My entire watch party was incredibly frustrated with the broadcasts gushing about Penn State at every opportunity. It was more about how Penn would do the smallest thing and get the biggest praise, where Oregon would do something equally or more I impactful and not receive the same praise. The moment that stood out for me the most was late in the 4th, less than 2:00 on the clock, Oregon was ahead and had the ball, and the broadcast team were discussing the impact on the CFP bracket if Oregon loses the game. After a broadcast full of praise for Penn State this seemed to put a bow on who they were trying to prop up. Why not discuss Penn’s path forward after losing what clearly seemed like the more likely outcome given the scenario. It reminded me of years ago in the PAC-12 where USC would by default get all the praise and it was about what they did wrong, not what Oregon did right, whenever things weren’t going there way. I think we have a few years of proving ourselves to the NBC and CBSs of the world
Same. Big play in a big moment by the Ducks, and Gary Danielson would say the PSU player was in really great position and look how fast Abdul Carter is.
The Ducks doesn't have to prove anything. We know who we are and what we can do and have done. Our Ducks are AWESOME and #1 in the nation. Don't care what NBC or anyone else says. We know how good we are. Thats what counts. The hell with those who wants to diss the Ducks. We know they are AWESOME. Don't care what others say. GO DUCKS!!!!
I'm glad you brought up the fact that a freshman who maybe was redshirting, made a big contribution. Shout out to Kingston Lopa. He's around 6'5 in so he made a good man to man cover guy for Warren. I had said last week that being able to play some freshman might be a good thing for Oregon, and it looks like it was. No more red-shirting needed for the playoffs. These kinds of things really help depth, and give the ducks options, which was my point.
Lopa has upside & I fully expect him to rotate in more over Savage. With his traits if he is on lock with coverage scheme & tackles well he could be a rangy safety we need.
Those screen passes drove me fucking nuts. We got NOTHING FROM ANY OF THEM. after 2 loss of a yard, we should’ve recognized that they were jumping it and ready for it and stopped that shit. We were 100% better off doing a HB dive, not to mention we were a half second away from a HB jumping the route
The one broadcast commentator who called Oregon a finesse team made me roll my eyes. Now one of the other commentators did chime in to correct him but still annoying.
They really don’t watch Oregon fb & it keeps showing up cuz Oregon since like 2018 has been very physical but they’re failure to see it is why they’re shocked at the ducks success
So.... I think "technically" we can say Oregon had blown coverages but I don't know that it was 100% the players fault. I believe Penn State was able to diagnose Oregon's rules for match coverage and dialed up routes designed to put the matches in conflict. So yes, the routes were blown but the players were playing how they were taught.
I think he deserves to be in New York... It's been a big, BIG reason why Oregon has won miniclip games this season and is the only undefeated team in the FBS. If I was in the profession on how to vote... I think the right vote would be Jeanty... If I were trying to remain objective. Hunter is certainly not even close to the best receiver or cornerback in college football... He's not the most important player on his team. So I don't know why we're giving it to a novelty I guess that's what it's for these days? For a really good story....I mean he's definitely something of a unicorn of a novelty!
While I agree, Jeanty’s team lost to the Ducks. The Ducks play in a better conference and had a better schedule and record. Now that doesn’t mean he will win it. Rookies also rarely win it and same with non QB’s. If that is true, it’s down to Gabriel and Cam Ward. You can make the case for all four finalists. Tell me why a QB in them won’t win it? Aren’t they more valuable than any other position?
