- Reading is one of the main ways I use my iPad mini. I’ve considered purchasing a kindle/ e-reader but do I really need to spend the extra money? After some debate on my other social media pages I feel confident in using my iPad mini for reading.
I’m going to share some tips and Tricks that will enhance the reading experience on the mini and make it enjoyable.
The iPad doesn’t have an E-Ink screen but with some adjustments you can get similar results. Plus using the iPad mini and Apple Pencil will give you a similar experience to the kindle scribble.

I like that sticker: a book a day keeps reality away. Awesome sticker.
I just got an anti glare screen protector and it definitely made a hugeeeeee difference. I also changed the color filter on my iPad to black and white so that it will resemble a kindle when I want to relax.
I can easily switch from black and white back to color by clicking the power button 3 times
Anti glare does indeed make a huge difference! I can attest to that as I enjoyed reading on my tablet a lot more, and for longer periods, after I got an anti glare screen.
I’m the complete opposite, I have the kindle paperwhite e reader and now I want the Apple mini just for the Apple ecosystem but I don’t need it 😅 nice case cover and pop socket. I do love the kindle for reading a whole lot but this is definitely a nice alternative for those who already have the mini. No need to purchase a kindle.
Thanks!! And agreed! I had to talk myself down from the purchase lol
Going though this dilemma right now 😅
don't, it will hurt your eyes a lot especially if you read for hours
@@sayuriakirayuu7944I get massive migraines and I have never had an issue using my iPad to read on. I prefer it over my paper white
@@sayuriakirayuu7944yeah, I bought the bullet and purchased my kindle. It was the best decision I made!
I’ve finally given in to reading on a device. I’m using my large iPad and researching Kindle vs the mini. I download books from my libraries. Since this concept is new to me ( at 70) I have questions. Been watching many videos. You gave me food for thought‼️ Thank you
RUclips super wants me to buy a mini even though I have a Pro and a Kindle Paperwhite, and sent me this video. I loved it! Your voice is soothing and I love the intro and your end result. i saw someone else had recommended double-sided tape for the stickers and I wanted to second that: just a smidge from one of those cute Japanese tape rollers is what I use and it comes off easily too.
Reading journal!!! What a good idea!
It turned out looking so beautiful as well as functional! Love that, great idea for ppl who don't want to spend extra money on something they technically already have
I think you've convinced me to get an iPad mini instead of replacing my Kindle which just stopped working for no reason a few months ago. I've had three iPads and even my oldest (iPad 2nd generation) is still working to this day, so this is a sign I need to stick with Apple. Great video!
Thank you for sharing. I love the set up. 😊
Great video. Thank you so much. The matt screen helped my eyes.
I love reading on my iPad… love it. I have my paper white, which I read on a lot as well. I like the iPad for reading/ audible together is fantastic. It highlights the words as it reads to you. I use it primarily for fantasies
I absolutely loved the tip for do-not-disturb focus mode while reading. Wow, what a fantastic way to avoid being distracted, or interrupted by notifications! THANK you for this idea 😊
I’ll start doing the same. This is such a game changer!!!
So many smart ideas thank you 🤯
Oh this was brilliant! Thank you! I was considering getting a mini iPad as I’m not getting along with my kindle at all. This was so helpful, thank you!
Ugh loved this video! def sold me on that case too lmao! I use my iPad for everything and reading on it is a musttt for me 🖤
That's cool, I'm just entering the Apple ecosystem and I'm loving it. I have a Kindle Oasis, but I miss the colored covers and I want to buy an iPad mini to read and study, in addition to everything I can do on it. Thank you for your video.
Well done. Tht mag pop socket? Idint know tht ws even availible, the croc cover? Very cool. Thank you. Stay safe.🍷
So aesthetically pleasing, love this.
❤️❤️
Reading in an ipad is an amazing experience. It’s all a digital reader could ever want and more. Plus books are free. Nothing can top that. ❤
How is it reading pdf files? I'm thinking of investing in a second hand ipad just to read pdfs... any advice? :)
@@rubahillawi epub files are much better than pdf. The ‘books’ app in ipads has features like highlighting, notes, trackers, and so much more. Buying an ipad is worth every penny
@@mersss14 Yes I understand that epub is better but the research papers I read and other resources like sheet music and papers not written in English are all in pdf. That's why I'm wondering what pdf reading is like.
