I saw this band in a club in Portland Oregon on March 28th, 1980, the day after Mt St Helens blew. It was snowing ash steady. I bought their 45 record. It came in only a paper sleeve. I put it in my coat on the way back to the ship I was on in the port. I never bothered to play the record because it was coated in volcanic ash.
Rindy Ross, Pat Benatar, Patti Smyth, the Heart sisters, Lita Ford and, last but not least, Martha Davis were definitely haunting my dreams in the 80's!
The 80s. Music will never be the same. I was born in 1960. The 80s I was in my 20s. The music played a big part in my life. Now, at 64, when I hear music from the 80s, it takes my age away.
Knew of this song way back when, liked it, did not know the lead singer also was the saxophonist. She and her husband formed this band in their college years. They're still active in music out there in the Pacific NW. They seem to have their stuff together very nicely. Allow an older guy a moment here... Doesn't it seem like bands used to be made up of less-packaged real people... like this?
Joe just ignore the comments from dizzypilot. he/she is just a troll, I can't stand what these people are hanging onto with the whole same old tired racist bit, it's all non sense. Just carry on with your memories and cool stories Quarterflash is great!
THEPINKFLOYDPORTAL dizzypilot is a white guy being facetious because racism is such a hot topic at the moment. He probably comments on videos of puppies about how the white puppy of the pack is privileged, etc.. He's fishing for someone to validate what he's saying. I can only imagine what his Facebook feed looks like.
love what you wrote Patty. all very true, I see him comment on a lot of 80s videos all the time. he had the nerve to call me a slimey bitch and I was like wtf? that dude needs to get a life.
My mother had this on vinyl! I have always loved this song. The saxophone is what gets me. More artist today should be this talented. She sings and plays an instrument. There is definitely no '"auto tune" in this piece!
Marv Ross wrote this great song and how proud he looks on stage seeing his beautiful and talented wife Rindy pouring her heart and soul out singing this song with such a unique voice and as good as sax player that I've ever heard! She KILLS this song and if I was lucky enough to be married to her I would beg her to sing this to me nightly!! Any one else have this song playing in your head for three days like I do?
One of The Greatest American Rock and Roll Songs, Ever Recorded, by Miss Rindy Ross on Saxophone and Lead Vocals, Ladies and Gentlemen, This is Quarterflash
In 1982, America was full of flying and crawling talented pop artists. Among them, QuarterFlash proudly survived as a pop group with talent and ability. Marv Ross and Rindy Ross, singer-songwriter who led QuarterFlash.
I agree 100%. Music was magical back then. There was such a hotbed of talent back then that seemed to burst on the scene at the same time. It was always consistently good. Whatever happened to that? Growing up I heard new songs on the radio and I was in love instantly with them. That never happens anymore. A few good songs I like but that's it. Music has changed to much, and not for the better. Does anyone rave about today's music? Most is forgetable.
Elwood Call .... Took me a few decades to truly appreciate Rindi's talent .... .... Around same time period, Linda Spa (Tangerine Dream) came into the limelight with her enchanting wind-instrument solos
The one thing that kept me persevering with the film, 'Rock Of Ages', was the opportunity to have my nostalgia glands tickled by songs like this. Gahd, where did the time go..?
What a voice and some great toe tappin' rhythm, now throw in that saxaphone. All the makin's of a great song. What ever happened to such a great group ?
Known in Portland as Seafood Mamma before they got famous. Two high school teachers and their band. If she was your English teacher would you show up for class?
+James Mason Hell yes. I was in AP English and had the same teacher for both sophomore and senior years. She was only 28, just as pretty as Rindi, and she liked Monty Python and the rock group Rush too. Still my dream girl, 32 years later.
I was 19 when this came out remember cruising in my new Camaro listening to this cassette....wow...what a kind year that was.....now im almost dead....
She's divine, her sax, her voice, what a woman.
She's gorgeous and feminine. Wish ladies were like her nowadays

OMG! I had totally forgotten about Martha Davis!
Those weren't hauntings, those were visits from angels. :)
...and, "the Heart sisters". That would be Anne and Nancy Wilson. The former of which brought Robert Plant to tears singing Stairway to Heaven.
Millington sisters, June & Jean (Fanny)!
Laura Brannigan
2024 this song is still a classic
One of the most underrated bands of this generation.

NOT NICE RESPECT RT
I don't usually do nostalgia, but if there's one thing today's music could use more of, it's epic sax solos.
Damn right
Like Candy Dulfer
I need a Deloreon to go back in time and see this Awesome Band!
Discovered it again, one of the best ❤ 53 year old

dizzypilots1 I'm curious about your comment. What is there about this band that would bring up "white privilage".

If you were a teen during the 80s, you were lucky.
Help
I can listen to this over and over and never get tired of it. What a gem! "You gave me your word, but words for you are lies.."

early 80's music was the best and that's a fact! loved being a teenager in the 80's.

2022 and it's still as sweet as ever!... This was one of the very many songs that made the 80s such a special era.
I haven't heard this song in over 30 years, and still know even lyric and note. Bizarre. Sexy track. She's killer on the sax, sexy instrument.
The one thing that kept me persevering with the film, 'Rock Of Ages', was the opportunity to have my nostalgia glands tickled by songs like this. Gahd, where did the time go..?
Smokin hot Rindy!

Ah ces années 80 la meilleure période musicale sans aucun doute
Music back then was from the heart..

Good question.
I was 19 when this came out remember cruising in my new Camaro listening to this cassette....wow...what a kind year that was.....now im almost dead....