Since it's kind of the offseason, here is a comp for you: Luke Moga is in the mold of Chris Harper. Athletically, he fits perfectly. Fast, powerful, and explosive athlete but a raw QB in an increasingly crowded QB room. Here's my take on Chris Harper: Harper, a 4-Star Athlete and Kansas native and incredible athlete, came to Oregon to play QB in Chip Kelly's first year as Oregon's new OC. The QB room conglomerate consisted of Justin Roper (3rd year sophomore and future Montana Grizzly), Nate Costa (injured preseason, Jeremiah Masoli (fresh transfer from JUCO), Darron Thomas (true freshman), and Chris Harper. Seemingly ALL the injuries to QB's that season forced Oregon to move Harper from the "utility infielder" as a RB and Slot WR into the primary QB role, and he led the Ducks on the game winning drive against Purdue in relief of Roper. After Masoli started the next game (a telling coaching decision considering it was Harper that came off the bench to win the previous game??), and then was also injured against a Boise State cheap shot, Harper was first off the bench. He was ineffective, to say the least, and got pulled in favor of Thomas. Masoli eventually came back and rolled, and Thomas was the clear heir apparent at the time. End result: Harper wanted to play QB, saw an opportunity to play closer to home, and transferred to Kansas State. After sitting out and redshirting due to transferring (remember that rule??), Harper was permenantly moved to Wide Receiver at KSU and played his final collegiate game in the Fiesta Bowl against...Oregon.
Evan Stewart has shown huge potential and the guy is an elite blocker, which you love to see. I’d love to have him back, he’s a stud. However, we have a lot of talent coming in. “It’s a good problem to have.”
Spencer the locked on nitty lions with Zach. He was on the field giving his post game speech. Not sure if it’s something you are interested in watching. I liked how he broke down the game
Now that we see the path for the Ducks, I’m more excited than ever to watch the CFP. We’ve beaten 3 of the top 6 teams in the field already. Likely we see 2 of the combinations of Texas, ND, and Georgia at some point who are the other top 3 teams we haven’t beaten this season. Literally has the making of the greatest college football season of all time for any program. Edit: Yes I know we have to go out there and perform and get the W’s. Just saying that this season wouldn’t be matched by any other team who has won in the BCS or CFP era.
This is why it seems clear that whoever selected the finalists for the Heisman Trophy prioritized team success over individual performance. When you compare Shedeur Sanders' numbers to Dillon Gabriel's, the disparity in individual achievements is undeniable-something else must have influenced the decision. Shedeur Sanders (Colorado Buffaloes): Passing Yards: 3,926 yards Completion Percentage: 74.2% Touchdowns: 35 Interceptions: 8 Passing Yards per Game: 327.2 yards Yards per Attempt: 8.6 Passer Rating: 168.8 Sanders broke school records for single-season passing yards and touchdowns while earning the prestigious Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. Dillon Gabriel (Oregon Ducks): Passing Yards: 3,558 yards Completion Percentage: 73.2% Touchdowns: 28 Interceptions: 6 Passing Yards per Game: 273.7 yards Yards per Attempt: 8.8 Passer Rating: 166.6 While both quarterbacks are exceptional, Sanders clearly outshines in many key areas, including passing yards, completion percentage, touchdowns, and yards per game. Yet, this wasn’t reflected in the Heisman finalist selections, raising questions about what factors truly influenced the process.
Even Stewart will come back next year. Didn’t rack up and stats this year (EXTREMELY) underutilized IMO, one of the only things I get mad at our team for is not using Estew this year. I feel he will come back next year and have a similar role as Tez has.
Couldn’t disagree more about who deserves it… I don’t know if Jeanty getting forced fed the ball 30+ times for stat padding against Wyoming/Montana (teams like that) is heisman worthy? And as The Duck said on McAfee, “snaps ain’t stats”. 100 yard receiving games against Cincinnati/Oklahoma st (teams like that), isn’t the same as 300 yard passing games & 4 td games against 3 different top 10 teams like DG did. While leading his team to be the only undefeated this season, plus the undisputed-consensus #1 ranking. Where I do agree tho, is that espn/media have already gave it to Hunter. Popularity contest.
The defense looked confused. There was communication super late in the play clock, people moving late, Penn State really studied us for 3 weeks when we locked in the CCG and you could tell. They were putting our defensive rules in conflict.
The Heisman Trophy is great and all, but they should account for the postseason. They value stat padding over winning, which devalues the award in my eyes. I agree with you on it being a boon.