@@rubahillawi don’t worry, same features apply to pdf and epub files. Still great
@@mersss14 Thank you :)
Love video ❤
Love this, you earned a subscriber
excellent..thankyou!
you know the more i read on the differences for reading between e-ink tech vs an ipad i think the e-ink is better for one's eyes and long term reading....hope you'll get an e-reader too and do your own comparision over a few months...kobo and others are coming out with new ones this yr too, and some will have the new carta 1300 e-ink (vs 1200) for greater contrast.
Thank you! Try double sided tape dor the stickers 😊
New subbie 😊 Thanks so much for this video! I’ve always had an iPad but didn’t know I could access the kindle app from it. I love to read but having the actual book is not always feasible for me even tho I prefer the physical pages 😊 Now to go find your video on the focus page set up, yours was so cute!
Excellent video 👏👏👏👏
new sub here...wonderfully useful video, thanks....i have an ipad 10.5 and tweaked it per your vid (already has a screen protector)....looking forward to the new ipad mini 7 when it debuts so will pick it up and use it for an e-reader: way more versatile too than a traditional e reader too esp if you want to browse magazines or such with coloured illustrations, maps etc.
This is such helpful information, thank you for sharing. My dad had a Kindle but they are not supported in Canada. He really misses it. He has an iPad and likes the technology but it’s a bit too big and bulky for him to read books on.
I’m over here debating whether or not to purchase the nook or the iPad mini. Can you do a detailed video of setting up your mini for reading. Like the widgets and setting up the focus etc. please and thank you 😊
So many good ideas! Thank you! This video and sound quality is so good btw. I’m still saving up for an iPad mini. I’ll probably have enough when the next version comes out! :D
Same! I hope to get one by Q1 2025
I love everything about this video. My iPad mini six looks ridiculous right now because all of the stickers have faded off. So I was already in the market for a clear case and now I see I’m gonna have a fight with the stickers. Lol. But I think it’ll look better and I won’t have to worry about the stickers fading. I definitely like the idea of the magnet and the pop socket. Going to try that out as well. I think placement might be something I have to get used to and also I’m wondering if I could find a magnet that matches this pearl color- Starlight I think is the color of this one I have. Overall, great video and super helpful. Thank you!
I myself just ordered an older model of the iPad mini to do the exact same. This is so cool!
You will love it!!
Which model do you recommend??@terrelltruss
@@marifergarcia9115 it depends on how quickly you want to navigate on your iPad mini. I believe I have the iPad Mini 3, and it is a bit slow to use for anything outside of reading via the Books app. However, I only spent $50 through eBay for it.
If you’ll use it for more than reading, a higher model may be more rewarding! I just needed a cheap option for books I wanted to read!
@@marifergarcia9115
The model you choose should depend on how fast you want to navigate between multiple apps, per my recommendation.
My iPad Mini 3 was $50-$60, but because I only use it for reading, I’m okay with it moving a bit slower. Newer models are handy if you’re doing more than reading through the iPad Mini! Just my thoughts! 🙏🏼
**Hope I’m not double-commenting. Thought my reply went through earlier!
I have the ipad air, and a kindle but i want kobo for the annotation! I have been debating on getting a mini since reading on the air is too big
Hello new subscriber here 👋🏾 I love your page. I’m waiting for the newer version of the mini to drop This spring 🤞🏾
Welcome!! ❤️
I agree: an iPad Mini is ideal, and so much more versatile than a Kindle. I admit, I'm a little troubled by the addition of stickers, but impressed the ways you managed your reading experience.
i LOVED my skin. i have one on both of my ipads. i have the 12.9 and the mini and skins are so beautiful
Ahh I really want one!!! Have you had any issues with the removal?
none at all. The putting it on process sucks tho@@ashleedigitalstudio
I just download a reading journal I bought from Etsy and it’s similar to yours. It’s so satisfying to see you do it so fast and it’s pretty how they are filling up as you read more books currently I have only one book even though I read more I like to know how I can be better at logging my reading journal can you make a video on how you made it a widget and access it fast plus steps on how to log. Thanks I currently have mine on good note but I’m not sure if that’s correct since it looks complicated ❤
I sure can! I will get a video up soon!
You can set up "Smart Activation" in your Focus Mode so that it turns on automatically when an app is in use. Mine is set that when I am using the kindle app, the Reading Focus automatically activates.
