- Anna Sebastian Perayil, a 26-year-old chartered accountant working at Ernst & Young (EY) India’s Pune branch, allegedly passed away due to work-related stress, causing significant uproar online. She had collapsed just months after joining the company. Her mother, in a letter to EY India’s chair Rajiv Memani, mentioned the intense stress Anna faced at work. The Union Labour Ministry has acknowledged the complaint and is launching an investigation. The Minister of State for Labour also confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the ministry is taking up the matter.

This is the same case with Railways. Since central govt is the culprit, no such enquiries. We hv to work 24*7 without proper rest. Luckily I took a bold decision to resign from railways
The main reason is companies have less employees and lot of work and manager want less people to complete more and more work in given time and paying less to employees and paying huge packages to the CEO. Why these companies don't hire more employees when there is a lot of work. Only one thing can change this pay hourly basis. The companies think monthly salary is a new way to exploit.
Companies hire less and use existing employees to work in place of two employees. Why you saying other way round. This leads to overwork and unemployment. Also, they bill 8 hours even if you work for 14. 40 hours mandatory learnings, CSR mandatory activities, work late calls inhiman deadlines is a fact for EY. Work there and see. Even if you are FTE they will trouble you on leaves, unwell then too, you are a machine a slave that's all.
I did try to complain HR about my manager. In spite of encountering concerns with management. I don’t know what HR said. But my manager ruined my life and mind for 6 months. Stating I have attitude problems. Later I didn’t got good increment that year.
The way manager treats and expects to receive call every time when our phone rings. Ridiculous.
I have lost my confidence, spark and spirit to stay positive which took years to built.😢
I don’t know WHAT EXACTLY MANAGMENT DOES FOR EMPLOYEES?!?
This is happening in all EY even in the Middle East. I worked in the administration and faced the same problems as you auditors. I just kept quiet as we needed the job.
The reason behind such toxicity is due to poor resource management. Big four auditing firms charge on hourly basis from their clients for deploying resources ranging from analyst to managers. However they deploy less number of resources for cost cutting, for example assigning one analyst in place of two consultants, this increases individual work load .
The leadership team should take full responsibility and step down
Sorry to ask but how did she die? Like was it a sudden death? Lack of food and sleep was she found dead? Was it a suicide?
The positioned mgr feel themselves as their own company and treat employees as their slave
Sad 😢
RIP