Cook could be good but he is not a big deal. The GTech receiver is better. As long as they dont bring Bear Alexander who quit on his team half way through the season. Hudson or Lane from USC would be a better get at receiver in my opinion.
Agreed. The perception of Bear Alexander from friends in LA is that he's more of a "Me" kind of guy rather than a "We" kind of guy. Oregon should avoid players like this.
@@Gaijinthecat That is exactly. We hear a lot about being unselfish from this Ducks team. I don't see a guy like that fitting in the culture of this team. Maybe Dan knows him from his days in Georgia and thinks he can help him get on the right road. I don't think they need him.
I didn't necessarily think the announcing crew was biased, i just thought they were terrible at live commentary and fumbled over their words way too much. So many random remarks that didn't make the viewing experience better
Spencer help me out here... Dunne had a great punt in the game, fully agreed - but to my eye, he has been hitting punts like that all year and we (for some reason) never send anyone down to stop the ball from the endzone. We could have pinned almost every team inside the 10 on the majority of punts this year but never have anyone there to down the ball. Why not??
Exactly… in THIS game. Haven’t seen it most of the season… Maybe it’s another genius move by Lanning to make the regular season games harder and he’s just waited until now to start pinning opponents deep. 😂
You can’t shorten his last name to Gabe, because that’s a first name. It just sounds wrong. And Big Game Gabriel sounds a lot better than “big game gabe”
Surprised you didn’t mention the rumors going around that several player’s were battling the flu during the game. Maybe a reason the defense underperformed?
Brad Nessler was fine, but Gary Danielson definitely struck me as being slanted in the traditional Big Ten direction, particularly where penalty calls were concerned. He would eagerly point out when Oregon got away with a shaky call but go mum when Penn State similarly benefited. Danielson also did color for the Ducks' Fiesta Bowl romp over Colorado to cap the 2001 season, and he was discernably pro-trad in that game, too. He did at least tone it down for hopelessly lopsided Illinois game.
Williams Nwaneri has entered the portal, I know Dan and Tosh went hard after him before he stuck with the hometown Missouri Tigers, would love to see them make another run at him. Much better fit than Bear
It strikes me, Spencer, that the very tough path forward to the Championship is exactly the kind of thing that Lanning will use to fire up his troops. Just watch.
yeah gary was awful. brad nessler was great per usual. but every time oregon did something good gary would throw some slight backhanded comment at them
Gary Danielson was literally cheering when Penn State had a good play, and was silent or seemed annoyed when Oregon made good plays. You must have rewatched the highlights instead of the full game. It was blatantly obvious on the broadcast in my opinion. He’s from Purdue tho so what do you expect…? They replayed penalties that weren’t called on Oregon on touchdown plays, but didn’t replay any of the million holding calls Penn States O line got away with all night long. The refs did a good job in calling the game the same both ways. Penn States DB’s were man handling Stewart and Holden all night long
I re-watched every single play. Did not hear Gary doing anything different than he has my whole life. I looked for holding calls on Penn St, didn't see any
There should only be two viable candidates Jeanty and Gabriel, Hunter would not even be a serious contender with Colorado if the media were not obsessed with his coach. Hunter is a damn good DB and WR but being a damn good two way player on a 9-3 team should not make you a Heisman winner.
I’ve talked with a few Texas fans, and I really don’t want to see Johntay Cook, sounds like a real “me first” guy, the total opposite of a Danimal guy. Same reason I don’t want Bear Alexander anywhere near the team.
I’ve been saying this since Dan Lanning got the job at Oregon-there’s an aroma of bad luck surrounding him. Despite all the resources at his disposal and even with this perfect season so far, I don’t believe he’ll win a national championship this year. Why? I believe it comes down to his heart. I know this might be controversial, but in my opinion, Lanning has shown a selfish nature and has made heartless comments to coaches and players in the past. Until he fixes these issues, there will always be this aroma surrounding him. While the players undoubtedly love the game, they’re playing for those unmatched Nike bags-not for Lanning. Most of them don’t play for him at all; it’s a business transaction driven by other motivations. I’ve been saying this since he started at Oregon, and as always, we’ll see if it holds true this year.
