I have read it... it is seriously a difficult one to get through. It is confusing at times and also SUPER overwhelming. I appreciate the trigger warnings that you provided for others. It is necessary, wish I knew before reading.
Have you read "End of days" Jenny Erpenbeck? (written originally in German) It has a very similar plot to "Life after life", but the girl who we follow is herself Jewish (therefore one of her life's end in a concentration camp, while in others she survives by "passing" as a Gentile). There is also "the first 13 lives of Harry August" in which the guy actually remembers being reborn over and over, which is more fantasy/sci-fi. Are you going to review "A God in ruins"?
Hi Ruby. Not yet but it sounds interesting. I will see if my library has it. Yes, I will review "A God in Ruins" at some point this year. Right now, I'm reading a few other books and my OverDrive loan list is full. I will let you know when I post it though. :)
I also enjoyed The First 13 Lives of Harry August and have reread parts of that book (as I do Life After Life) from time to time. As you mention Harry remembers being reborn and is able to carry over the knowledge and lessons he's learned during each life whereas poor Ursula only has an inkling or premonition at crucial moments that she should react or behave differently to save her life or the lives of loved ones. I'm glad both books explore how that knowledge or lack of knowledge affects those characters, and how both may or may not have been able to find another for support (Harry with the Cronus Club, Ursula with the doctor she'd seen for a little while). And, with full understanding how they proceed in their next lives, where they end up, etc. I haven't read End of Days but will definitely do so now--thanks for your recommendation!!
Well covered. Difficult to read in places. But definitely by living through it all we know we can overcome and rebuild our own worlds...

Thank you for this helpful review! It's a daunting book....
