for the year for an N64 game once a month if that even. I got it in October for Kirby and the game still isn't even there yet Lol
The funniest thing is that GSG demands you have a banchelor degree, strong debugging skills and 100% fluency in C++ to even ask for a job there, not to mention they also ask you have strong skills with other game engines like UE, Unity, etc. Lmao, I would never want to have in my resume those Defective Editions as projects
I would love for Vadim to do a video on all the stuff left in the game files at launch. From what I hear, the Switch version was an absolute Gold Mine for beta hunters.
It's funny because Grove Street Games already did that before with the mobile ports. That's how the community was reverse engineering it, a lot of dev files leaked that helped modders like the debug symbols.
I can’t fathom the fact actual people have the audacity to still defend this shit and call it a good game, boot licker isn’t even the proper term for those types of people anymore.
It's the "but it's all subjective"-front. Objectivity is dead, when we see problems with the version it's because we look at it wrong you know? Whatever man, normal human dipshittery, yup you have been born into this world. Crazy how it takes people 20 or so years to discover that our world is a mess, and the sad thing is, it doesnt stop at videogames.
I have bought nearly every GTA since the 1st one 2-3 times yet still I can accept when Rockstar screws up. I don't make money off their success or hiding their failures so why do I need to be blindly loyal? It makes no sense.
@@ThexDynastxQueen . Exactly and there's far better ways to play these games or there were for many years. Thanks Rockstar for delisting the originals on every platform other than your launcher. Was about to comment something similar. Yeah they'll probably change their name to "Liberty City Cocks" for the GTA 4 remaster and then "Los Santos Inc" for the PS6 enlarged and refined version of GTA 5.
The original ps2 version had a sort of orange spike Lee style filter that made everything look beautiful and matched that 90s socal aesthetic so well. I will always be shocked and puzzled that they got rid of it even wayyy back in the day with the PC port! Same for original Xbox. To this day, I know I’m looking at the true version when I see the orange haze
man i know exactly what you mean that orange haze in los santos, the blueish haze in san fierro, the yellow feel of the desert, it all just added so much aesthetic and feeling
Good video, as someone who uses unreal engine for work it's actually painful to see the amount of people that think the remaster has had a lot of work done for it, can't wait for part 352 :)
I think they tried to do all 3 games at once and that’s what caused a lot of this, they should of released each at a time and took care of each one with love, we would of been willing to play each one and would appreciate the effort a lot more. Halo did something like that not too long ago.
Huge problem I have with SA DE that many don't talk about is how each city has the same weather pattern and skybox making everywhere have the same atmosphere. In the original, San fierro and the countryside rained a lot and had a cold skybox and blue cold tint to the place. Where as LS and LV was often sunny and had a orange tint to it. The atmosphere and art style of the open world has been butchered. Glad you've covered this aspect.
@@madzmedia2 3d era GTA games were a vibe. Like GTA 3 was grimy, Vice City was colorful, San Andreas was a special feeling I couldn’t describe, but there’s what I said about the violet sky and also the orange sky in Los Santos at the end of the afternoon. What makes me sad is the fact that LCS and VCS are massively underrated, but they were great to. These games had their own vibe, especially on the PS2 versions
They just threw default effect from UE made for modern assets and textures and didn't cared to check if they would go well with how the atmosphere and artsyle were conceived. Honestly, if only we got the old games in HD with no alterations to hud, graphics and effects, i would be much better. Well, thankfully, Series consoles give us devmode.
20:20 - borders were even in original game, but barely seen - you had to carefully watch waves on water and you might notice how waves behind borders were out of sync with square inside.
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned anywhere yet, but in the DE, many of the rocks in the desert have glitchy collision. This can cause you to either go inside of the rock or stand in midair. There are also a few rocks that allow you to fall under the map, including at least THREE that let you re-enter Area 69's interior. This isn't a problem in the older versions because they either used much smaller rocks or didn't have any at all depending on the port.
I can only imagine how Dan Houser, Terry Donovan, Jamie King, Gary Forman, Leslie Benzies, Lazlow Jones and everyone who worked on the original 3 games and has left since feels about this abomination. They all put so much love into these 3 games and they keep getting smeared by Sam Houser, Strauss Zelnick and an incompetent mobile company that doesn't know how to properly port a game, doesn't know how to properly code and won't admit fault.
Thank you for covering these massive glitches/bugs in the definitive edition! I think most people should realise the current Rockstar is very much different from 8 years ago. The people that actually have passions for GTA franchise are actually leaving the company and these are the results we got. This makes you really appreciate all the work that was put into the original release by Rockstar back in the day, especially considering the limited resources of that time. @@KISSbestfan You're just reiterating what he said, but in a different context. You can easily push a console to its limits with badly optimized code. You'll just waste resources doing so. It's how the 16-bit era was, and the same applies to the PS2. Every year developers would find tips and tricks and do more with less while not changing how much actual power is required.
One of the things I miss about in the original is that at night if you look at the stars some will form an R letter referencing rockstar games and you can change the moonsize with a sniper but both are completely gone in the definitive edition
Ghosting might be more noticeable on consoles cause they run at lower fps. Clouds (the wire flickering is because of clouds too) suffer the same issue, is just very badly handled ghosting. Reflections are screen space based, that's why they don't respect depth.

