23 year laters there are only 3-4 of these rooms thet i have actually been inside. all are new to me. I havent seen many of these rooms even in max Payne breakdown videos
I think the console limitations actually helped - it forces you to perfect what you have with the available memory/performance. Like GTASA had smog and grainy/gloomy effects in the forests, meaning distant objects didn't have to be loaded in, and it created an atmosphere. The 'Definitive Edition' removed all that, because they could load in the entire map, and it looked awful, too clean, and made the map look tiny.
@@stefanhernold345 Ofc it'll be cutting edge as arcades were still more popular than these 3D games back then up until 2003-04. This video is 100% proof of the fact that the graphics are not what matter at all. A game is supposed to be fun and have a soul of it’s own, a form of art with a beautiful story rather than just visual quality.
Wow, I’ve played through this game at least 10 times and I had no idea about that last secret room in Byzantine Power Game! Love it when I find out something new about one of my favorite games of all time.
I'm sure developers still are, but even Rockstar have Take Two forcing them to push microtransactions and not allow them to make story DLC for GTA or RDR2 (even though it would've made millions, and would have made more than gold bars in RDO). Also, most old games were clunky crap - we only remember the good games, and when you play them again even most of those aren't good. I wouldn't swap GTAV or RDR2 for any game before them. I do fear for GTAVI though - seems like it could be a woke GTAO extension, with cheap music, and a worse map.
@@goatlpsrockstar started going down the drain with GTa5 which was objectively not a good game (bad plot, no motivation to replay, just the BS multiplayer for the braindead mass), RDR2 was the nail in the coffin No plot, nothing
6:43 I didn't know about this one! I really love the message they left 😂 The last one at the very end I knew, the secret level after you finish DoA mode
1:50 I remember playing the crap out of Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix, it was the first FPS I got on my PC. I remember my dad getting appalled by the gore.
Amazing compilation, it brings so many memories from my childhood. Max Payne 1 and 2 were some of the best intense games of all-time, with amazing story-telling, voice-acting and game mechanics!
Back when AAA game developers actually had fun creating something truly special, and publishers actually loved the product and respected the gaming community.
Wow. Didn't know about 6/14 rooms here, and I completed the game like 15 times.. in mny different ways xD To be fair, some of them - especially last 2 - are very well hidden. But yeah. Developers went above and beyond to put stuff into this game - and not just rooms, but some small hidden mechanics too. Thanks for the vid :)
Which resolution do you use? My image is kind of stretched. Do you use some special settings or so? Nice video! I've already played through the game so many times, but I haven't been aware of most of the rooms yet.
You know how to surprise. I passed max Payne 8 times in my life and did not know more than half of the rooms. Especially the bdsm costume of the secret circle is a novelty.
Yeah I've played the game several times and hadn't seen the panic room/dungeon and I don't recall the Buffy one but at the same time think I might have seen it before and just forgotten.
I loved the amount of interactivity in this game. Graphics horrible but everything felt lively. Way more than a photorealistic modern game but where the world feels frozen and forced to play it linear. In some way the interiors even remind me of the old Animal Crossing games. You see a TV, you can turn it on. In Max Payne you had multiple ways of completing a level using the environment. Max Payne 2 was awesome as well.
What does Soldier of Fortune have to do with this game? Guess a developer really liked it? Captain Broussard might have had something to do with them and 3D Realms
Absolutely nothing like this in MP3, it's completely linear - you enter through one door, shoot the bullet sponge enemies, and exit through the only other exit, repeat. MP3 is massively overrated. The most annoying part is the unskippable 'cutscene' monologues, which are actually load screens - then, after a couple of minutes, you rejoin the game completely in the open, getting shot up, and discover they've switched the machine gun you were holding for a pistol! There's no melee weapons or even grenades, just guns. Very short too - the speedrun WR is 72 mins? 6/10 at best.
Some secrets are unavailable because bigger chapters got split into multiple sub-chapters where you can't return to earlier areas. Some areas were also just cut from these sub-chapters. The one in Roscoe Street Station is not there because the door doesn't open. The one in Police Brutality is unavailable because the rooftop you start the fight with Vinnie got walled up. The one in Ragna Rock isn't there because just the area above got cut.

I didn't know about maybe 3 out of every 4 rooms and when I played I explored every nook and cranny. Looks like I didn't. One-eyed man.
I'll replay this again over the Christmas holidays and try some of these.
The OST & ambience sound of this game is something, oh man, good memories of playing it on the intel celeron600 of my cousin 🤣
Never noticed that Buffy reference on the third one.
God I loved this game still being back memories, I really like the names of each chapter plus the music I can still here in my mind
