There are helmet Schmidt loads of videos about this aircraft on RUclips but this one is the most useful not partly because of the amount of Plainview flown obviously who are hanging up behind you. You obviously know what you’re doing and you have helped me to choose this plane. Thank you very much for your valuable help and keep on doing what you’re doing mate….!
Thanks Andrew, great review as always. I have the same plane and crashed it badly quite a while ago. The fuselage was cracked around the motor, so I plastic welded the cracks using a hot soldering iron. The repair is not so pretty, but it has held together perfectly for lots of flights since. Very happy with the plastic welding. I fly it with a 2S battery and a 3S battery. I have programmed two models into my Tx with the second model for the 3S battery having the throttle set to maximum 60% to not overcook the ESC and motor. Seems to work fine.
Thanks for that Andrew. Took your advice and went for the Phoenix 2000 V2 and must say it’s a very nice model and great value for money. If they ever do a V3 and it has auto connect for the wing servo’s then I would say it would be perfect!!!
Great review Sir Andrew thorough everything completely covered and more that's what I like about your videos you do the hobby an honor and go the extra mile or kilometres in your case thank you
I got the KIT version for EUR 62 from the CN warehouse during the pre-sale in October. It flies great. I also own the old Phoenix 1600 and the latest Phoenix 2400. Love those fuselages (undestructable) and wing clips! I haven't seen anything more user friendly so far. Fitted with F411 Wing and 3S 3000mAh LiIon pack. The S is more agile than the 1600. I suspect that is due to the shorter fuselage and changed wing shapes. On the other hand, I think the old 1600 generates somewhat more lift and would probably be the better slope soarer / glider of the two. The new S version feels nimble like the Bixler series or X8 SkySurfer. It is also quite fast in my setup (+/- 100km/h) and has loads of power. Comparison with the Phoenix 2400 in terms of flight characteristics is unfair, however in terms of build: virtually exactly the same, but scaled down. Parts list, mounted from front to rear: - The standard volantex 10x6 folding prop and red spinner - Volantex 4023 1050KV motor - 3S homebuild LiIon 3000mAh pack (Sony VCT6) - URUAV 30A ESC (without BEC) - Matek F411 Wing, running Inav - Geekcreit VK2828U7G5LF GPS module - Eachine TS5823L 200mw VTX - Caddx Turbo Micro F2 FPV cam Have designed and posted several 3D printed parts to mount the above. I have ordered the kit. just to make shore i have good servo's and i have hered the 2212 is under powered. Choice is 2836, 4023/1050 or GT2218/1100. Will see when it gets here form the slow boat. Good review Andrew
I use those props on my Flite test bloody wonder builds and manually cut them down to the recommended 8x6 for the 1400kv motor I use, useful to know I can give it a try on 2a with an unmodified 10x6 prop.
Good review Andrew. I bought the kit version and have fitted a N2830/1000kva motor. I have both original 2000 and 1600 versions both using 1000kva motors with original prop set up.Had a problem attaching the wings. With one side plugged in the other would not. Did not matter if I plugged left or right panel in first the second panel would spring out and not click in. Fixed it by relieving the clip a little. I think the material for the body is a bit different, it seems slightly more flexible. I do like the clip in wings and the large hinges on the control surfaces. I have yet to finish and test fly the Phoenix 1600S yet . Weather here in SA is shocking only plus being at the moment is no fires like our eastern states cousins.
My Phoenix 2000 has an externally mounted Sunnysky to keep it cool... R9MM, Flight Controller and iNAV in case it tries to fly off....lol....Great plane.
I lke mine but afew tiny issues, i got kit and it did not come with ply lipo tray, also fuselage has cracked around wing seat due to a heavy landing, but great plane
Question. Excuse me if I missed it -confess to skipping through what seemed superfluous in pre-buy research mode viewing multiple vids, but are the (PNP) two aileron servo extension leads supplied in this kit long enough to reach the RX individually in order to set up spoilerons using two servo channels -i.e. sans Y splitter to the single aileron channel?
I'm on the verge of committing to this model. (My first 'full size' model) Planning to get a flysky 6channel tx and rx combo. And 2x1500mah 2s lipo at 40c. Also a gyro. Any suggestions for alternatives would be appreciated. Likewise if you think this setup will be OK please let me know.
Yes, good gear. If you had a bit more money I would recommend the Radiomaster Boxer 4in1 or Zorro 4in1 for more flexibility and functions. But the FlySKY FS-i6 is good. Maybe get the FS-i6X 10 channel if you can.
Hi Andrew, I was planning to buy this guy but I read everywhere that spares parts are hard to find. do you think the 2 m version wings can go on it in last chance? thanks a lot.
My shaft snapped off as I was throttling up to to maiden it. Any recommendations on a replacement motor? Even if you stay with the same 2212 and 1400kv, not sure some of the outrunner motors out there are going to fit.

Good call Paul. Would need to drill a hole for the front spar to pass through the fuselage, or add a CF rod through the single spar. Easy job and I will try it. Plenty of rain here. We need to send it north to the fires.
Hi Andrew, have just discovered your channel and am loving all the content - thank you! Am thinking of getting the Phoenix S RTF as I'm a relatively new flyer. Does the Phoenix come with a separate receiver and gyro (Volantex X flight?). As you suggest, I wanted to have the option to get a better programmable transmitter later - but wanted to keep the option of flight stabilisation ( I know, it teaches you bad habits! I have been learning on a micro plane without it, but would still like it as a safety blanket 😉). Thank you

Try repeated flexing of the hinges, or if that's not enough you might need to slice through some of the hinge length. Make a 2cm cut every 2cm along the hinge