The way I feel about the GTA Definitive Edition is just a kick in my gut. A once Iconic and beloved Trilogy being destroyed by utter incompetent talentless hacks posing themselves as Professional Games Developers is what Grove Street Games are. Another game that also suffered by the hands of incompetent talentless hacks are Hijinx Studios and they could not even care for the Silent Hill HD Collection and the 2 games were heavily documented on how broken they were so I will always compare them the same way. Both Konami and TakeTwo/Rockstar knew about those technical problems and they didn't even care but shipped the games out in a broken state and with this they told me they have no respect for their Legacy so because of their message I will not be pursuing any of their future games as they have lost me as a customer. PS the Original XBOX GTA Trilogy or the Playstation 2 GTA Trilogy is the only legal way to play them on either the official XBOX or PS2 hardware or back them up as a .ISO and run them using a PCSX2 emulator for PC. You get better visuals and everything remains intact and that is going to be the only closest way of playing GTA Trilogy on PC since Rockstar delisted them off steam and they will never reinstate it so the choice is yours.
The thing with vehicles spawning and despawning is a bug which has been happening since the original pc releases Speedrunners such as Joshimuz use this to manipulate traffic reduction when driving at high speeds This is useful for missions where there is a timer or races like high stakes lowrider given from Ceaser

The reason cars spawn when you move the camera is because in SA (contrary to VC), the game renders only what the camera looks at; as a result, it spawns cars in the area that wasn't previously rendered because the camera wasn't looking at that direction. @ZF24 Take your own advice.
@ZF24the past is better
@ZF24 Man ya'll the reason we get so many shit releases.
About some of the weird effects:
The flickering and pixelated effects are actually a somewhat recurring problem.

They used some kind of AI to manage upgrading textures and fonts and it’s trash
Sad things is, I _know_ AI can do a decent job if you put in effort. They literally automated the process and _still_ failed.

And they had the nerve to rename themselves to grovestreetgames lmao. I love it
I wouldn't blame them too much.

Years after the ‘Silent Hill HD’ remakes and the criticism of them the gaming industry has learnt very little.
Of course they didn't. To get anything past their adamantium/unobtanium alloy skulls you essentially need to go down there to their studios with an angry mob full of pitchforks and torches and hammer it into them.
They do learn
They just don't care, fixing their mistakes doesn't bring them money

The thing with vehicles spawning and despawning is a bug which has been happening since the original pc releases
Speedrunners such as Joshimuz use this to manipulate traffic reduction when driving at high speeds

Foggy distance objects are actually a real thing. Is called Atmospheric perspective or aerial perspective. This is the effect the atmosphere has on the appearance of objects viewed from a distance. As the distance between an object and a viewer increases, the contrast between the object and its background decreases, and the contrast of any markings or details within the object also decreases.