I love this video so much, it's sent me on a complete spiral looking at kindles, ipad minis, styluses for my phone, and even the samsung fold phone lol! My DREAM would be to be able to use the apple pencil with my phone or even use the ipad mini as a phone. I have a 7th gen ipad and a 1st gen apple pencil that I don't want to replace because I just can't seem to justify having a pro max iphone AND a mini! I know I'd never use my phone haha! :)
I would love the option to use my mini as a phone!! That would be so convenient
I might just get a mini instead of the kindle.
Hi! I LOVE this video!
Trying to get your same Moterm case and looks like yours may be sold out. Can you use any planner that’s A6 size? Can you point me in the right direction? Thank you so much and bought everything! 🥳
Thank you so much! I think the A6 size would work. I found a nice alternative at Target it’s the Threshold Zipper Tech case with pockets. See if you like that one.
@@ashleedigitalstudio you’re amazing!! Thank you so much.
Looks lovely but I don’t like reading on my iPads. I read on my kindle and use my iPads for everything else.
Hi, great video! Have you used libby app on your iPad? Do you have any issue using your pencil on the mate protector? I read that pencil’s tip wears down faster. Thanks
Hi thank you! I haven’t tried the Libby app yet but I plan to. I haven’t had any issues with my pencil and the matte protector or with the top wearing down
Do you have a video on how you do your reading journal?
I’m working on one now
@@ashleedigitalstudioit looks really cool!
One of the reasons I got an iPad Mini was for reading. I have a Kindle Paperwhite, which is great for light recreational reading, but for reading texts and books for school, the iPad gives me a much easier way to annotate and take notes. I've been using the iPad for reading since I got my first iPad years ago. When traveling it is great to have only one device to take along and the mini does it all. The response time to downloading, opening, and turning pages is faster on the mini than the paperwhite. I'm going to have to try the green background, I'm using the cream one now.
You’re right! The mini is a perfect all in one! Thanks for the other info on the kindle
Can you also provide the link for the mag safe adapter you added to the pop socket? I can’t seem to find it on Amazon… but that pop socket is sitting in my cart waiting!!
Here’s the link to the one I use amzn.to/3wQ7kHx
@@ashleedigitalstudio thank you! 😊
Does it gets heavy on the hand after reading for a while as compared to kindle? I’m still deciding which one to get ! Nice video btw💕
Not at all! The pop socket really helps ❤️
I like how you can switch between reading and your reading journal so easily! What reading journal do you use?
It’s part of my digital planner but I also have a reading journal pad that includes all the templates
i want a kindle or an ipad for reading, its annoying to keep on finding a book and paying for it to use it. do u use anything else on the ipad? and if a book has one or two pics in the book, does the kindle show it
I use my iPad for everything!! Lol it’s like my second brain. I use it planning, taking notes, journaling and budgeting just to name a few.
I can’t find my add action button on my iPad
Does the iPad mini support the nook and kindle reader apps ?
It does 🤗
I have a kindle and it's amazing, i love it. But since a month ago i have an ipad air and i think if you are thinking abt buying an ipad or a kindle, go for the ipad. I think it's better if ure a student, it'll work perfectly for studying and entertainment!
How to active word wise on ipad kindle???
I want to know too. I can use word wise on my samsung phone but can't found it on my Ipad.
Lol I have an almost identical setup
Is it safe to use a MagSafe pop socket on the mini
I haven’t put it directly in the mini. It’s attached to a clear case on the mini.
Is the matte screen protector good?!
I like it especially when i use my Apple Pencil. It helps with my handwriting
The kindle has less glare. But i do like things are in color on the ipad
I've been thinking of getting a second hand iPad instead of a Kindle because a lot of what I read, be it research papers, books and other resources, are in pdf and e-readers generally don't offer very smooth pdf reading experiences. Have you tried using ur iPad for reading pdfs? If yes, I have so many questions... How is it? Any tips and tricks? Is it a a good idea? What are your general thoughts about it? I'd like to know if it's worth the investment. Thanks :)
I have read some PDF’s on it and had a good experience with it. I haven’t read a PDF on a e-readers so I can’t compare them. One trick is any article you read on the iPad can be turned into a PDF with a screenshot. I would suggest going into a store and looking at a PDF on an iPad to see if it’s what your looking for before purchasing one
@@ashleedigitalstudio Thanks for replying...this is very helpful. I'll also go into an apple store and give it a try... I'll probably buy second hand or refurbished though.
I have a iPad Air and pencil wish I had a mini maybe I can get one for Xmas! 🫶🏼