Spencer, the only reason he is a finalist is because the Ducks are undefeated. Also because they beat great teams and because he is experienced. Does it mean he should win? No. Others had a better seasons.
For me, I’ll just never let Gary Danielson off the hook for his years and years of being a Tim Tebow worshipper. It was insufferable. It’s a me problem 😂
I’d love to see DG win the heisman, but sadly Travis Hunter is going to win Jo matter what. I don’t really understand why though. Hunters numbers are pedestrian on both sides of the ball. Who cares that he plays 150 snaps a game?
I don't think the Ducks are getting Johntay Cook. He should be going to Colorado. He commented, "I am not hard to find". He said that to Deion Sanders.
Evan Stewart isn’t going to the NFL 😂. Zero chance Stewart would get drafted before Tez. Seriously might be the worst opinion you have ever posted! Less than zero chance 😂 Stewart likely to get a lot more money in the portal than the draft…he wouldn’t get drafted if he declared!

Precisely
While I agree on the negative results of the side passes, the overall results meant that Penn State had to cover wide which helps open the middle.
How they didn’t react with a pump and go, running a wheel off of one of those screen looks. Not sure how that doesn’t get thought of.
Agree on CBS’s coverage. The only comment that seemed off to me was when Danielson said Oregon’s offense was uncomfortable when not in hurry up
I heard that one and agreed but that's a pretty small thing
Shout out to Dontae manning too. He’s stepped up big time.

Hey Spencer, Do you think that if Dillon had put up more passing yards per game, he would have been the favorite to win the Heisman?
Yes, that's the #1 thing holding him back from winning it--not enough yards

I know this might be controversial, but in my opinion, Lanning has shown a selfish nature and has made heartless comments to coaches and players in the past. Until he fixes these issues, there will always be this aroma surrounding him. While the players undoubtedly love the game, they’re playing for those unmatched Nike bags-not for Lanning. Most of them don’t play for him at all; it’s a business transaction driven by other motivations.
I’ve been saying this since he started at Oregon, and as always, we’ll see if it holds true this year.
Archangel Gabriel
Spencer, the only reason he is a finalist is because the Ducks are undefeated. Also because they beat great teams and because he is experienced.
Does it mean he should win? No. Others had a better seasons.
Correct
Good. The Heisman is a curse. Ask Mariota😢
Dont forget mariota

For me, I’ll just never let Gary Danielson off the hook for his years and years of being a Tim Tebow worshipper. It was insufferable. It’s a me problem 😂
I’d love to see DG win the heisman, but sadly Travis Hunter is going to win Jo matter what. I don’t really understand why though. Hunters numbers are pedestrian on both sides of the ball. Who cares that he plays 150 snaps a game?
Why are we throwing 5,6 Wr screens a game Penn State was flying covering the flat we never run a fake off that play
People can say Nix is a better QB, I agree but DG shows up better in big games. I’d take DG over Nix as a college QB.
Hawaiian shaved ice. Lmao
Haha I think "Hawaiian Ice" is good
Im getting sick of jordan james jogging out of bounds when he should be smacking guys and staying in bounds....i miss bucky
The #8 jersey should be retired after this year. The only time it can be brought out is for Hawaiian football players.
Heisman is not limted to quarterbacks. ❤
I don't think the Ducks are getting Johntay Cook. He should be going to Colorado. He commented, "I am not hard to find". He said that to Deion Sanders.
If he wants a screen as o-line he should fit fine
Evan Stewart isn’t going to the NFL 😂. Zero chance Stewart would get drafted before Tez. Seriously might be the worst opinion you have ever posted! Less than zero chance 😂 Stewart likely to get a lot more money in the portal than the draft…he wouldn’t get drafted if he declared!
